My Take on Ocarina of Time
Anyway, I've decided that, since I'm in a state of originality devprivation, that I should once again attempt my story version of Ocarina of Time. It's much better than my last try, I must say. So give it a good read!
(right now I have the intro, prologue, and first slice of chapter one done) - - - Volume 1: The Door of Time Time. It captivates those who try to pursue the answers to its mysteries, and baffles those who try to outfox it. ‘Time is of the essence’, ‘time flies’, ‘a race against time’; all of these phrases are proof of our utmost respect towards this elusive energy that encompasses our very being. Perhaps it is this deep respect for the passage of time that drives us to seek the secrets behind its unfathomable mystery. We often find time passing too slowly, or sometimes too quickly. We organize our schedules based on time, assume responsibilities based on age, and yet still we have not even skimmed the surface. We often wish we could turn back the clock, and sometimes even imagine we can. The human mind is fascinated with those things it cannot comprehend, and time is one of those riddles that cannot be solved. But perhaps we are not as far from the answers as we think. After all, we are able to look back, creating a sort of doorway in our imaginations that takes us deep into the past. Our hopes and dreams can take us far into the distant future, and this endeavor to achieve our goals shapes the roads we travel on the journey of life. And let’s not forget the present. Every action, every thought, every movement affects our lives, whether we notice it or not. If we strive to acknowledge this fact we may come to a greater understanding of ourselves and the world around us. So you see, we’re not all that far from the answers we seek. We just have to have the insight to reach out and grab them. Everything we could ever want to know is out there to be learned. All it takes to acquire this knowledge is the genuine desire to obtain it. The search for the secrets of time may yet prove to lead to an even greater discovery – the discovery of self. ‘Minihi resulvu travs extil traji’ ‘A little determination goes a long way.’-ancient Hylian proverb - - - Prologue – The Legend of the Three Goddesses Long ago, before the dawn of time, this world was a great chaos; a void of matter with no semblance or form. Three great goddesses descended upon this chaos, and shaped from it the world of Hyrule. Din, the goddess of power, took this chaos and formed from it the very earth. She built mountains and valleys; canyons and deserts, making sure that each of her creations was suitable for the purpose of its existence. When she had finished, she passed the task on to her sister. Nayru, the goddess of wisdom, came upon the earth that Din had created and gave it law and order. She poured out water unto the earth, filling the canyons with rivers and the craters with lakes, and made sure everything was prepared for the third sister. Farore, the goddess of courage, took this planet that her companions had shaped and breathed life into it. These life forms would follow the law and order established by Nayru, and live in peace and harmony. With this final deed, the world of Hyrule was created. When these tasks were done, the three immortals departed from the earth, leaving behind a single relic to signify their accomplishment. This sacred triangle was known as the Triforce. Containing within it the virtues of Power, Wisdom, and Courage, the Triforce was meant to represent the reality that these are the forces that dominate existence. With this sacred triangle they also left a message to all humanity: “Whomever touches the True Force shall have his deepest desires fulfilled, for only the one who can unite the sacred triangles is worthy of this benefaction.” The Triforce came to rest upon the place where the immortals left the earth, and there was built the Temple of Time to honor their deeds. Within the Temple dwells the three triangles, and there they will remain, until fate wills that they be taken. When that day comes, the true question will not be who obtains the True Force, but what he chooses to do with the power that is contained within. It is said that if one with a pure heart touches the Triforce, and his wishes are not selfish or fallacious, the world will become a paradise. But it is also said that is one with an evil heart touches the Triforce, and his wishes are full of malice and discontent, that the world will be covered in darkness. Perhaps it is out of fear of this legend that few have sought after the sacred relic. But one thing is certain. When the Doors of Time are finally opened, it will mark the beginning of a new age for Hyrule, be it for better or for worse. What does the future hold? Only time can tell. - - - Chapter I – The Boy Without a Fairy Thunder rang across the plain, echoing like a bad memory in a mind plagued with troubles. It had certainly been raining for a long time, as one could easily tell by the deepening tracks left in the mud by caravans as they hustled to drier ground. And it would continue to rain, for the raindrops, the tears of the sky, still brimmed from the clouds. The clouds themselves were strangely dark, as if they were being engulfed by their own shadows. It was not able to be determined whether it was night or day, since the blackened heavens were covered in a gloom uncharacteristic to both. Most of the critters who could normally be found running playfully across these fields had wandered to the safety of their burrows at the first signs of the storm. Those who dared to linger as the rain began to pour were frightened away al the same by the shadows which followed. Not a soul remained in the open to endure the bitterness of the storm. Save one. A young boy clad in green stood in front of the white city walls; watching, waiting. For what he was watching even he did not know. Unaffected by the torrents gushing down upon him he stood, undeterred, still watching, still waiting. Yet could not tell what he was waiting for. Hovering over his head was a bright blue fairy. His companion seemed to dislike this situation as much as he. Yet, she too seemed to be waiting as intently as he. The drawbridge began to lower, gears creaking as they struggled to turn against the heavy rain. As it clanged into place, horse hooves could be heard galloping from within, nearing the drawbridge and preparing to cross. It was a white horse carrying two riders. One was a tall, muscular woman, covered in a gray coat, shielding the second passenger from the rain. There were two daggers strapped to her belt, gleaming in the dimly lit air, and she wore a suit or armor hidden by her cloak. A scar was drawn across her cheek, and her eyes flashed with hell-bent determination to get her quarry to safety. She was obviously a warrior, the boy decided, though he had never seen a real warrior before. The second rider was a young girl who looked to be about the boy’s age. She shared the same blonde hair and azure eyes, and the same solemn expression. But hidden in those eyes was a radiance that just seemed so warming, so inviting, so angelic. This was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen, the boy had to admit. She looked like one of those princesses from the stories he’d heard when he was very young. Could she possibly be a princess? Something about her seemed strangely familiar, so he followed the horse as it galloped into the distance, hoping to get a closer look, but the white horse and its riders departed as quickly as they’d come. After watching the horse disappear into the distance, he started for the drawbridge, but what he saw when he turned around stopped him dead in his tracks. Another horse and rider stood at the foot of the bridge. A dark man wearing black armor and a leather garb sat atop what had to be the most vile stallion in existence. With glowing red eyes and a crimson mane, the horse in itself was intimidating. But it was nothing compared to its rider. With hair that was as red as the sun, this man’s very presence seemed to burn. His skin was quite tan, but somehow still seemed pale, as if all the life had been sucked out of him. He had fiery-orange eyes, burning with rage, yet there was a certain emptiness about them that sent chills down the boy’s spine. A hunting knife was strapped to his belt, and a large sword hung from his back. There was no mistaking it. This man was, indeed, a warrior. A vile one, perhaps, but a warrior nonetheless. He turned over to acknowledge the little boy staring in fright up at him; knees shaking if not from fear then from the chilling rain that covered the land. And he smirked his evil smirk and raised his hand as if to dismiss the boy as worthless. But the boy did not move, nor did the fairy that hovered over his head. The man began to laugh, and the boy felt himself slipping into blackness, as if this cackling were driving him out of his very mind. A dark ball of energy erupted from the warrior’s hand, but before it could strike the boy, he blacked out… - - - Link snapped awake, drenched with sweat, still shaking from the chills. What a nightmare. It had seemed so real that he could almost feel the patter of the rain across his cheeks. Where had he been? He certainly hadn’t been anywhere in the forest, at least nowhere he’d ever seen. There were no castles in the Lost Woods. But it wasn’t the location that worried him as much as the warrior that had attacked him. Who was this man clad in black armor? And what was he up to at the castle? It certainly wasn’t his scene. Something about that man seemed very familiar. Something he couldn’t quite put his finger on. Kind of like that girl who had ridden by on the horse. He didn’t know what it was, but when she passed by, he had felt as if he was watching his best friend gallop off into the distance. Who was she? He still remembered the face clearly in his head. Those big blue eyes and their determined stare; those pearl-white teeth clenching from the violent rocking of the galloping horse. It was a difficult sight to forget. Not that he intended to. He fell back onto his pillow, ignoring the questions that continued to drift through his mind. “Just a bad dream…” he whispered to himself. “Probably nothing…” But his own reassurance didn’t rid him of that nagging feeling that there was more significance behind this vision than he could comprehend. And he still couldn’t get that girl’s face out of his head. Rolling over to try and drift back to sleep, he found himself staring out his open window at the sunrise. It was almost morning, and the sun was beginning to creep up over the tops of the trees. Still exhausted, Link groaned and tried once more to fall asleep. “I’m in for a bad day, I can tell already…” he mumbled. And he passed back into sleep, not knowing that he would be awakened in a few minutes by an uninvited guest; unaware that he would embark on the greatest journey of all time. But that was the last thing on his mind. - - - - Will continue later. And hopefully I find my creative spark so I can work on my other fics. I can't afford to lose another one.
