Anyway, I decided the heck with certain people's stupid comments about when I'd make a new art thread and make one anyway. I was originally going to stick to the critique thread, but it's pretty much dead now, so I really don't have a choice but to make a new one yet again.

And I assure you, this one will NOT be locked. I can make certain of it.

Now ANYWAY. Piece in progress:



This is a profile of Judo, one of my EH characters. However, he's much younger in this picture than he is in his profile. He's about 18, but looks 20ish. Judo just looks that way. Oh, and the lines behind his arm are going to be his cape. Btw, there's something interesting about this picture. Judo uses his sword in his right hand, but he's holding it in his left in this image. That's cause hey, nothing says he can't hold it in his left, right? XD

Something isn't right with his head though. I can tell, but I can't place it. Help? >_<

I really like the shading on this one, good job!

About his head...I think maybe you need to change his forehead so it's sloping back a little bit more up the top. I think at the moment it's too straight, so it gives the impression of making his head a tad too tall.

Judo's head appears too small in contrast to his arms and stuff. Basically what Asta said.
I know drawing hands is like the hardest thing ever. I struggle with it so much, but theres no real detail on Judo's sword hand. It kinda looks like hes got no fingers. :/ The sparkle on his sword is neat though!

This is cool but theres some rough spots on the hilt that could be smoothed out a bit. The etching design you did is quite nice!

That's cause the hand isn't done yet.

As for the head, I'm confused at what you're saying here. Asta said the head is too tall, not too small. :/

Well, I was working on his forehead like Asta said earlier. I'm going to do the armor next.

Oh and thanks about the sword. :] I want Ike to have a cool new sword before getting Ragnell again, after all. x3

I fixed it while finishing the picture. And speaking of finished pictures...



I got the great idea of adding some blood in there while working on it today. Now Judo looks like he's just finished a battle.

I tried fixing everything you guys said (and with fixing the forehead came changing the hair a bit too, btw), so it should look awesome now. :]

Hey! He looks pretty good! A little shading around the mouth could have added to the effect but thats just me.

Oh? Like where around the mouth? Upper lip? Bottom lip?

Another small thing that could be fixed is the part where the sword is supposed to be shining. It look more as if something is wrapped around the sword or as if it may be part of its design instead of it giving the impression as a shine. Try completely losing the line between the glossy part and the part where you shaded or just lightly pencil those lines in. It will look more realistic.

His head looks a bit small to me, and the hair looks a wee bit unnatural. Other than that it's good! Surely if he'd been in a battle his hair would be more messed up? It just looks very combed at the moment, which kinda ruins the mood you're trying to create. o:

The head may look small, but that's because a portion of Judo's body is closer to you than his head is.

As for the sword, that's an easy fix. :]

Frozen: Well, if you look at what wounds Judo has, he probably wasn't in a very big battle. I'd only mess his hair up a little if he'd been in a tougher situation, like with more than one enemy going after him at once.

But the image is just good? I thought it came out amazing compared to most of the other stuff I've done, but that's just me. xP

Damn, Ranil, I'm impressed. the shading is definitely much better than you're earlier stuff, and actually gives a sort of third dimension to the character.

I've almost finished with the recent suggestions, but I can't seem to understand exactly where to add a bit of shading to the bottom lip. >_<

Try adding the shading in the space between the top of the chin and underneath the bottom lip (called the mentalis). Also shading beneath the nose and between the eyelid and the eyebrow could make it seem more dramatic.

I agree that his hair looks a bit off. Even if it's just a skirmish he's been in, there's still obviously been some battling involved and unless his fighting style comes down to him standing in one place and waving his sword around, there should be movement. Thus, his hair should be a bit more tussled. A bit of life in the hair would really make that picture pop, I think.

Doesn't it "pop" already? :/

And yeah, I guess you're right. But I'll only have more smudgies if I try to fix the hair anymore, since the lines in it are so dark...
