Okay. So I've got an interview with a couple of TAFE institutions coming up soon ("Technical and Further Education", in case you were curious.), and they want me to bring in a folio of my work.

The thing is, I don't have a very good folio at the moment, so I was wanting to ask the people of ZU if there is anything they'd like me to draw or make for them. I can do various different things, which I'll provide examples of later in this post, and all you need to do is follow a simple guideline of how to request from me.

The Guidelines

Type: Which type of piece you want me to do.

Description: Just give a description of what you want. The more specific, the better.

Time Limit: Be reasonable, but don't give me too long (I'm a terrible procrastinator). The simpler the work, the quicker I can do it. I set a minimum time of two days from the request time though. I prefer a bit longer.

What I Can Do

Recolors: Such as Aquira (recolored from here), or Cadenza (recolored from here) I can do more than just people, of course.

Colorings: Such as Tera (colored from here), or this person (colored from this). Again, I can of course do more than just people.

Misc. colorings: I'm not sure how to describe it, but I'm talking about stuff like how I made this from this. Same deal as the above about people.

Signatures: Such as this Combee, this one I made for Lavvy la Who?, and this abstract one I never ended up using. I've learnt a lot since doing these though, so feel free to ask for something tricker. The only thing I can't do is good curved lines, thanks to my version of Photoshop having no pen tool.

Other stuff. I'm rather varied in what I can do, so even if what you want is not similar to anything I've shown as examples here, you can still ask. For example I did this piece here for Ciroton, and this ball for me.




If there's anything you're wanting to know, don't be afraid to ask. Also, I do intend to continue this request thread even after my TAFE interviews.

Think of a graveyard like the one in Ocarina of Time. Think of the shovel that Dampe uses during the gravedigging tour... except magical. Make the metal part golden or something? Just as long as the shovel stands out. Have the shovel leaning against a grave and some loose grave soil on the ground near it indicated somebody had buried/dug up something there. Make it night time, and stormy. The rest is up to you.

Hmm...do you think you could draw a Caribbean girl? Like, tropical looking and whatnot? No need to rush on it, whenever works for you.

I think so, but I'd like details please... and I NEED a time limit. You saw that thing I did for Ciroton? That took half a year thanks to him saying he didn't want to set a time limit. Even after he got impatient about it he didn't tell me when I should finish by. >_<

That's because I hate setting time limits because I myself am like that. x3 I'll keep that in mind if I ask you for anything again. =p

An Islander looking girl with a flower in her hair and tropical flower swirling around her. Bright, pastelly colors. I'm not exactly sure what details you need. Is that enough?

As for the time limit, how about...3 months?

I dislike time limits too, but really need them if I'm going to get anything done. :/

What medium would you like me to use? Normally I'd assume computer, but for something quite different to what I've done before I thought it'd be best if I asked.

Thanks. I should note though that my idea of "islander" is no where near the Caribbean (to me, islander = Pacific islander. Y'know, Polynesia n'stuff.)

Oh, yeah. I know. I'm not so familiar with all the technicalities of the English language, unfortunately. In my mind, Caribbean=Island so Caribbean person=Islander. xp

Ah. Don't worry about it. I'll draw something island-y, and if I can, I'll try to make it specifically Caribbean if I can help it.

(I consider Polynesia and such to be where islanders are almost certainly because this is the corner of the world I live in.)

Hey, I'm working on a BA character, and I'd like to enclose a picture. However, I'm not the best artist, but I still want to add in a sketch. If I provided you with a sketch, could you re-draw it, except better? Kinda like what you did with the "Misc. Colorings" thing?

I think I could do that.

Alright, I just need to get a pose locked down and draw the picture. Shouldn't be too hard, it'll probably get done within the week. Is it possible to, I dunno, "reserve" a spot in line here? If not, just keep me in mind.

Dun worry; if I decide to close the requests so that I'm not swamped, you'll still be able ask. What it seems like you want me to do doesn't sound that hard.

Alright, thanks. I think you'll be able to turn my mundane drawing into a beautiful representation of my character.

Well, kidding or not, I'm sure "presentable" will turn out to be awesome.

When you're ready, don't forget to follow the guidelines when requesting.

I would say if you're interviewing for some technical school or whatever they probably wnat to see figure drawings, landscapes, or drawings from life (still life), not anime/manga.

I applied to an art school when I was a teenager and my entire portfolio was anime/ Dragon Ball Z, and the art instructors just looked at it and pretty much tossed it out and dismissed me. I was pretty crushed.

You gotta do something different. every other person that's applying to that tech school will probably have anime as well. be that breath of fresh air that says, hey look at me, i don't draw anime!

So my request of you would be to get some models and have them pose for you. They don't have to be nudes if you can't get them to pose nude, but drawing from life is better than anime any day.

Time limit: up to you. you gotta have the motivation and desire to get models yourself, and do original art on your own.

oh, and create about 10-15 pieces of artwork, and maybe have ONE anime picture. don't have one or two life drawings and the rest be anime
