FanFic: Fire in the Shadows
Okay, I don't write long chapters, so bear with me here.
Here is a description of the main character: Name: Odessa Age: 17 Looks: Long dark hair, deep green eyes, she's not tall, but not short. She wears a long black skirt that fades into the same green as her eyes as it gets lower. She wears a black button-up shirt. She wears a silver chain around her neck with an emerald pendant. Personality: She keeps to herself alot, but when you really know her she can be outgoing. Odessa tends to wander into the forest often. She likes to write, draw, and hang around the castle. She doesn't really have any goron friends, but lingers around the Zora domain every once in a while. Location: Her and her father Bill live in the marketplace in the back alley. Their house is very nice, and well kept. Weapons: A long slender silver sword with a green handle. She knows a little magic that is used along with her sword. Other Information: She plays a small flute that is about 10 inches long. Other Characters Desdemona~Long red hair, almost black eyes, wheres a long black and red dress with robes. Carries a staff with an orb on the top. Demia~The Goddess of the forest who is told to watch over it. Azura~Short red hair, vanished years ago. Vanya~Zora Princess, is a snob King Raine~King of Hyrule Prince Leon~Sone of King Raine (Age 18, dark hair and very light blue eyes) *Aleks, Amelia and Meg...shut up* haha Father/Bill~Odessa's father (age 38, brown eyes and dark hair, tall) ------------------------------- Odessa lay on her bed, trying to remember the days so long ago of no worries. Those were the times in which nothing went wrong, until one incident she will never be able to drive from her mind. It was cloudy outside in the Hyrule market as Odessa and Azura played in the puddles, waiting for it to start raining. Odessa and Azura were six years old and had always been the best of friends. Odessa's long black hair was wet and contrasted with her bright green eyes as she and Azura skipped and splashed from one puddle to the next in the empty market. "Odessie! Big puddle over there!" Azura’s short red hair spun around with her head as she twirled around and pointed to a giant puddle on the other side of the market with excitement. They both ran wildly to the huge puddle and made as much of a mess as they possibly could. Odessa smiled and laughed along with her friend as they continuously kicked their feet into the clear water. She looked around and spotted a mucky brown looking frog a little away from the puddle. Anxious to show her friend the critter, she ran over to it and scooped it up into her tiny hands. She turned to run back and show Azura the slippery frog, but no one was there. After many days of heartbreak and constant searching the towns people gave up on trying to find the little girl. Odessa became a very bleak child, and stayed away from many children because of the disappearance. She had been that way ever since, and after a while people soon gave up on finding the real Odessa, for a piece of her had left along with Azura. That's just a little background preview thingy...

Re: FanFic: Fire in the Shadows
Interesting... you started it up like it was a co-op, but I don't think that is your intention... right? Anyway, sounds interesting, but she has a sword and uses magic...? You should explain that in more detail and stuff, but anyway whenever you get the story up and running I've gotta read it and see... So lets see it! Hehe.

Re: FanFic: Fire in the Shadows
I don't want to give too much away... I just wanted a vague (Spelling?) outline on them, because you get more information during the actual story. Thank you for reading it though!
Chapter One Odessa sat up on her bed and looked out the window on the left side of her room that overlooked the back alley of the marketplace. The marketplace that had once been a place for enjoyment as a child was now a place of boredom. Odessa never had many friends, everyone just seemed to kind of, drift away from her as they got to know her. She guessed that it was mostly her fault, because she couldn't really relate on an emotional level with most people. Books, drawings, and scribbles of past stories she had tried to write were scattered all over her cherry wood desk on the other side of the room. The many stories that she had wanted to finish, but ended up disregarding them, due to lack of interest. She could never find a story in her mind compelling enough to complete. This fact left a burden with her to find that one plot line that would save her from her boredom. The drawings though, those she took pride in. Ever since she could remember art was always one of her ways to escape from everything going wrong. And she was very lucky that she was talented and took an interest in it, or she would be constantly trying to write. The things she drew most of the time were hands, and landscapes. Every once in a while she would resort to some new designs to draw and be creative with. The one thing that was scattered that she loved the most was her books. No effort involved to complete one. All Odessa had to do was open one and be taken by the wonderful enthralling stories the book held within its binding. Mostly she read adventure novels. The kind of books that you wish you were in, and could be one of the characters. The kind of books that made you want it to never end, so you could be transfixed in the foreign world it took place in. Those were the most wonderful books, and they were the ones Odessa loved to read best. She walked over to her desk and threw away a few of the crumpled papers that were scribbled on. Throwing away her work was the hardest part about beginning a story. When she couldn't write about it anymore all of her time and effort were thrown away into the trash with the paper. Odessa picked up the four books that lay there and put them in one of the well-crafted drawers of her desk. She always promised herself that she would come back and read them. She could never part from those, and the world they held within. Her drawings were placed carefully in the smallest drawer at the top, along with a few dust bunnies that she found inside the drawer. She took pride in what she had created onto those papers, yet no one had ever seen them. What was the point of pride if no one was able to see the work you were proud of? Odessa didn't know why she didn't show anyone, but she knew she would have to trust the person before showing them her work. Now that her desk was picked up she walked over to her heavy wooden door, switched off the light and shut the door behind her as she exited the mental sanctuary behind it. Odessa entered the cozy upstairs hallway. It was decorated with countless trinkets her father collected from the places he traveled to. Her father, Bill, was a sailor. Odessa didn’t really care much for the fact that he was a sailor, because he was always gone, which left her to tend to herself most of the time. When her father was home he was usually off to the Hyrule castle visiting the King, Raine. Odessa looked around the hall at the pictures of Prince Leon and King Raine. It was all too sad that Queen Syleene had gone missing ages ago. She had always made sure Leon was home when Azura and Odessa wanted someone to play with. Odessa walked down the tatty stairs and into the undersized kitchen. Some of Leon’s bows and arrows were lying around on the counters. She walked on past them, not noticing them, and opened the door that lead to the Hyrule marketplace. People rushed around trying to find what they were looking for. There was a long and broad stone sidewalk leading to an enormous drawbridge. Beyond the drawbridge there was a lovely moat. It wasn’t one of those murky, unpleasant ones. This moat was uncased with the same stone as the sidewalk, and the water was a crystal clear. This moat was more welcoming than it was forbidding. After the moat and draw bridge there was a huge grassy field, which had been named Hyrule Field. A forest outlined this field. Hyrule field also lead to many different places, like the Karakinos Village, Death Mountain, the Zora Domain, Gerardo Valley, the Lost Woods, and the Kokoris Forest. All of which held very different kinds of people, animals, and plants. On the other side of the market is a path leading to a gate with a guard. This path leads up to the castle, which has and additional moat. The market itself has many various stalls where people sell food and cloth. There are doors on the walls that enclose the market, which lead to stores. These stores usually sells things like bows, arrows, sling shots, deku nuts (These emit a flash that stun harmful animals), deku seeds (Hard seeds used as ammo for the sling shot), swords, shields, and much more. Some of these doors lead to skill houses, which test your skill with some weapons. Often you can receive rupees (The currency) as a prize for winning. These places were often popular gathering places for children. Off to the sides of the marketplace were the alleyways, which lead to loads of doorways. These doorways were mostly entrances to people’s homes, just like hers. This was Hyrule, and this was her home. ------------------------------------------------------- (Sorry for all the explination and mis-spellings... and typos and stuff... I submitted this to my english class, and the teacher knows nothing of Zelda) I got some of the spelling from some other people so don't blame all of it on me!

Re: FanFic: Fire in the Shadows
Not bad. But somewhere in there you said she switched the lights off... Switched? What time period is this? Also you switch from past tense to present tense and back, you gotta watch out for that...
I like the whole artistic feeling of it, and the main character's ideals of what art is about... thats cool |

Re: FanFic: Fire in the Shadows
Man, I hate it when I switch tenses. I was told on the other board about switching lights too... I forgot about it  Haha.
I'm trying to make these real chapter sizes. So... Continuation of Chapter One... Odessa looked around and sighed. Ah, what to do today? Maybe.. ah, I'll do what I always do. She walked through the market not noticing anything but her objective, which was that she was going to go to the castle.. once again to hang out with Leon. Vanya, the Zora princess was always the little prissy social butterfly around this place. She was always saying that Leon and Odessa were together.. which was starting to really piss Odessa off, but Odessa still took the walk to the castle all the time, even though she knew that it would some how be twisted into something else by that little priss, Vanya. She walked up the dirt path kicking a small rock without noticing that she was about to run into the first gate. "Hey Miss! Be careful Odessa.. you might get hurt." The guard, Kendle, chuckled as he put his staff in front of her before she hit her head on the metal bars that were being brought up now. "Thanks Kendle." Odessa looked up and smiled at him while looking up at the gray clouds that were starting to cover the sky. "Oh, dear.. you better hurry. Looks like a storm is headed our way eh, Miss?" He waved good-bye. She continued, walking a little faster as her skirt picked up a little dirt at the bottom. It started to sprinkle, and she didn't bother waving to all of the guards as she approuched the second gate that lead to the mote and drawbridge that surrounded the castle. Odessa thanked the guard that gave the signal to let down the bridge, and continued to walk to the door and knock a few times with the brass knocker placed in the middle of the double doors that stood about four times her height. She heard the echo of it bounce off the walls as a short stubby, balding man opened the doors and moved to the side to let her in. She nodded as she walked passed him on the plush red carpet that lead up the main staircase in the middle of the giant hall, sitting on a magnificant shining white marble floor. She made her way up the stairs and turned to the left down the long hall. The hall was a rather wide one, and was dimly lit, except for at the end where they was a rather large window where light filled the end of the hallway, somewhat lighting up the end where she stood. Odessa made her way to Leon's room and raised her hand to knock, but he opened the door before she could. "I knew it!" he smiled "I'm so good at that.." He opened the door wider and Odessa stepped in.

Re: FanFic: Fire in the Shadows
And continued again... (Continuation 3)
Odessa laughed. "I hate it when you do that!" her voice seemed to boom inside of his room because of the fact that his ceiling is so high up. The billowing scartlet drapes that were usually pulled back to let light shine through were now blocking the veiw of the coutyard. He seemed to notice that she was looking at the window. "Yeah, the sun just went away.. it's pouring outside. I suspect a pretty bad rainstorm." he fell onto his bed. Odessa's eyes floated around the room. He had cleaned it, which was a great surprise. His bows and arrows were all in their places hanging on the wall in a bronze setting, and across the room on the other white wall was a gigantic tapastry that had always been there. "You know he's not ever going to come back..." she said without taking her eyes from it. "I know, but it's in my interest to notice our heros of the past, Odessa." It was a tapastry of Link, with the glimmering triforce in the backroud. Everyone always remembered that magical tale of how Link saved Hyrule. She had never seen him, but she had always heard such wonderful things about him from the older folk in town. There were things like the tapestry all over the castle, in remembrance of that epic tale. Odessa looked around at the paintings of the six goddesses. Demia (Goddess of forest), Demora (Goddess of spirit), Demana (Goddess of Fire), Devira (Goddess of water), Dekara (Goddess of light), and Desdemona (Goddess of Shadow). There remained only three now though. Devira, Demana, and Demora all had disappeared a long time ago. The reason is still unknown why. Dekara, Demia, and Desdemona all have to control two elements now. Dekara now held the responsibility for Light and Spirit, Demia now held control over Forest and Water, and Desdemona had Shadow and Fire. They all kept in balance fairly well. Leon frightened her by suddenly speaking. "Like you haven't seen my walls enough? They aren't really that interesting... Want to journy to Death Mountain? My father wants me to go collect something from one of the Gorons." he stood up. "Sure.. why not. Do you know what it is?" Odessa opened the door and they both walked out and down the hall, which was sounding of pounding thunder, and lit with jagged light from lightning. She sighed. "We have to go out in the rain?" Leon laughed. "Yes, we do.. It will not hurt you Odessa." "Fine fine. You never answered me, do you know what it is you are picking up?" They went down the stairs. "No actually... Father never told me what it was that he wanted me to get." he shrugged and nodded to the man at the door. "So, your father told you to get something.. and you don't even know what it is?" Odessa's clothes and hair was slowly getting wet from the pouring rain. "Great.. now we're both going to be soaking wet.." "Oh deal with it Odessa." Leon said as they approuched the entrance to Death Mountain. (Sorry it's so short.. I have writer's block)

Re: FanFic: Fire in the Shadows
Wow it's going well! I had my doubts before but the atmosphere is shaping up! Actually I'm excited about this one... It reminds me of "The Wife's Complant" for some reason... and if it's half as good as that story we're in for a good read! But you know? I can't help getting over the idea that the protagonist lives in a castle all by herself... which is not true, but I think that feeling comes from the beginning where she is so disconnected. Anyway I like it and the feelings are really well done, writer's block or not.

Re: FanFic: Fire in the Shadows
Odessa stopped. "Well, looks like someone has a harsh mood." she mocked Leon with a smile, expecting one back from him... but he didn't take it as a joke. Odessa got the point and they both continued the walk in an uncomfortable silence while the rain was still pounding down upon them.
The entered the strange atmosphere of Goron City moments afterward. The usual bright and chipper attitudes of the Gorons had vanished, and were replaced by a paranoid and watchful aura (sp?). Odessa looked to Leon and saw that he had noticed it also. The walked passed a few Gorons, and recieved some weird reactions. One of them seemed to scurry away as they walked by, and another was humming an oddly familiar tune. Odessa leaned in to whisper something to Leon. "Do find anything.. uh.. peculiar about them today?" Her voice was barely audible. "Yes, I do. What's wrong with them...? They're awful, jumpy." Leon whispered as they approuched a door on they're left. Leon knocked on the door and a small window opened with a Goron looking through at them. A soft clicking noise sounded and they both stepped back as the Goron opened the door. His voice was very low as he spoke, "Are you here to bring an item to King Raine?" "Yes, I am... may I ask what it is?" Odessa thought it was quite bold for Leon to ask on the fact that they were all so protective. "No, you may not. And such questions will diminish my trust in you to deliver this." The Goron stepped outside his door holding a medium sized brown cloth bag. "This is go to directly to the King. You will not look into this bag, or damage it. Am I understood?" "Yes, I will bring it straight to my father." Leon nodded, as the Goron handed him the bag. "Now be off, and be quick with it." He ordered as he retreated back and shut his door with the clicking sound to confirm that he locked it. Odessa looked at the bag with surges of curiousity running through her. "I must know what is in that bag." Odessa's eyes sparkled as she stared at the bag. Leon laughed a little as they left Goron City and were, once again, being soaked with rain. So sorry! I've been SUPER busy lately.

Re: FanFic: Fire in the Shadows
They walked the rest of the way home in silence. Not the kind of silence that usually grips an awkward moment, but a peaceful silence as the tapping of the rain sounded like tiny beating drums in their heads. They were completely drenched from head to toe as they both stepped into the main hall of the castle, greeted by a humor filled smile from the butler. His smile faded though, as he saw the bag. He was even bold enough as to ask, "Excuse me sir, Prince Leon, but should I be as curious to ask what you have there in that bag of yours?"
"I am sorry, but I am not one to tell you. Even I don't know what is in it. I'm sure that it must be important though. I must hurry." Leon and Odessa began walking again, not noticing the trail of speckled rain water they left behind them. The went passed the right side of the stairs and to the large wooden double doors. Leon opened them and they both slid inside without a noise. King Raine was sitting in a rather elaborate chair next to a fireplace writing something with a frazzled look about his face. "Father, I have brought you what the Goron has sent me with." Leon's voice was small and fragile around his father. His arm was outstreached with the bag in his hand. "Ah. Thank you Leon." He snatched the bag and set it in his lap as he put the papers onto a wooden table with wonderful carved designs. "Would you please leave the room and lock the door, son? Thank you." He watched both of them as they exited the room and closed the door with arched brows. The put their ears against the door simotaneously. They heard Raine pound something and the door opened and he pushed passed both of them without noticing. "That scoundrel! Theif! I'll kill him for this!" King Raine's face was a bright red and his black hair all in a tassle. His usually comforting dark blue eyes were full of rage, and his breath was in short rapid whisps. "Father?! What's wrong?" Leon took a few cautious steps toward King Raine. "This is what's wrong!" Raine held out a note written in scarlet letters. At the bottom it read 'I'm back'.
