The Tale of the Phoenix and the Fire Serpent- A Myth of Hyrule
Alright, this was something I wrote which will be used for Project Mudora, which I am currently writing for. I've taken on the job of writing Myths, and I managed to complete this short tale last night. I had a great time writing it, and I feel it's one of the best things I've ever written, so I've decided to make it's own thread. Towards the end you migth realize why I like it so much
The Tale of the Phoenix and the Fire Serpent Nearly fifty years before the first Hero and Princess were born; there was a terrible entity that attacked the kingdom. It was a thing of amazing power, such that no human defense could halt it. This thing was not evil, nor was it even a Hylian, Goron, Zora, Kokiri, Sheikah, or Gerudo. It was instead a beast, one of great beauty, but frightening power. It was; the Phoenix… One peaceful day, a town named Iruka celebrated its tenth birthday. It sat below the mountains, protected by the towers of stone and rock, and gave home to many men, women and children. It was a quite place, but full of life and very idyllic. On the night that all the townspeople celebrated the anniversary of the beginning of them home, large fireworks were set off into the dark sky of night. Rockets shot up into the firmament, and then exploded in mid air to create dazzling displays of color and light. All the people watched in amazement and awe of them, happy as can be from the wonderful entertainment. But as the detonations grew bigger and louder, and as the lights grew brighter, they stretched up to the mountain tops, so that all living things could hear and see them. The brief rays of light shot into caves, and the blasts’ sounds drifted into them. Unfortunately, one cave became disturbed too much, as well as the creature inside it. The Bird of Legend, the Phoenix, was awakened by the noise, and ire stirred in its heart. The flying firebird emerged from its den, and flew down to the village… With one breath of fire from its maw, it set at least one quarter the village aflame, and wrecked more of it as it performed fly-byes; its terrible talons ripping through the buildings like paper. The townspeople went into panic as their homes were destroyed, as they watched their friends and loved ones die before their eyes. In a matter of only some five minutes, the entire village was either wrecked or burning, and only twenty of the residents made it out alive. That night, word had gotten to the King of Hyrule, and without even a simple grumble as he got out from his bed, the leader went to work. He organized rescue squads to go and get the survivors to safety, and more volunteers to help put out the flames on the town so that the fire wouldn’t spread. In the process he managed together an entire attack force of the top Hyrulean Defenses, and sent them out to intercept the Phoenix and kill it. By next morning, the Phoenix attacked another town, breathing its destructive fire breath and tearing it apart edifice by edifice with beak, wing and talon. As all the people of the area evacuated the small municipality, the Hylian Troops moved in, unleashed a wave of arrows from both crossbows and longbows at it. Nearly all struck it, but not one managed to piece the fiery-golden feathered body of the Phoenix, and the legendary bird attacked back. It killed nearly all the soldiers, and then chased after the ones that retreated from the town. The creature almost ended their lives too, but at the last moment the artillery opened fire, stopped the monster dead in its tracks. The ballistas fired arrows the size of houses at it, the cannons shot cannonballs as big as babies at it, and the catapults flung ignited boulders at it. The Phoenix was pelted by all weapons, and it screeched from the great attack as its body was pummeled by shot after shot. Covering itself up with its own wing, it struck back with more sprays of fire, incinerating some of the artillery, and precluding most of the attack. Panicking, the troops began to make a hasty retreat, and the just as the Phoenix prepared to burn them away, another beast appeared, letting out a cry of fury. The mighty Fire Serpent Volvagia flew down before the Phoenix, incensed by that the bird had invaded and attacked his territory. As the dragon hovered in the air, its crimson hide burning as the serpentine body flailed all around, he glared fiercely at the Phoenix, so much that only after a few seconds the firebird took off to the mountains. Volvagia followed him in pursuit, the two soon coming to the Death Mountain Crater where the Phoenix stopped its escape, and turned to face Volvagia. After staring each other down, it was the fire Serpent who struck first, searing the Phoenix’s chest with a beam of fire. The Phoenix retaliated with its own spray of flames, burning the skin of the dragon. The two charged, and soon became caught in a vicious, brutal brawl. The Phoenix attacked at Volvagia’s face with its deadly beak, pecking at his iron mask until the dragon ripped its wing open with his acute claws. The behemoths became locked in a struggle, fighting tooth and claw as the Phoenix battled with its talons and wings as the Fire Serpent struck back with his claws and whip-like body. They both scorched each others’ bodies with more fire, the Phoenix blasting Volvagia with sprays of flame, while the Fire Serpent incinerated the firebird with beams of blaze. After a grand melee, Volvagia scored a mighty hit as his fire beam hit the Phoenix in the face, giving it a fatal wound and ending its attacking. The legendary bird flew from the dragon, bloodied and its body singed and burned, into a large mound of rock that was like another crater. Volvagia blasted the top of it with a fire beam, causing it to explode and become covered up to the inch with stone and rock. The Fire Serpent roared in a dominant tone, letting the land know that he was the strongest beast in the kingdom… And after that battle, the volcano would always erupt constantly, due to the Phoenix’s desperate attempts to escape its prison inside the domain of magma. Whether it ever would is not know to man, but if it does, it is believed it will go back to its old den, and lay dormant for eternity, in fear it might one day have to again face the fury of the Mighty Fire Serpent; Volvagia. |

I liked your legend overall, but some of the background details seemed...redundant? Quote:

Re: The Tale of the Phoenix and the Fire Serpent- A Myth of Hyrule
If this is the quality of stuff in the Mudora Project thread, I'll have to start reading it. That's a great fic.
I have a souple of problems with it, though. the first is grammatical - you seem to use semi-colons where you should have commas. The second is using Volvagia. I presume the first princess and hero were the ones in Ocarina (that's the current theory, isn't it?). In OoT, it is clearly said that Volvagia has been dead for centuries. And I don't think Ganondorf was alive then either, so he couldn't of revived it. Just thought I should point that out.

Dead huh? Okay that was a mistake on my part. But remember, this is really just a Myth, not a true historical account. But I will make sure to edit it somehow, either remove the name "Volvagia" or place it futher back in history where it would be thought to take place. |
