Ghost City (School work)

Written by Josh Harbourne
8W

As the sun lowered beyond the horizon, another night began in Ghost City. The most notorious City in the world, in every alleyway there will be some form of dead corpse, lying there, murdered or dead due to an illness so horrible people cannot speak of it. In Ghost City, there are more murders than there are people.

Jack Logan is my name, and I work for the Police Department here, of course I am a Vigilante, no one in these parts can be trusted. You will need to carry your revolver at all times, if you don’t you will
Blend in nicely with the red bricks of the morgue.

But thy hath not told you of Ghost City’s true meaning, it is haunted. Ghosts will roam the streets, capture your minds, and they will gradually make you go insane. But I had struggled against my voices for many years, and I had conquered them.

I’ve always been alone and un trustworthy when my parents were killed, It was a frightful night, the Owl’s were tooting, the dogs were barking, and they were just stabbed, taken into a dark corner, my mother was ravaged, and my father stabbed in the abdomen. That’s when I ran away, alone in the dark, to fight for myself.

Tonight, like any other night, I would have to grab my Revolver from my desk, and head out onto the streets. I was no farther than the front door of the Police Station, when I saw a dead man on the floor, his clothes were ripped and torn, and he smelt drunk, extremely drunk. When I went down to feel his pulse, his yellow eyes tore open and his hands were embraced around my neck, I could see a bright light grow upon me, when I felt a large splatter across my face.

“Better watch out, that man almost got ya killed.” Someone said from above me, I looked up and It appeared to be a Policeman from the station, he walked back inside, and I looked towards the man, his head had an abnormal hole in it. He had been shot by that Policeman; the crimson blood had covered my face like a mask. I gradually stood up, and kicked the corpse aside.

I walked now very wary of what was going on around me, my hand gripped tight around my Revolver, looking in every direction, every angle, and every square inch of the streets. I looked upwards, to my right, to my left, and down in front of me. A very crackly voice sprung into my head.
“Scream, fall, Scream, fall, Scream, fall, Scream.” The voice repeated those two words over and over again.

I wrestled the voice out of my mind, and tripped over a large object, as I just kept my balance; I turned the object over, and immediately knew what it was. A young female, probably on the game, had been stabbed. It was the number one crime in Ghost City, and a crime that would get worse every day. I left the corpse, and pushed her on her side.

As I looked around again with my eyes, I saw a man run straight through the streets. Obviously he had something to hide, I chased him through an alleyway he had ran through, and he was attempting to climb up a building, I took my Revolver out and shot him, I don’t know where, but I definitely did, the screams of pain were a sign. He fell down only a metre or so. And landed on the concrete floor, his head was gashed open though, and another villain killed. He seemed to be holding a knife, it was drenched in blood, I shot the corpse one more time, and I walked off back into the streets.

As I reached the streets, I felt light cover me, I felt happy again, the sun had risen, and it was now dawn, T’was time to return to the station to report the murders of that night.

“Mornin Logan.” Said a friend of mine, he was called Edward Higgenbottle
“Morning Edward, how was your night?” I asked him.
“It was awful; everyone on my street was murdered by this cloaked menace. He ran off towards Sir Brighton street, never caught him up.” He said to me in a disappointed manner.
“I think I caught someone along that description.” I replied back.
“Well, where is he then?!” Edward asked me, he seemed rather pleased.
“Dead, I left him on Sir Brighton Street, he killed a teenage girl.” I said back to him.
“The boss is gonna ave your head if you keep on doing this! You kill more than you arrest, honestly Jack!” Edward replied back to me, he seemed to care about me loosing my job.
As I proceeded further, people looked at me in grimace, I was wondering why they were looking at me with such foul looks. I wiped my face and realised I was still blood covered. As I walked into the registry office someone came out at the same time. They bumped into me, and I shouted out.
“Excuse me you frigging idiot!” I shouted out angrily.
He did not reply to me, only hunched his back and walked out quicker. I walked inside the registry office and sat down.
“How many last night Logan?” The chief asked me.
“One, a teenage girl.” I replied back immediately.
“Logan, you’re a strange person, but I have one more special case for you. There have been many reports of someone called Jackal and Hyde, I don’t know what he’s up to, apparently he lives in the Bell Tower, you must find him and question him, because he knows the group whom are committing these crimes. You must stop them killing, me MUST regain peace.” The chief had spoken unto me.

That night I had travelled to the Bell Tower, I was armoured to the teeth. As I cautiously climbed up the tower, I heard cackles of laughter coming from higher above me. As I reached for my Revolver a large beast of a man dropped down in front of me, and he said these words.

“Why hello there, you’d make a wholesome meal!” Jackal said to me.
“Not If you have a hole in your skull.” I replied back sharply.
He swung his arm at me, and I took a sudden duck, I rose back up only to be thrown up the tower. I landed on an awkward position and screamed in agony, as he jumped up, I felt the light wrap around me and carry me in, he put his foot on my chest, and I felt my last breath coming along, I struggled to find my revolver, when I did, I shot him in the chest, and his foot came off my chest, he fell over and he shrunk back to a normal size.

I coughed violently, he had crushed a rib, I could feel It, I wasn’t able to get up, but I was able to crawl to the side of him, I loaded my gun and pointed it towards his forehead.

“Who’s the gang who’s taken control over the city?!” I asked violently.
“One for questions, (cough), (cough) aren’t you.” He replied back, I knew he was dying slowly. I needed him to answer questions.
“I need to know, or you’ll be reaching the gates of St Peter quicker than anticipated.” I said to him, my voice extremely edgy and nervous.
“You will get what you want, you don’t want know child.” Jackal replied.
“No, I seriously do.” I said back to him.
“Your friends, the Police.” Jackal said to me.
“What, no that’s impossible!” I exclaimed angrily,
“Believe what you want, they sent you he-(cough), so I could kill you, without you on the streets, their deeds can be fulfilled.” The Jackal replied his voice had become quieter with every word.
I saw his eyes turn bright, then they closed slowly, he had died. But I had all the information I had needed. I lay on the floor, in agony. I felt like I’d been thrown out of a building, the pain was hellish. I lay there, but eventually I fell asleep.

As I woke up, the agony seemed to have died down, and I noticed flies were gathering around Jackal’s body, as I attempted to stand up, I fell back down. I couldn’t get up, a nuisance it was. I ignored the pain and stood up, limping and almost falling over every time, I gradually got better though, my aim now was to find out about the Polices involvement in this.

In due time I had crossed the city without no trouble, I do suppose it was day time though. But as I wandered the streets, the body count was enormous, I found my self crying at the site of a young couple, what acts had been performed on them I do not know.

When I arrived at the Police station, I was cautious, very cautious. I took out my Revolver and held it close to my chest, as I slowly went up the steps, I slammed the door open, I expected to be shot at, but I wasn’t, the place was deserted. I turned around and walked through the streets, they were not striking at night any more, and it was in the daytime. As I looked for another gun, I saw a group of them walk through the widest street, I had found another gun, which had lay on the floor, I picked it up slowly, and watched the men walk by. As I suspected they were blood drenched, I took out one of my guns, and fired. It caused panic within them; I remained hidden as they rain away.

As they had run away, it was safe to come out of the shadows, and immediately within the streets, I was confronted by Edward, whom pointed a gun at me.

“Hello young friend, you were a fool to not come with us.” Edward told me in a wicked manner.
“I was never offered.” I said back to Edward.
“I’m sorry about that, my ol friend, but now seemin as you’re an enemy, you’re dead.” Edward said to me.
Before he pointed the trigger at me, I had shot him. I was aware that his death wouldn’t weigh to much on my conscience. This may sound like the typical story, but it was that quickly I turned from hate into love, love into hate for my friend. That day I had also wiped out the Chief, it was only the other thugs and other Policemen in the town had to be worried about. I searched in every house, every room. I was alone; everyone had been killed, except the killers.

I also realised I was one of them, the man I had killed that night of the girls death, was someone trying to revive her, I had murdered him. I had done a sin, to the Christ and might Lord. I was ashamed for it.

It was Edward and so many others who attacked and killed all those girls that night, he had killed them. I did not find out the others part in this case. The only thing was that city is now called the City of Angels, I returned to a country called Britain, from London a whole army had wiped out Ghost City and taken it over, and they used it for what they pleased. All I know now that the city is the most peaceful city in the world.

So many questions were left unanswered, the whole scenario had seemed rushed to me, so unreal, like a nightmare. I had realised it was going on behind my back for countless years, I was only the vigilante who kept crime down, only by one percent, they kept it rising by ninety nine percent.

There was one thing I had done though, I had carried the girl’s body, it was in the morgue, and I cremated her. She was the one I had felt for, because only when I examined her body closer, she was pregnant. And scum like Edward, and the Chief had done this deed.

There was almost one other factor I realised, on the night of my parents’ death; I suddenly knew that I was meant to be killed. I was the only one who could stop the crime, and they had been chasing me ever since. They hired me because they thought they could keep it from me. They were wrong.

Within the space of two or three days I had stopped all of the crime there, I had help it become redeemed, a new place so to speak.
Now all the souls can rest in peace.

But me, I can’t rest until I reach the gates of St Peter, but it wont be long.
Not long at all.

Wow. This is excellent, I enjoyed reading it for sure. For your age that is amazing, I've seen way older people fail to write as good as this.

Re: Ghost City (School work)

Hmm, that was very well done OKO.
I enjoyed reading it. ^_^

I suppose I could say there were a few spelling/grammatical errors, but I won't mention any unless you want me to.

Regardless of all that, it was still a great story, highly original too.
A very good read.
Keep up the awesome work.
