Guardian of the Gate (An Original Fiction)

The sky was a clear, crystal blue, a few clouds swam through the endless blue ocean, thinning as they did before breaking up into smaller clouds. It was a day that Shuya was looking forward to; tomorrow was his big day. His wedding. He sat in his darkened office in a police station tucked away in the big city of Tokyo; the Shibuya district.

Shuya was a detective. A line of work that, like he always said to his partner "Is not a job, but a curse," in the 10 years of working as a detective, he had seen many a number of gruesome sights, but a recent serial killing was one of the worst he had ever investigated. One girl dead, her heart removed cleanly from her chest.

Shuya sighed as he looked over the crime scene photos and evidence once again, the killer was a smart one, he had left no trace of being there at all. He sighed and put down the folder of photos, before standing up and yawning, he'd been working all the night before, and needed to get some rest before the big day.

"Shuya!" came a voice, as another man burst into the room.
"What's up, Nakata?" Shuya replied casually; ignoring the obvious distress in his partner's voice.
"There's been a second killing, we need to go to the scene to check it out."

Shuya immeadiately put on a look of hesitation, Nakata could see this. Shuya walked over to Nakata slowly, looked him in the eye, and then pat him on the shoulder.

"Well? Let's go already..."

Nakata was one mean driver; he broke all the traffic laws under the sky as he raced towards the scene; an abandoned warehouse.

"Why would a teenage girl be at a warehouse like this on her own?" Shuya looked out the mini-pato window and rolled his eyes; there was a horrid stench coming from the warehouse.
"No normal warehouse; this is a waste disposal site." Nakata laughed coyly.
"Oh, great, that's just dandy isn't it?"

Shuya opened the pato door abruptly and stepped out of the car, masking his nose and mouth with a handkercheif he pulled from his jacket pocket.

Alot of investigators were already on the scene, looking for evidence that might suggest who the killer was, and their intention.

"Think it might be the same idiot as the last one?" Shuya asked Nakata as they walked through the dimly lit warehouse.
"Maybe, let's just see the body fir--" Nakata begain, but cut himself off as both the men stared in awe.

Before them was a giant pit, for waste disposal, above the pit was a wire, clipped to both of the walls and running over the pit. Hanging on the wire, above the center of the pit, was a young girl. She wore a brilliant white dress, and her hair caressed her pale, smooth face. The whole scene, which was lighted by the sun coming in from a crack in the roof, was rather serene. One thing broke the sereneness of it all; her chest was cut open cleany. Blood, not fresh, but at least a day old, was stained on her dress.

Within a second, the wire snapped clean, and the body of the beautiful girl plummeted through the air; hitting the concrete floor of the pit with a loud thud.

"...No doubt about it, Shuya... No doubt about it..."

Re: Guardian of the Gate (An Original Fiction)

Thanks for the kind comment, Tuskasa! I'm still thinking about which direction I should take this in, so there might be a few twists and turns before I get it all sorted out (I'm kind of writing this impromptu, just for ZU lol).

Chapter 2

Shuya walked towards the mini-pato with Nakata; he was still masking his face from the stench. Nakata looked up into the sky and turned to Shuya.

"Look; the sky's clouded over." Nakata motioned towards the sky.

Indeed, the once crystal blue sky was now darker, grey storm clouds moving violently around.

-------------

Shuya was back in the office again, he had a lamp lighting the room dimly, but outside the storm they had witnessed forming was now sending rain crashing to the ground. Shuya was looking over the new crime scene photos, the girl was supposedly only 17; her name was Mitsuko. He had the old case file next to him, to compare the two cases. Infact; both were very similar.

Night soon fell, and before he knew it, Shuya had fallen asleep.

Shuya's eyes sprung open as he felt a hand on his shoulder. He quickly lept to his feet with fright, before noticing it was only Nakata.

"Did I scare ya, Shuya?" Nakata joked as Shuya composed himself again.
"Of course not..."
"Well I know something that will scare you..."
"And what's that, Nakata?"
"You're late for your wedding."
"OH CRAP!"

Shuya grabbed the case files he'd been studying and quickly put them back in the cabinent, before rushing to his locker to grab his tuxedo.

"Shuya!" Nakata called, "I'll give you a lift!"

Nakata got into a mini-pato car and Shuya soon followed, brushing his hair down and making sure he was presentable. Nakata revved up the engine and sped at remarkable speed from the car park. Within no time, they had arrived at the chapel where the wedding was being held.

Shuya grabbed his tuxedo and practically leapt out the car, and sprinted down the pathway towards the entrance. He didn't take note of it at the time, but walking towards the chapel was a strange looking woman; she wore completely black clothes and carried a black suitcase by her side.

The wedding hadn't started yet; he was lucky. All the invited guests were seated, but his wife; Miyuki, was still getting prepared. Shuya walked down the corridor of the chapel, where the doors to the dressing rooms were, he had just gotten ready and was wearing a fine black tuxedo, complete with a red rose in the pocket. He finally found the door to Miyuki's room, and opened it quietly.

"Miyuki..." he whispered through the door, peeking inside.
"Shuya~you shouldn't be here!" Miyuki laughed, as she turned around on her seat.

Even though Shuya had seen her face every day; her beauty shocked him to the core. She smiled with a closed mouth, a look of complete innocence on her face; she looked happy.

"Oh, excuse me, I couldn't wait to see you, that's all!" Shuya smiled back, Miyuki blushed slightly and laughed.
"You look handsome, Shuya. See you in 10 minutes."
"10 minutes..." Shuya repeated, as he closed the door.

10 minutes surely passed, and he now stood at the alter with the priest. The hall was fantastic, amazing pictures were painted onto the roof, intricate wooden carvings plastered the walls, and the sun shined through the stain glass windows, making the scene even more amazing.

Shuya was nervous; he was marrying the girl of his dreams, someone he truly couldn't live a day without, someone he needed in his life. The double doors at the entrance to the chapel opened, and the sun beamed through them, glaring Shuya's vision, but he did see his beautiful bride amongst the light.

The guests turned to face her, she was as beautiful as ever... but something was not right...

Re: Guardian of the Gate (An Original Fiction)

Chapter 3

Shuya stood at the alter. Alone. Thoughts replayed in his head, his world was being turned upside down in a storm of confusion.

"See you in 10 minutes."

The guests were standing to their feet, gasping and crying in shock. Indeed, Miyuki was a beautiful bride, but as she slowly made her way down the aisle towards her groom, she left behind her a trail of crimson red blood. She limped slowly, her breathing almost completely halted, and as she stood right before Shuya, her eyes met his. Her eyes appeared not to him as the beautiful eyes he once knew; they were cold, lifeless, and painful eyes.

Her limp arms tried to grab Shuya, but failed, as her body fell to the floor, and Shuya's followed. The room appeared to be spinning around to him, his mind was a mess, and the only thing he could think to do was to embrace his bride, tears flowed freely from his eyes.

Nakata rushed over to Shuya's side, but to Shuya, his partner seemed to be in another dimension. This had to be a dream, it had to be. He screamed at the top of his lungs, but it was muffled by his tears.

---------

The area around her was dark, cold and damp. There seemed to be no sound at all, and a faint mist was in the air, making the ground invisible to her eye.

"I am Itsuko." came a woman's voice, but the owner was nowehere to be seen. There was a brilliant flash, and with it came light in the form of three torches burning, they led in a pathway fasion towards a large gate, with a stone steps leading up to it. Before the gate stood a tall woman, she wore nothing but a black outfit, it seemed to be warrior's clothing, and on her side was strapped a sword.

"Welcome to the gate of Malice. This is where victims of murder, rape, or any form of abuse come when they die. You have been murdered."

Miyuki stepped backwards, almost tripping over. She was no longer wearing her wedding gown, but a grey kimono. "What is this!? Where am I!? Shuya... Shuya..."

Itsuko stepped down from the area before the wooden gate, which towered above them both. "There are 3 exits out of here. Accept death, and make your way to the Heaven to await reincarnation... Refuse to accept your death, and roam Earth as a lost spirit... and the last..."

"...Curse one living person, and bring about their painful death. Murder however, is a Sin, and you will be yourself cursed with the fate of going to the Hells below, where eternal damnation awaits you."

Miyuki shook with fear, if she could feel anything right now, she was sure she would feel sick. How did this happen... she had to know.

"How did I die!? Who killed me!?"
