I dunno what's embarrassing about that picture, it looks great! I think maybe the only weird thing is his oddly-sharp jaw. =p
It's colored masterfully, as always.
Eh xD

I have a thing for sharply defined jawlines.

And thanks!

Wow, that looks great! Damn it, I wish you would upload your so-called "sketches" more, I don't care how lame you think they are =p
These look great. It's very solid, and the shading is magnificent.
I haven't seen the 3-d animated Clone Wars thing, but I am somewhat familiar with Genndy Tartakovsky's 2003 2-d version before that. From what I watched, I found it boring, but then I'm not really a Star Wars fan. But fantastic drawing <3
Thank you!

Perhaps I will upload more sketches then (if my scanner allows me to).

I've seen the 2D cartoon of Star Wars and I really didn't like it. It's weird. I never used to like Star Wars before, but now I'm becoming a geek of it because of the 3D animation series.

Ha ha, I did think she was Rapunzel at first.
Looks really cool, and it's an interesting texture experiment. I'd be too afraid to experiment like that with such permanent media.
I tend to play with all kinds of chemicals, even dishwashing liquid.

That also does wonders with watercolours and inks which I could show one day.

This is just AMAZING. <33
I love all three you did, but this one I think is easily my favorite of the bunch. It looks absolutely fantastic.

It's always such a pleasure to see your stuff, I just wish you'd show it off more often. I'd like seeing it more =(

Awesome job as always, I always love seeing what you draw <333
Seeing your art is always extremely inspirational, and is a large factor in what makes me try to experiment slightly with the kinds of coloring and lighting I use (even though I suck at it so far). Seeing your art makes me feel like experimenting a bit more and trying to improve on what I don't do well (which is a lot). You're very inspirational <3
I'll definitely have a think about posting my scraps/sketches/doodles and whatnot a lot more than my polished work.

And thanks so much for the lovely comment <3 I want to give back inspiration to growing artists after being inspired by other amazing artist throughout the years. It's one of the best things I can think of for sharing art.

Sorry for the inactivity as of late. I've been busy with a lot of things as usual.

But I have been working on a particular piece on and off for quite some time.

Assassin Link

Done on Gimp 2.6 + Corel Painter 11 + Wacom tablet

Link as an assassin after Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed game, if the two companies ever combined, after my sketch and design of him a while ago (finally in colour).

And a special thanks to Tonch for all your amazing critiques!

Thanks Aurelia!

Although, I have to admit that I still need drastic improvements with anatomy, posture and perspective.

I forgot to mention earlier that I've made a Livestream account where I will now be drawing some of my artworks live, if anyone is curious.

When I start is random at times daily (you're lucky to catch me live). Pretty soon I will announce whenever I will draw live via dA, twitter (places linked in my sig) and so forth if you're curious on how I work through my pieces from scratch or finishing them.

I will not be saving all live captures, but I will keep some videos there that you can watch whenever you feel like it on demand.

Also, ads are common as soon as you open the link to watch me, but they will pass.

That's all. <3

Assassin Link!! Gorgeous. <3

I've stumbled across your artwork some time ago and have been stalking your art on dA ever since. (: I guess I just never commented.
But wow! You are such an amazing artist. I would be lucky if I could one day draw as great as you do.
How long does it take for you to complete one of your pieces?
Can't wait to see more art!

Thank you heaps! <3

It usually depends on what I draw, but I usually spend ages on a piece - mostly towards my digital pieces since they take more time to complete than my traditional pieces.

I'd say a few hours to a few days on average?

Oh if only there were a simple answer to this...

I dunno how I do it either. I just... draw and there it is before me.

WIP

Yeah... big surprises on who this guy is.

This picture is giving me a good excuse to play around with a new style, as well as testing traditional brushes on Corel Painter XI such as oil pastels, oil paints, arylics etc...

I'm trying to give my digital artworks a more traditional feel than the artificial digital look.

Aaahhh, that WIP is looking mighty fine, EL!
I feel like I'm instantly drawn to his jawline, though. It looks like you're going for that super angular Clone Wars style, but I think that really stylized harsh angle of his jaw kind of stands out against the more realistic shading and rendering you are rocking at.
Maybe if there was a tad more blending? I'd understand if you wanted to keep the integrity of the angular Clone Wars style, though... I think even a super quick swipe of the blur tool would work.

Bluh bluh I'm babbling now
I'm really excited to see how it turns out, you got a good thing going on there :3

And I totally know what you mean about making an effort to have digital pieces seem more "traditional". I think you're off to a good start in that respect!

Re: EL's New Art Thread

Your coloring has always amazed me. It brings a lot of life to your drawings, and your attention to detail is really spot on. It takes me forever to do anything remotely like that without a reference.

That said, and I hope this isn't taken the wrong way, I've kind of noticed that in many of the pieces posted here, the bodies and limbs of the figures you draw seem stiff. There isn't much bend in the torsos or arms (of course there are a few exceptions where the body does move with the flow of movement rather than stay rigid against it).

Oh it's fine! I see what you mean now and I'll revise it asap! I guess I am exaggerating it just a bit too much. xD

I always seem to have problems drawing jawlines since I like to define them a bit too much than what they should be realistically.

Thank you!

I'm glad you're telling me this now, because I always seem to get annoyed at how "stiff" some of the body postures I draw appear to be. I generally do not get many complaints about this, but I wish I did, because I can't really tell on what's wrong.

That being said, I think it's a problem popping up in my digital pieces since I would completely go over anatomy if it was drawn traditionally - but when it comes to digital art, I get so caught up with colour, light and texture that I tend to ignore the scaffolding of the artwork - the anatomy and perspective.

The Assassin Link artwork is a good example where I've ignored the posture and anatomy and payed more attention to the colour/light/texture which makes me .___. when I look back at it.

I need to work back on anatomy since I'm slightly falling out of it.

Thank you so much for the critique! <3

Re: EL's New Art Thread

Hey EL, you've got awesome stuff as always, but I think I can actually give you some tips on making your bodies less stiff. I've learned ways to improve them because people used to tell me I had the same problem.

My suggestion is to not start off with clothes. Draw the body first as if you were drawing a naked person and then put the clothes on afterwards. If you do this, it feels like you're literally dressing your character and it makes it look more natural and less stiff. The same technique works for armor. This how I've been doing it unless I know I can prevent stiffness even if I just go straight to the clothing.

You could even try starting off with the bare skeleton, which is a suggestion I've been given in the past as well. Skeletons creep me out though, so I kinda turned down that one. But that's just me. xP

Funny telling me this, because this is exactly what I told you in the past towards your artworks. So repeating the critiques that I specifically gave to you that you might have applied to your artworks are not going to help me.

And no, I don't start off with clothes. I never start off with clothes.

Sorry, I didn't know it was you who told me that. I honestly thought it had been SD or one of those brothers.

And you don't have to get an attitude with me. I was only trying to help. Guess I made the wrong choice trying to be nice then. Good day.

EDIT: And for your information, I did apply those critiques to my artwork. I'm not the way I was a long time ago, thank you.

Re: EL's New Art Thread

(alright I know I'm not a mod for CC anymore but let's stop whatever is going on before it gets any uglier.)

Your anatomy is worlds better than a vast majority of artists. I don't necessarily think you need to go back to square one and start from the basics- it's pretty clear to me that you do know the basics. I think for you, like you said, you get absorbed into the lighting and clothing, and lose yourself in that along the way.
Try mirroring your drawing every once in a while, it's an awesome way to double-check how proportional your painting is, and the glory of digital art is that it's usually pretty easy to fix.

So I say to just keep reminding yourself to double check your anatomy while you work. :3

I apologize, Calliope. I never meant to say nor imply that I thought EL knew next to nothing about anatomy. I sincerely apologize if that's what it looked like.

I don't really agree about my anatomy being worlds better than most artists out there, but thanks for the compliments regardless. <3

I should probably try drawing in greyscale first and see if that helps since I sometimes go straight to colour when I sketch something up. Or maybe scanning a sketch and painting over that since I seem to draw better traditionally.

Will do. :3

I think I might need a newer approach to dealing with this problem.

Re: EL's New Art Thread

I would say just draw a bunch of naked people. That way you force yourself to focus on the body rather than worrying about the clothes or the coloring. I know that's helped me a lot.

Probably the best way to deal with the stiffness of your anatomy would be to counter that with drawing some dancers. I know I look at A LOT of dancers' photos and whatnot, and a recent model of mine dances. There's a lot of bend and flexibility to be found there.

And yeah, drawing the clothes first is probably one of the worse things you can do if you're not working from a reference. However, that's just my opinion

Re: EL's New Art Thread

Copy pasta'd from dA (hope you don't mind!)

Ghirahim update: I've been absoplutely besotted with this/you for a long while since you posted it, and I've been trying my best to think of the most appropriate, deserved reply I could give. I've since established that I simply can't. It really is true that a picture can say more than words ever could!

But GURL you've outdone yourself!
More than anything, this looks like actual official art.
The colour, the design, the texture. Even the distinctive fading/bleached look of the official artwork is so beautifully recreated here.

I am so very deadly serious.
Make a portfolio of all your Zelda art as well as your own original work for variety, and send it to Nintendo. I am so very bloody serious. You really are perhaps the pinnacle an artist can be in many ways with illustration. I daresay Nintendo workers have already taken notice of you.
You owe it to yourself to try! You have such passion and love for videogames, especially Zelda, and have (and state) having had much fun doing your inspired pieces, that it'd be a shame (even foolish!) to not even approach the concept of applying to work for them in design!

Your colours look as amazing as ever, but one thing really looks especially gorgeous - the interplay of your colours!
For insance, the white, grey, black and purple for his hair really magnificently creates his hair and makes it feel fluid and volumous! And how you refused to leave his leotard white, but use the blue ambient light and work with very dark shadow. It comes off as amazing!

I'm particularly smitten with his cape and seeing it merge from the dark red and diamond scheme to the light blue and yellow, with those water-colour splotches.

I am in very much love with your artmindprowess!! <333

And with all I said in mind; This still is very distinctly and overwhelmingly a signature style of yours, and your own artistic direction and style shines through!
The composition, design of the character and the colouring. It's all very obviously you!

Flynn Rider Watercolour: Embarrasing??
SCRAP????

/anhero's

I (looking at your Pokeymanz waterclours) was so inpired I bought a cheap set to try. That ♥♥♥♥ is hard to work with!
So while I always had much respect for your skills, they've quadroupled seeing how hard traditional media like watercolours are to use!

This looks amazing. Again, the amazing "Marble surface" style looks incredible here, on his clothes and hair.
Love the contrastig red and blue, and how they play on the shading on his character! <3

Oshawatt: I think my eyes joygasm'd.

Those colours are so utterly amazing.
I am so taken with those rich, deep and decadent shades!

The play of light on top and dark water to make the monster look more vibrant is just a stunning thing.
The use of green, aqua purple and aqua - and the general pastel-rainbow sort of colour scheme, on an otherwise generic white-and-blue monster looks just...argh. Gorgeous.
You are so damn talented I don't even.

I as so bloody inspired I went out and bought some cheap watercolours of my own to try. That ♥♥♥♥ is hard. SO many dynamics andconventions to learn. I failed in incalculable amounts.
SO I have such a better understanding and appreciation of this.

I *SO* want to buy.

Fffffffff ~ you are so talented I want to die! D=

I wish I had some tips for you, EL, but... I really don't draw much apart from stick figures, so I can't say much in terms of critique, but I can say what I love. EVERYTHING. You are so so talented you really need to take this to the next level whenever you get the chance because you are going places. You really are. On a side note about the latest assassin pic, I am loving the lighting and the fact that you keep his face hidden, It really brings out a darkness in Zelda that I've always appreciated in the series. <3333 Mrew~
