November Writing Contest - Results

Well, the November Writing Contest results are finally here (I was away). Here I'll talk about which posts I considered the top two. If you aren't in the top two and are wondering about what I thought of it, PM but, but I don't have enough time right now to describe in detail what I thought of every entry. :3 I based my marking on three things, here they are:

Entertainment: Was it entertaining to read/creative/interesting etc.?

Grammar/Spelling:Does it follow the rules of the English language? It's a writing contest, after all.

Length: Without this, a two sentence entry could beat a 3 page one, which would obviously be unfair. In the original rules, the suggestion was 1000-10000 words so I'll keep that in mind when I mark.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First Place: Chocolate!, by Holly.
Entertainment: 10/10
Holly took an already interesting story and then added her own creative ideas to it, such as a virtual reality section of ZU, which I found very interesting. She also presented it very well.

Grammar/Spelling: 9/10
It was easy to read and apart from a couple of minor capitalization errors I didn't see much of a problem.

Length: 10/10
Holly's entry was 5x the length of its nearest competitor, at almost 3000 words. It's obvious that she put a lot of time and effort into writing this.

Runner Up: Snap, by Kittie Kara.
Entertainment: 8/10
An entertaining story told in an entertaining way. On the downside, it didn't bring new and creative aspects to the story like Holly's virtual world, but a good story in its own right.

Grammar/Spelling: 8/10
There weren't any major issues, but a few of the sentences were awkward ad there were some grammatical errors.

Length: 8/10
At about 600 words, it wasn't at the recommended 1000 post level, but it was still the second longest entry, so not too many marks were taken off.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As for many of the others, a major issue was the length - there were many who didn't even scrape 200 words, let alone 1000. I feel that if some of you had spent more time fleshing out your narratives to a length of more than a single paragraph, you could have been major competitors.

.....O:

*Squeals* I won! : D

(Though it feels odd winning the contest you organize x3)

and Congrats to Kara coming second. <3

Thank you Cody for that wonderful judging you did. I might use that style for another writing contest in the future and I am curious; how would you mark an Art one I wonder? o:

Cody should make Virtual ZU exist. :3

And I really like that idea at the moment, maybe I should Virtualfy another ZU story?

I agree with this. Some stories had a lot of potential. :3

Anyhow, time for professional Midori:

The next contest will be up soon, and I am pretty sure I promised both Writing and Art contests, I just need to pick what the idea will be (I am deciding it will be more general this month so people can have freedom) and then the next contest we will start to use the suggestions that were given before. (Maybe make a poll in the results?) <3

Also because its ten days into the month already for reasons that I couldnt control (My internet crashed for a few days and Cody was away) do you guys want a two month contest for the next one?

I didn't read Holly's. It was too long. Sorry.

Right, so this was because Forte says he doesn't like himself. I want him to like himself a bit more.

Re: November Writing Contest - Results

I had feeling Holly would win, and I thought Kara would at least come in second.

Congrats to both!
