CILLY ART ATTACK TIME

I tried to make a witty title like the rest of you but I failed. Shoosh. ;-;

So its been ages since I had my last art thread, so I can't be bothered to update my older one. So you get another thread! (I really need to keep my threads regulary don't I?) This time we have not just computer drawn art, and my pictures aren't in the style they used to be! o:

First off, lets start with some photography!

Link the dog (Linked because of the size)

Yes, yes I named my dog Link, and no I have no idea what I was thinking when I did name him. This picture is for my last assignment for Photography. I am very happy with this picture because it takes so bloody long to get him to sit still, and this is one of the few times he did! I also edited the picture a bit making it a wee darker, and had to crop the picture on both sides. Compare!

Next is one of Notsil's character, Oscar!

Oscar is from a Role Playing site called Open Blue. You should check it out if you're interested in all that. Anyhow, I don't know much about this character, not even his name name, but I like what I know about him. He claims to be the King of Bandits, and he is the son of the King of Pirates, whos a meanie face. :<

Speaking of characters, I have some of my own. First up, Leaf, who has shown up three times before now:

I was going to draw her with Cobalt, another one of Notsil's characters but I got lazy, and then our crazy idea of reviving our Pokemon characters failed, so I was like meh. Leafy has changed in terms of clothes again, but this time I just made them more simpler. Nothing much to say about her, but this is the first time I started to really use the new eye style, because I got sick of the "anime" eyes I was using.

Speaking of new styles:

This is Micha Rowan, my character from Open Blue. I had a big picture all planned for her and everything but then the program crasheded halfway through, so I was stuck with a half picture. Annoyed because I wanted to finish my character profile with the picture, and I needed to draw other people, I can up with an idea of drawing a "mini picture". Basically its the same as my normal ones, just less proportional and a bit more simpler. The good thing is that you see all the details in this style, and its much quicker to draw. In fact I'm rather fond of this odd, skinny limbed short people approach. So much I use it in my next lot of pictures.

Blackthorn and Alder (Another biggish one)

Blackthorn and Alder, brother and sister of a magical family. Alder is a Dark Mage, while Blackthorn is a simple swordswoman (called: Myrmidon in the Fire Emblem games). For some reason Blackthorn has no ability to cast magic but she is loopy enough to fit into the rest of the family, yay! These two characters are for this wonderful little thing: http://www.zeldauniverse.net/forums/...-of-souls.html (It is very awesome, go and check it out)

Blackthorn is the first person to show up, as she is the only class avaliable out of the two so far. Though in some chapters to come Alder will eventually show up.

But oh look, one is actually handrawn! Yes, my friend scanned them for me. They're not the best pictures (Tonchiki pointed out some mistakes to me. I didn't even notice until he did D: ), but I'm fond of them and I was very happy to actually show off some of my handrawn pictures.

So this is all for now. Even though I don't really draw seriously, I would love tips, and critique if someone finds a little odd mistake that I've done. Any improvement is good, as even great artists (Like Eternal Legend ;D) improve every single day! Also thank you for viewing my thread. :3

I told you all about the photo already. So I'll only shortly say again that it's a really nice shot.

Quote:

I really like this picture. Good job on everything. Only the shoes could use some detail. I like his hair. His chin is very slightly missplaced though, but not as much that it would stand out too much.

I usually think simple designs work better, so I like the new design. But I don't like the new colour scheme much, it's too muddy in my opinion (not too muddy in general, but too muddy for leaf). Oh and I think the shoes could use some detail, same with "Oscar".
I'm glad you changed the eyes to a more realistic size compared to your former style.
There's also one thing that bothers me about her face, her chin is in an odd place, it should be directly under her nose, but it isn't. It needs to move to the right.
Lastly I still think she has an unhealth resemblance to L :p

I'll probably comment on the rest later.

I forgot to post in this thread because I was sick and I put my health before this thread like a selfish twat. Now I shall post in it so that Gold will stop throwing koalas at me.

Okay, let's get started, my kangaroo-riding artist!

Badum-tish.

In all seriousness, that's a great shot. Linky is adorable.

Quote:
Reminds me of that pic you did of me.

What program are you using for this? This is far too good to be MS Paint, even by your standards.

That hoopla aside, this is a really nice piece

Quote:
Leaf certainly has come a long way since you first showed her to me. Very nice.

The other two are nice as well, although the hands seem a bit... off. I don't know how to explain; they just look off. It's minor, but it's something.

Overall, though, they're good, and you have improved. Keep it up, and please stop throwing koalas at me now.

Thank you for the critique.

Yes, the chin problem, after you showed me what to do I've been practicing to make sure I do it properly from now on. Also with the boots, I just don't like putting much detail into them anymore. Mainly because I used to put too much detail into them and then everyone would focus on the boots more then the actual person. Baaadd idea. But I'll put more detail into them next time.

Haha, a muddy Leaf. What colours should I use to make it unmuddy?

Yeah I do have a habit of using ideas from older characters to make my new ones.

I draw the picture on Paint, but then I move it to Open Canvas to outline and colour in the pictures.

Thank you. :3

Yes Leaf has grown up with my drawings. Isn't it sweet? :')

The hands are like that because I'm lazy, very very lazy. I will put more effort into them next time though.

Thank you. :3

Re: CILLY ART ATTACK TIME

So like I said I got some pictures from my camera. I went hunting for batteries for a while until I found two eventually. Yay! Both of these pictures are going to be drawn over on the computer and coloured in eventually.

This girl is May another one of my characters. Shes one of those grumpy characters who come off as a jerk to strangers, even though shes generally a nice person. Shes also overdramatic and sarcastic, making her fine to write as.

I like this picture, its much better without all the darkness and stuffs. The only problem the belt looks a bit medieval for someone whos in a fairly modern setting. I'll just say shes not a good dresser either.

This is based on the movie Up. Its just a sketch so its not fantastic yet, and I need to finish the house and stuffs, but so far its good. It'll just look ten times better coloured in as parts will make more sense (the ground looks like the sky at this moment. xD)

I'll try to get more up at a later date, possibly ones that aren't sketched and actually coloured in. Maybe.

Sounds like my kind of character.

Yeah, to be perfectly honest, I thought she was a guy.
It's probably mostly due to how she's dressed. In anime, long hair doesn't always mean "female", so that's a bit tricky. Sometimes the androgyny can be annoying. I do love the style of the clothes though! Just... not on a girl. =p Doesn't seem to fit.

It's also a bit difficult to judge her age. Her face makes her look like a mature character, one that could be anywhere from 19 to her mid-20s. But since her body is so short, it's really hard to tell.
I think if you're going for a cartoonier style and less realistically-proportioned, either increase the leg lengths or shorten the torso. In this case it's not so good to have the legs and torso about the same length, because then you're not really sure what to make of it-- it kinda looks just disproportioned anime or something. It's vague and hard to make sense of.
(I'm not even sure if I'm making sense anymore.)

Wait wait, there's ground in that? XD
I actually think it'd look more effective if the background were totally sky. Maybe that's just me. Also, using my limited graphic design knowledge, it's generally not a good idea to have something smack-dab in the middle of the page, so it might be good for the house to be shifted to the left or right a bit. Also, I think it needs some perspective.

I hope you don't mind, but I used the pic for an example:

Do you see how the way you have it is kinda flat? When I first saw the picture, I kinda expected it to be going at this angle (although that's also because I thought the whole background was sky). In any case, I think it'd look a bit better if you didn't have it just be a complete profile, but gave it some perspective so it doesn't look flat.

Well, this is just what I came up with offhand.
But keep it up!

Re: CILLY ART ATTACK TIME

Oh look update!

But firstly: Thank you Ton for the critique. I did redraw May using your suggestions but the picture disappeared. Now that I have a scanner though, I will try to find it again! If not I will draw the picture again. =D

(I also need to finish the picture of Up too. )

Also thank you for the comment, Lady_Akira!

Now today, I only have one picture, and it looks a lot like my other ones. The big difference though is that this was a handrawn picture at first:

Its Vio! (Purple Link in other words). Basically this is how he looks like in my fanfic, Wind Waker: Four Swords Edition! (Horrible name I know but I've never been good at names) . The finish product looks way better compared to the picture I scanned onto the computer, though in my defense it was the first picture I could find.

The original picture can be found here: http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...nku/sc0000.jpg

Its not horrible, but its not good either, being a pen drawing and all.

Well what do you guys think? I know he looks a lot like the other pictures but in my defense I was just testing out how well scanned pictures end up looking like.

Mandatory post

Looks good. Though, Vio's left foot is a tad misshapen, when you compare it with the right. It's a bit fatter, and has a sort of bump near the ankle.

But that's all I have to say critique-wise, really. Even then it's not much.

^

Thanks for the critique. I shall fix that up. :>

Now heres some mostly new art, plus my contest entry:

I'm very happy with this picture. For people who hasn't guessed or I haven't told you already, its supposed to be a picture of me when I first played Pokemon Gold for the first time. Pokemon Gold was one of my first games I've ever played and one of the longest ones I've played too, so when the theme was named I had a good idea what to draw. Though I never expected to come second in the contest. xD

Oh wow it seems like everytime I update, I draw a picture of Leafy, don't I? The reason why I drew her was because I felt like it was a long time since I drew her. This picture isn't finished though I would love to find out what people think of her design so far. What I love to do is design stuffs, its always fun. :>

These two you've definitely haven't seen before. These two are Verity(left) and and Tracy(right), a lawyer, detective combo. They were mostly thought up because of Phoenix Wright, Potriot and other murder mystery stories. Lately I've been crazy about murder mystery stories, so its not surprise that I draw them. So far they accidently look too young, which I'm going to fix up, and Tracy's suit needs to be less generic for one thing. I like Verity's design though, it suits her I think, but I would love to see what others think. :>

This one got unbelievably improved from the initial sketch.
I'm still pretty shocked by how much better it looks after simply shifting things around. Well done! She also looks her age, as well.

Like I just told you (but will say again for no real reason), the only problem here is that they look far too young and short for their ages.
But other than that, I like it.
Tracey's suit is a little unclear, but I like Verity's getup a lot. Good job!
I can't think of anything to say I already haven't told you or that you already haven't fixed. =(
But the critique must go on!

Anyway, keep it up. I love seeing people's art, and yours is no exception.
The more the merrier, so keep drawing stuff! =D

Me thinks your art senses will be tingling again in a second. Thanks for always giving me critique for stuffs, and heres a picture you haven't critiqued before me putting it up for once, just so you can post a post without it sounding oddly familiar.

One of my older characters, who really needs a nother name. Haily, it sounds too close to my normal name.

Shes a cool character, a bit naive, but very strong at the same time. Shes one of the people who takes actions first think later. But this is not how shes like, rather if she looks odd or not. She used to be on a huge slant until I fixed that up, but theres definitely more problems, especially with the hands. Didn't think that through when I was drawing her.

Ha ha, actually, I think the first critique I have is regarding her name.
To be totally honest, I hate how it's spelled.
I'd think "Haley" or "Hailey" would look a lot better. But that's just me.

Anyhoo, on to things that actually matter.
Firstly, I like her overall look.
But as you already preempted, the hands do leave a bit to be desired.

I also noticed that her right arm (on our left)... the forearm is far too long. If you laid her arms down at the side, her elbow would be about 2/3 of the way up her arm. The arms also look a bit rubbery around the elbows, particularly the left arm (our right)-- I think inserting a slight overlapping line in there could fix some of that (I could draw you an example later if you want to know what I mean).

I also noticed her left foot (our right) doesn't really look like it's standing on anything due to how it's angled. The bottoms of the feet should be a bit flatter to make it look like there's a solid foundation under there.

I also notice a slight slant (which you already commented on, but I think it's still there a bit).

Also, I know this is but a sketch, but it's hard to tell what's going on with her hair-- is that thing jutting out behind her head hair, or something else? Also, I can't tell what she's holding. But again, sketches tend to be that way.

But once again, nicely done, and I enjoyed seeing some art!
Now post it more often!

I definetly like the overall look. I don't really know what she is doing with her left hand ...it looks like she is using an imaginary sock puppet.
Tonch already pointed out the problem that the lower part of her right arm is far too long (left arm from our point of view),remember that an underarm has basicly the sae length as a foot (sounds odd but it's true, although you are ofcourse entitled to more or less disregard anatomy when drawing comic style, make sure that the arms are the same lenght though). But I think I can make out what she's holding, it looks like some bag.
The way her feet are angled make it look like she's floating, maybe it would be good if you worked on your shoes a bit and how they are placed on the ground. When in doubt draw a shadow of the person on the ground, it helps to make them less floaty.:p

Re: CILLY ART ATTACK TIME

Thank you two for helping me out with this picture. (In fact thank you for helping me with a lot of my pictures XD)

Alrighty, I haven't gotten to do much on Haily since I've been busy with another picture, but I've cleaned up more of head and upper body: Linked because I say so.

I think I've gotten rid of all the slant, but I should have flip checked before uploading, and while the hands and the headband aren't perfect I tried to show what I was intending with them. Basically her left hand is pointing to her right, which is holding a bag.

I also coloured the hair and eyes just to figure out what colours the rest of the body will be. The actual band's colour will most likely change, I just coloured it differently to show the difference between it and the hair.

I did a bit with the feet, but not much, I shall fix them up totally next time.

Anyhow, new updates:

This is a friend's character called Occidana. See he wanted to draw a gift for me, and I felt like drawing something back myself, so we made an art trade. He drew characters of my fanfic, and I returned the favour.

This picture was fun, but I am glad to have finished now. Gift/requests are always harder than normal pictures for me, as I want to make the picture as perfect as I possibly can. That and I can't draw it randomly too, I have to follow a set of descriptions. Either way, I'm happy the way it turned out, and I'm going to show my friend tomorrow. :>

(Critique is still good for it, even if it is a gift present.)

And lastly:

This girl is called Brush, and lives in a place known for their incredibly lame puns (Hence the name). I was bored in computer class the other day I decided to draw a quick picture. I really like drawing simple styled pictures if they come out well, but as you can see at the start of the thread, even simple pictures can be a pain to draw. Though, finally I think I'm getting used to it. :>

It's fun, I like feeling useful (or at least trying), and I'm sure the same goes for Bitterlime.

Much clearer than the other sketch. Before the headband confused me because it blended in with the hair, but now, even if it's not the final color, it's at least much more obvious what's going on.
I also have some examples on how to handle the hands if you don't mind me drawing on your drawing (double-puns totally unintentional).

Firstly, the left hand is backwards-- the thumb is on the other side. A mistake I've made many times myself. As for the bag hand, try to picture holding something like that, and how your fingers would wrap around the outside of it. It gives it a bit more weight.

I like this picture. The orange in the background is a cool tone to use, and the character looks good, especially for what seemed like a difficult design to work with. And her shoes! They're not floating!
I can't find much that stands out as needing critique in this picture.
I know your friend will like it.
I know I do.

As if you haven't heard this enough from me, I really like your simple style you've been drawing some characters in. I like the light, slightly desaturated colors used here, too. It fits. And, once again, you're much improving your feet! The palette shield and the hand there are a bit off, but nothing much to worry about at this point. It looks good overall.

Pfft, all the cool kids are drawing hands the opposite way these days. ;D

Thanks, its funny how you don't even notice until someone points it out. To me, her hand just looked a bit funny but I couldn't figure it out for the life of me. Fun fact: I have the bag hand the wrong way around too. Oops.

And he did. It didn't stop me from worrying the heck out of it. I didn't want to get anything wrong. D:

You know one of these days, I'm just going to draw a floating character, just for the fun of it.

(The sunset is fun to draw, especially the red clouds. I love drawing clouds.)

Thank you. I'll fix that up another time. :>

Well now that the contest is over, I am able to post my own picture from that contest. It didn't get any votes but I was really happy to get some wonderful comments. Plus its sole reason is to make people go: "Awwww'.

Meet the Umbrella girl and the little kitten. When I drew this picture I had something else in mind, but I was very happy how it turned out. Especially the little kitten. The point of the picture is to show people even though the world seems gray and negative, there will be always someone to help you out.

Also, in case you're wondering, the Umbrella girl takes the kitten home after this picture as she couldn't leave it all by itself.

This is another sketch I did a couple of days after I finished the entry. I drew the girl in slightly different clothes, and changed the umbrella slightly. I have a funny feeling she had a big collection of umbrellas. The kitten didn't come so well in this picture but I'll fix that up.

You know now I could easily colour the both in, but I'm kind of used to them being in grey.

Lastly here is a quick picture I drew for the comparison found here.

This is Ziffie, one of my oldest characters. You know I'm surprised at how well it came out. Because it was a quick picture I expected it to be kind of crappy but it wasn't. Not that I'm complaining. ;D

Like always critique or just comments are welcome. :>
