My Burning Empire - Liar Within

Spoiler:

Hey there, I'll embed a few tracks everynow and then too share some of my art. Just to let you know, I play in a metal band, but that doesn't mean that I am penned into that box.

I have a very eclectic taste in music, Metal is just what I happen to be playing at the moment.

Not all the music I post will be high quality recordings like the first track. This was recorded and cost us alot of money, some of the newer songs that you hear will be in MIDI format.

---

This first song is titled Liar Within. I did not write the lyrics for the song but I did however write the music. With some obvious help from band mates.

If your not a metal fan, try and listen past my singer, yes we scream, but the music is very dynamic and is not heavy the whole way through. He also sings in some parts.

Sharpen you blades and let’s play the game
Let’s play the game
I’ve painted a target on my back, on my back just for you
JUST FOR YOU!!!
You were the wolf in sheep’s clothing
You were the wolf, the wolf in sheep’s clothing
Now how could I have missed the weight
YOU WERE THE WOLF
And how could I have missed the weight
Cause you, you were the wolf in sheep’s clothing
And that storm you bring, it comes from all the tall tales that you spin x2
THAT STORM YOU BRING COMES FROM ALL THE TALES SPIN x2 (chant)
All the tales that you spin and all the tales that you sing
And they fell down like, just like razors
The storm you bring
And they fell down like, just like razors
The storm you bring

I played bass, and did some backing vocals in this track. Enjoy (:

Five points to who ever can tell me the story of the lyrics lawl!

My Burning Empire - Consuming the Leech

Spoiler:

This one is called Consuming the Leech. Music mostly written by me.

Lyrics:
CONSUMING THE LEECH

Rising like the sun after the fall of man
Encapsulated by a sea of red
Beckoning the messenger
To watch the hands of time fall
Devouring the sickness
Consume the leech
And in these final hours of descending light
No poetic verse will prophecies
Our tragedy will be divine x2
Our eulogy will read that brought this all upon ourselves
There will be no violins for the victims
So selfishly preparing graves for the infants
Have we forgotten who we are?
Or do we welcome the holocaust?
In this final parody we leave you with a rotten corpse
A broken world far beyond repair
Existence is priceless
A selfish burden we lay in your hands
WE WELCOME YOU TO THE HOLOCAUST!!!

Again those lyrics are not mine, they're my singers.

My Burning Empire - And They Spoke Of The Apocalypse

Spoiler:

...And They Spoke Of The Apocalypse

As darkness falls and begins the confrontation
Of dark and light
There will be bloodshed
Under the blackened sky
The thousands meet upon the bridge it was set
The final battle x2
And so they march, the foot men and riders
And so begins the end
Welcome the violence
The thousands meet upon the bridge it was set
The final battle x2
And there spoken words were whispered
So begin the warfare
WARFARE!!!
Warfare, this is war x2
The blood lust reigns
An end to all ends x2
Bloodshed, endless
No one could hear their screams
Frozen in silence, whispers of calm x2
Dark and light divided
From the fall comes division
Each with watchful eyes, watchful eyes
The balance was decided
A kingdom with fall x2
The day watchers and the night watchers
And the ones that lust for blood
Frozen and silent x3

This is a fight for survival
There aint no time for the weak in this game

Struggling to make a mark with our name
So many have fallen before us
But our passion remains the same
This is not for the weak of heart
This is our remedy
This is our fight, this is our remedy
We stand strong hold our ground, hold our own x4
And through the up’ s and down’ s
We grow stronger
We hold our own x4

Spoiler:
My Burning Empire - Mirror Mirror

Mirror, mirror
Look at what I’ve become
MIRROR, MIRROR
I am one of the faithless, faithless ones x2
Mirror, mirror
This vowel that I have taken, that I swear upon
Is my curse, my cure, my excuse to sit up high upon this pedestal
To look down upon you
It’s my curse, my cure, my excuse to sit up high upon this pedestal
I have become the born again
Righteous man, purify
For my own urges
So I can start again x2
Inside my black book I recite the scripture that I learn
And inside my black book I separate myself from the world you live
I cleanse myself from all the things I’ve done wrong
And I tell myself and think that I have became a new person x2
Above you all, I am above you x2
ALL, I’ AM ABOVE YOU!!

The Rose Line - Stop Pretending

Spoiler:
This is why I haven't been able to post in any art threads or upload my own.

The Rose Line - Stop Pretending
Looking back was a huge mistake,
I will never be a part of your treachery.
Something's wrong with the air we breathe,
choking on this vile stench.

Nothing will ever be the same again
now the tables have turned upside down.

Is this devastation
just so hard to see?
Because it's never ending
Stop pretending.
Is this hope,
or just make believe?
It's never ending

Put your pride aside just for now,
we fight as one,
we fight as one.

Everything until now has made me what I am today,
with many mistakes behind me, but with very few regrets.
Just another stepping stone, just another chapter in my book,
I will not be silenced, I will not be forgotten.

Losing sight of endless possibilities,
never give up, never give in.
This struggle is now a part of us,
it remains till the very end.

Never give up,
never give in
or never be
.

Mudrifery

Spoiler:
Many thanks to Holly and by extension Tonch! Who I forgot aided me with this in the past.

The image was taken by the lovely miss Melpomene!

This song is a mathcore track I've written with various influences. At the moment my band has only played it once, there is a 25% chance it will make it to the album, but mostly likely not due to time restraints.

I really like it, it's by no means a finished product as much as it is just a blue print for what will be the heaviest track on our album, so please give all relevant critique and feedback as this is a work in progress and any changes you give have a huge chance of making it to my album's credits.

(Just as a note remember that any empty sounding parts usually get filled with vocals)

The Rose Line - Words

Spoiler:
The Rose Line - Words

New one for you guys~
It's no where near as heavy as our other tracks and is probably one of my favourite songs to play.

Lyrics:
These aren't the words for you
These are for me to forget
The last goodbye and three word lies

And everything between
Forgo the trust
Give into lust, these were all of your mistakes

Now when I look back
All that's left is hate
All that's left is hate

And when the seasons change
We stand and watch the tides
When we least expect it

A chill leaves us cold
When blame is all you have
You beg for sympathy

Your pathetic plee
Will not work on me
To blind to see

Were left in submission
Betrayed for the last time
You left me all but empty

Yet made me feel so hollow
You placed this guilt on me
You are heartless

Escape to where you belong
We learn from our mistakes and learn to love again
Hated

Dont let it control you
Dont let it destroy you
Dont let it consume you

Dont let it fill you with hatred

Were all in pieces
Were all in pieces

Shattered

Were all in pieces
Were all at peace

Lyrics aside, what I put into this song is a sense of hope in adversity, it's supposed to feel like you've come to the end of some struggle and you need to turn the other cheek or perhaps take the hard road and forgive as opposed to hating those who have wronged you.

Some fan (I have no idea who) uploaded it, that's why it's not my YT account and the start loops.

Re: AzraelBlack's Gallery of Trangressive Art

Very nice!
Really well done. It's not the kind of music I tend to listen to but I can appreciate it.
I really like the composition as a whole, having a variety of parts beyond the cookie-cutter "verse-chorus-riff-hook-blah-blah" hard rock/metal crap out there.

Production quality was really nice. It's cool to hear what the real vision is for the music, even if your other recordings aren't as polished.

Your drummer is pretty kick ass, too...

As for the vocals... I found myself a bit confused because there was screaming, growling, rapping/spoken word, yelling, and singing all in one song. I'd prefer it a bit more uniform.

However- I must say I really enjoyed the spoken-ish part ("And that storm you bring, etc..."). Great delivery. It felt like he was really saying those words and not just saying them to a beat.

All in all- not my favorite style of music, but I think it's really good for what it is.

I don't mind the screaming if it's not the only thing the vocalist does. At he same time, though- I don't really want screaming, growling, talking, and singing all in one song. I like it when a band can totally switch gears song to song. Like Opeth. I appreciate all of those previously mentioned vocal techniques when used as just that- techniques. Not as gimmicks or crutches

Re: AzraelBlack's Gallery of Trangressive Art

My b/f and I were talking about this the other night-
When bands or musicians are so good that they want showcase all their strengths in every song.

I tend to have a more powerful listening experience when the artist can switch gears and let me have a peek at the band from a slightly different window with each song.

Re: AzraelBlack's Gallery of Trangressive Art

Very nice, performed very well too.

My only real problem with it was the vocals. They're not badly performed, quite the opposite infact, but they switch up too much. The rapping and speaking and screaming and all that. Each is nice by itself but combined in one piece of music it can get a little out of hand. Or, I should say, the switches are just too sudden. If it could lead into each and the other a little smoother that would, in my opinion of course, sound a little better. Almost thinking of deftones to an extent.

The music was fantastic, can't really find anything bad about it.

Re: AzraelBlack's Gallery of Trangressive Art

Well hello mister good lookin' bass player! (I own a bass, and attempt to play it, but I'm not as good as you).

I'm not really the kind of lady who listens to Metal (well, anymore that is), but I'm gonna have to say the opposite of what others said thus far about the singing/lyrics/how they were sung. I liked the different styles you had going in the song. Well, every part except the screaming (but I don't like screaming in general), so if you made music like that with no screaming whatsoever, I'd paint your album gold and listen to it everyday! (Well, that's if you have one yet. xP)

I really liked it. As Margar said, about it being well produced. How'd you record it? A studio? A basement? Etc, etc, etc?

I agree with this part here. I'm pulled towards music that doesn't follow the normal uniform/trend of most music.. so even though I'm not a fan of Metal, I'd listen to this song a few times over.

Good stuff. I wanna see more.

Re: AzraelBlack's Gallery of Trangressive Art

Well I haven't gotten around to recording anything new, And I'll show you guys the other songs from our EP soon enough. But because my art also takes the form of performance I think it is necesarry to show you how I am onstage.

Performance on stage for metal is different to other musical performances imo for many reasons.

I treat the way I behave on stage the same way dancers do. This is how I dance to my music. To further express the emotions and idea/tell the story I am trying to tell, in the song which I am playing. Of course I have not studied dance, so my level of artistic expression in that regard is nullified to an amature. But I am still saying something with it.

This one is from our song ...And They Spoke Of The Apocalypse

^I think our fashion sense counts as another part of the representation of our music. Yes I am aware of how tight my girly red pants are, but it fits with who I am as a person and what I trying to say in our setlist. Of which the lyrics and song title are irrelevant.

This one is from our song Mirror Mirror

Yes I am half naked. The stage lights are really hot ok

Anyways I hope you guys understood what I was on about and don't think I was just having a fap over my awesomeness.

Re: AzraelBlack's Gallery of Trangressive Art

You've definately got the thrashing thing down heh. I have to ask, just out of curiosity have you ever smacked somebody with that massive headstock? Don't worry about the pants, a lot of performers who focus on their stage show do that or something similar. When my bro went on tour all of my sisters pants went mysteriously missing O.o

Music wise my opinion is still pretty much the same. The vocals sounded a little better than the first you posted. Not recording quality wise, just with the issues I stated in my other post. Pretty good all in all.

No, but on multiple occansions I've been told I've almost killed my singer/guitarist. Once I jumped and my guitarist ran and tackled me mid air. At that point I went flying and knocked my singer over.

I've also been kneed, and kicked in the face a couple of times. It's cool cos we play metalz.

Something different ^^

So earlier tonight I was inspired by an album I bought from Jose Gonzalez, I tried to learn some one of his songs, but after an hour or two I frustrated my self because of how intricate his guitar playing is and gave up. ):

So I decided to draw ^^

Liah convinced me to put some of them up so heres what I drew tonight.

Number one is a birdie! It's in a cherry blossom tree.

Second one I drew in purple pen. YES I OWN A PURPLE PEN :O

Look they're happy!

And for Liah these are the ones which I have painted in the past. First one is acryllic paint the second is water paint.
Syd Barret, I painted this the week he died.

This woman reminds me of Angelina Jolee :S

I've got more but I may as well save them for another time. I'm not really passionate about this stuff, hence their mediocreness, but its a good way to just relax. Music is too emotional sometimes.

Still I would love some critique from some of the more visually leaning members here.

Not really about music anymore is it...

Not just about music. Artists are allowed to have more than one medium heh.

I like the last two the most, especially the last one. I'm curious as to what you used on it. I love the way the "green" contrast to the black backing. Almost glow in the dark like, except much more profound.

Re: AzraelBlack's Gallery of Trangressive Art

Well I had a really bright green which I drew the outline with very bold. And then with a darker green I blended into the black from bold to really soft. I had to be careful because the black needed to be its strongest near the face to make it really pop. But if it were too bold the green would fade into black.

By the end I gave up on trying to get it uniform so that's why the black is really rough near the flowers (:

Re: AzraelBlack's Gallery of Trangressive Art

Saul! <3

So, I'm not the best musician and probably couldn't give you the best feedback in that regard D: other than I enjoyed your band's stuff. Wish I could be all fancy pants like Margar, but unfortunately I'm limited here ;-;

However! I can talk about your art <3 I love the raw look of your sketches, hun. It's one of the things I've always found appealing about Tonch's work--no fancy graphical effects in PS, just honest doodling. The pen sketch of the couple--that's a difficult pose to pull off. You did it pretty well. Good stuff. If I could give a bit of advice it would be to play with how much pressure you use on your pen/pencil while drawing/shading. For example, not all lineart needs to be a solid, straight line. Sometimes variation with thickness of lines can go a long way. The birdy picture is charming, too, btw <3

The paint stuff--dude, I dig! I'm more of an oil paint girl than acryllic because, to be honest, I've never been too good with acryllic. It tends to dry up too fast for me! Your painting style kinda abstract looking and I like that, particularly with the first of the two. The conept of the 2nd one is eye-catching.

Anyway, I understand how it's something that helps you relax. That's why I draw/paint/art too (: Thanks for posting that. I really enjoyed it.

Re: AzraelBlack's Gallery of Trangressive Art

Thanks Liah! <3

I get what you mean with the sketches. I tend to go overkill on sketches lol, I'll draw what I want but I don't know when to stop. So I end up bolding lots of lines and the such. I'll work on that next time I'm doodling. I have a sketch book full of those sorts of doodles, but unfortunately I end up scribbling words and poems all over then so they're not really presentable lol.

The advice was greatly appreciated!

Since art isn't your primary medium, I don't know how much of a critique you'd like though, sorry if I go overboard. x_x

The second doodle is a good concept, the pose is a bit difficult and you handled it pretty well. The foreshortening of the legs coming towards us is good, however I think the legs running horizontally through the piece are out of proportion (the thigh appears longer than it should, to me).

The first painting I really like. Reeeally like. I'm also glad to see someone else working with Acrylic. :> I also like the flowers in the second painting, they're done quite well. I'd love to see it more straight-on than angular though, just so I can see what I really looks like without any distortion.

I wouldn't say that makes them any less presentable as art. I like going through my friend's sketch 'diary', which has sketches from her day along with what errands she needs to run and misc. thoughts, and I simply think it's fascinating. Although, I could understand if you didn't want to post them all over the internet, just keep in mind that words can be a huge part of a piece as well, often even when they weren't initially intended to be there.

No such thing as overboard with constructive criticism with me! Thank you very much, indeed art isn't my primary medium, but any input is very much appreciated.

I will definitely keep this in mind next time.

Lol my sketch book is a puzzle. Well after such nice criticism, I may indeed post some more visual stuff again. Maybe even a page or two of my sketch book. It's honest and I'm not to secretive with artsy stuff lol.

But for now it's time for:

MOAR MUZICKZ!!
(make notsil proud you know?)

This is the other song of which I wrote the majority of the music. Again the lyrics are not mine. This one is called Consuming the Leech, and it's a 6 minute epic. Much more metal and less hardcore than the first track I posted. We usually open our set with this song.

This one has a "bass solo" although I hate calling it that because It's not improvising or show offy, it's simply a bass playing by its self to open up the texture of the song. The other parts are thick with layers so I added a "bass solo" to thin out the middle. It serves to make the part right after really burst with epicness, because of how many layers are going at once.

And dw this song has nothing to do with hugging leeches, or being taught how to dance by fire flies.
(screw you Owl City! )

Lyrics:
CONSUMING THE LEECH

Rising like the sun after the fall of man
Encapsulated by a sea of red
Beckoning the messenger
To watch the hands of time fall
Devouring the sickness
Consume the leech
And in these final hours of descending light
No poetic verse will prophecies
Our tragedy will be divine x2
Our eulogy will read that brought this all upon ourselves
There will be no violins for the victims
So selfishly preparing graves for the infants
Have we forgotten who we are?
Or do we welcome the holocaust?
In this final parody we leave you with a rotten corpse
A broken world far beyond repair
Existence is priceless
A selfish burden we lay in your hands
WE WELCOME YOU TO THE HOLOCAUST!!!

Again those lyrics are not mine, they're my singers.
