September Art Contest!~Results
Well here it is! The results for this- erm I mean last months Art Contest! xD
There were alot of good pictures in this contest and a lot of pictures in general (much more then I expected.) But of course there is only three spots. Lets start with the two third positions: Here is IGNIS's (or whatever his name is now) pretty, yet slow loading picture: midnawithheadofzant1.png - Image - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting (Linked because of spoliers) tying with FierceDeity, who ended up in the contest, with his wonderful movie: YouTube - Zelda: Das Krieg Now moving onto to second place: It is Liah and her lovely picture of Midna: Wade in Water, Midna -spoiler- by ~twilinympho on deviantART (Also linked because of spoilers) And lastly First place! This goes to Bitterlime and his picture: ![]() Congrats on the winners and thank you for participating everyone! But wait this is not over yet! I have a suggestion for everyone. I think that having just Art Contests every month will be hard to have, because people who participated here will most likely not join in next months one because of various reasons. So I think instead of that we can have something like: Art Contest one month, then a Writing Contest and then possibly something else, like AMV/GMVs depending on popularity or we can stick the old formula, unless anyone else has a suggestion. If so please say what it is. Now talk! :3

Congrats, Bitterlime on a fantastic entry
<3As for the writing/art comps - has there been many requests to include a writing comp?

Re: September Art Contest!~Results
Wow, I put a lot of work and detail into mine and I didn't even place. Is it because it was traditional media or the fact that I drew supporting characters?
Explanation and critique would be nice to know.

Re: September Art Contest!~Results
jwalraven, you're annoyed with the tie arent you? These things happen. There were three judges, only two of us had a third place and it for two different pictures.
It was bad organising on my part, I know but I have a full week of important tests coming up and because of studying I didn't have time to fix up properly. (I would add more but I know someone else has had a talk with you) There hasnt been much requests but I think it will make things easier on everyone. Thats why I want people opinions. :3

Re: September Art Contest!~Results
Yay!
I'm glad I placed. Congrats to FierceDeity, Liah, and Bitterlime for the excellent art entries . Anyway, I'm glad I could join and submit an entry on time-- it had been a while since I drew something or opened paint shop and photoshop, and I really enjoyed my time working on my entry for the contest. This actually inspires me to continue with my web-manga project which has been on hold for quite a while. As for the contest idea, I like Warp Star's idea (Change of names FTW ). Contests should rotate skills so that other people who are more associated with a certain kind of media can participate.BTW, do we get anything? (MOD for a day, anyone? ) |

Just a passing comment in the IRC but that was it. Otherwise, I would still like to hear a critiques from the judges on each of the entries, including yours, so I know how to improve for next time.

Re: September Art Contest!~Results
Well first of...YAY! X3
Second of congrats to Liah, Ignis (you will stay ignis for me : p) and Fiercedeity (the video is even more interesting for me since i can understand the lyrcis). i really liked your entries. :3 But i didn't expect less from you guys and gals. Third: Midori was actually nice enough to put this thing together and it was her first time doing so, and to be honest...what's so bad about a tie? :/ I think Midori did great for her first time organizing this. Forth: I really like your idea midori, I just hope we can find enough people that show interest for each artistic "section".

Look I can easily change that if you really annoyed with it. Quote:
I made a mistake. Everyone does. Now please stop going to places and complaining about it. Its not helping at all. Quote:
"[11:58:36] <jwalraven> Apparently, drawing something specifically for an art contest isn't enough to place anymore." Quote:
Edit edit: @Liah I guess it makes things easier for me. Because if no one liked my idea I was just going to add an extra writing contest to go along. Plus it gives the artists breaks. :3 Thank you people who like my ideas. <3

Jwalraven:
First of all, it is Midori's first time doing this sort of thing. You can't expect people to do things perfectly on their first try, so cut her some slack. Secondly, I believe that studying for important tests is more important than organizing an art contest on a Zelda forum. So please, stop complaining, because all you're doing is sounding butthurt. :/ Anyway, congratulations Limey, Liah, FierceDiety, and IGNIS!

You can be stressed but it seems like you just need to calm down a bit yourself. You could have made an announcement to say "hey, important test time at school, please be patient" and I at least would be patient to wait for the results longer. Quote:

Now as for the contests in the future: I agree with rotating the art themes. Having the focus on either drawn art, writing, and AMV/GMVs is a great idea.

Re: September Art Contest!~Results
I don't mind the idea so much, though I would like to know how you would acquire judges. Like, for all these different areas, I would think you would need different judges with the experience in those areas? Also, perhaps next time there could be a criteria on how you (and the other judges) will be judging the entries would be helpful.
Also, you state in your first post that those who entered this month for the art comp will probably not enter this month - I'm not sure what makes you think that? Have people said so?

Yeah I suppose so. If anyone wants to judge for the other contests this is time to yell out that you want to! :> And yeah criteria might be a good idea. If I can I might be able to get some from this month's as well. I just need to talk to the other two judges about this. :3 Quote:
I mean I wouldn't want to continously join an art contest over again. I would find it dull. Though I guess other people wouldn't think the same way. Didn't think it through, sorry. ;-; (Also jwalraven: I would reply to you but you have seem to have left. D: If you are still here I will reply!)

^Sorry to repeat my question, but: Do we get anything for placing?
MOD for a day? Signature size extension, perhaps? I know: How about showing the entries right on the main ZU page so that a lot of people can see them? It may encourage outsiders to join the art community and participate in future contests. ![]() |

![]() Well I was thinking that I could try and make a banner/get someone to make me a banner for the winners to put in their sigs, but that sounds like a pretty good idea. :> I shall bug the staff siters about this. Specially Cody. Or you could always put in your resume: Won an Art Contest on a forum. Woot!

Re: September Art Contest!~Results
I proposed once that the winner of the current art contest could get a free request by the winner of the last contest. It would be a kind of give and take thing, since with the price of the current contest, there comes the joy of presenting somone else in the next contest. :3

Oh, darn-- I just applied for a job and didn't mention that I placed on the ZU art contest ![]() But what about posting the pictures on the main ZU page? I really think it's a great idea ![]() |

I am actually tempted to write in a resume: A moderater of a popular forum. :> You are asking the wrong person here. If I could I would proudly post all the pictures in the contest on it, but I am not a site staff member, just a forum staff member. That is when all of bug the staff site. xD Quote:
Keep up with the awesome suggestions. :>

Re: September Art Contest!~Results
First of all, congratulations to all the winners!
Fantastic stuff, all of you! and gREAt to see variation in the form of a video entry also =DDD I didn't realise we had that much active artists here, and I'm very proud and excited as to the art section, now =D *hi fives all* and now - Quote:
My dear, realise that EVERyone puts in work and effort and detail into pieces they enter into competitions; not just yourself. And it's a competition, meaning that people go in kNOWing that there is a high chance that they WON't place :> such is just the NATure of something like a contest. Yes you put in time and effort, but that doesn't make you enTITled to place. One of most important things you need to learn to do as an artist is how to get into a positive frame of mind. To do something and work on something for the satisfaction of producing your best , and something beautiful, rather than just "to win". If one wins, then that's a great bonus. But the best prize is the knowledge that you've completed a lovely piece you're happy with, and increased your experience and practice. THAT is the real gain here, and that would make EVERyone who enters ANY contest a winner on that plane. Also, there is NOTHING wrong with ties. Most of the international competitions I'd taken part in ended up having ties for some places, and that is just the nature of art and taste. It's not "saying three and holding up 4 fingers"; it's saying "these 2 people's entries both deserve equal recognition and we couldn't decide on a clear favourite" which is FINE. Murderu has nO need to apologise. Many thanks to Murderous Wrinkle for organising and running this contest, and may it be one of many!
