February/March Voting

Here's where you vote for your favorite artwork!

When voting, please follow the following rules otherwise it might be rendered void and not counted.

Rules:

1) Your vote MUST be detailed. To make sure of this use the following as a guide, so that you mention them in your vote:
-THEME?
Do you think the artist did well in capturing the Theme?
Look at all the following points, and can you say that everything they've done really does fit with the Theme of Contentment?

- WHY do you like it?
Is the design good or is it awkward to look at?
Do the colors work well together and capture the mood?
What does it make you feel?

- WHAT really gets your attention?
Does something leap out at you and really make you look at the drawing?

2) If I see anything that is just one line going "Hey, that's awesome! You've really captured the mood! +1 to you!" I will maim you and delete that post. Not after PMing you to say you have until the end of the voting period to change your vote though.

3) If you want to mention that another person's artwork was also good - you can put them down as an Honorable Mention. That way if they don't win the main competition they might win the 2nd place. If that's the case you only need to do the following without the detailed vote as to why them:
Honorable Mention : Submission #
Reason: Minimum One sentence saying why you like it so much.

Ok, that being said here are the submissions!
Submission number 1:

Submission number 2:

My vote: Submission 4:

-THEME
I'm going to stick my personal opinion in here. When I think of contentment I don't think of happiness as such, but the satisfaction of one's life. I won't deny that this picture has contentment within it's imagery, but it isn't what I personally see. I see the element of happiness and joy being the majority. But out of the 3 pictures (I'm allowed to vote on) this one had more of the element of contentment than the others.

- WHY do you like it?
Oh man, where do I start. It is such a lovely and vibrant picture; colours AND atmosphere. It is clean i.e. the lines are precise and the colouring isn't messy. Not only that, but the layout is FAB! The foreground and background just fix perfectly together. It gives me a smile on my face when I look at it. :D

- WHAT really gets your attention?
The EXCELLENT colouring/shading. The trees are gorgeous, and the sky, WOW. It's so blue and bold. But what really gets my attention is the amount of detail you put into this! All with watercolour pencils? O:

Honourable Mention : Submission 2 AND 3 (^3^);
Reason: Ack, it would be really unfair to just choose one or the other, both had an equal value of a little something that I liked. Which is?! Well, Submission 2 is well done. The detail of the fur is clear and the brushes (digital) used for it gives the fur a soft, realistic texture. Very pretty ^_^
And Submission 3, well what can I say?! It just just so abstract that I personally would never had that kind of creation to draw this let alone THINK about drawing this xD Thumbs up for both pieces :D

Voting for Submission 4

-THEME?
It fits very well with the theme of contentment. Who wouldn't be content on a sunny day at the beach surrounded by friends?

- WHY do you like it?
The composition works splendidly, the first thing I look at is Link carrying that little girl and seeing them looking so happy before the rest of the picture makes it have a stronger impact on how you view the picture as a whole.
The colors are also nicely chosen, being all bright and cheerful and really just getting that happy mood across.
As others have said, looking at this drawing makes you smile. For me, it reminds me of times when I've gone to the beach with a bunch of friends and the amount of fun it was.

- WHAT really gets your attention?
The composition is this ones strong point. It has a strong sense of depth, from the rocks in the foreground to the middle ground with Link and then the background of the hut in the distance. And the SKY! Look at it, with those cute clouds and just how nicely blue it is. I can't get over that sky XD

Honorable Mention:
Submission 1. It was beautifully drawn and colored, and indeed it does give a great sense of contentment. Not to mention that the story of Kafei and Anju is a sweet one that makes you want to melt. The addition of the mask in the foreground was also a beautiful touch. The moon in the bg was a bit odd though. I can see it as some sort of warning, or how it tried in vain to ruin their happiness but its something that wasn't completely vital to the image and was kind of distracting.

My vote: Submission Number 1

-Theme:
The picture deals with the deeper meaning of contentment. I have to admit that my first thoughts, when I thought about "contentment + Zelda", were about the reunion of Anju and Kafei. I was a little annoyed when I saw that a certain person had already snatched that idea!
So yes, I think it perfectly fits the theme.
The embrace and the look on their faces really express the theme of contentment.
The only thing I don't like is the moon. I don't know I just would have liked it better without the moon. I think the moon gives the picture a second feeling of threat, which kinda takes away from the contentment feeling.

-Why I like it:
The coloring is beautyfull, as is the line art! :3
The blue and red colors go along very well, and the lovers mask and the pendant are nice details and symbols of Anju’s and Kafei’s story.
I also like the design of the "frame" it goes along well with the patterns on Kafei’s cloths and the lovers mask.
- What really catches my attention:
The hair is so detailed!! I mean, seriously I would never be patient enough to make such a detailed colouring. And the look on Kafei’s face is great; you can really see how he is feeling right now.
*Is still staring at the hair* *.*

Honourable mention: Submission 2
Very well done picture. Skilful usage of the lines to create the illusion fur and great anatomy. Sadly it does not really fit the theme of contentment that much, but other then that it’s a really good picture.

A little late to the party, but nevertheless, here goes! I'm no artist myself, so I apologize if my ramblings below are that of an amateur.

Rew's pick: Submission #1.

- THEME:
This drawing is a poignant take on one of the most memorable scenes in one of the most unique Zelda games, i.e. the heartfelt reunion of Anju and Kafei in Majora's Mask. As anyone who's completed this difficult side quest will remember, there's a lot of pathos and longing involved in the storyline as you go, what with Kafei's feelings of inadequacy after being turned to a boy and Anju's uncertainty over the fate of her beloved. After much ado, however, Link at last reunites the couple, which results in this collective exhaling on the part of everyone: the couple, presumably Link, and even the player. Reunited at last, they have each other, and to them it doesn't even matter if the moon is about to destroy their world. They are each other's world, and from that derives their contentment.

- WHY do I like it?
One of the things I like about this drawing is that it lets us in on something that the game itself kept from us--namely, seeing Kafei's adult face. But even so, we don't see the eyes, neither of Kafei nor Anju. But we do see the wrathful eyes of the moon. The fact that the couple isn't paying the slightest bit of attention to it, however, is striking. Also, the two seem to be enshrouded in a type of barrier from the moon, thus further creating the illusion that they are now in their own little world, a world that is very much apart from the world of Termina with its inevitable cataclysm.

- WHAT gets my attention?
The contrast is the first thing that jumps out to me from this picture; it's almost a form of dualism: wrathful and impending destruction in one sphere, then contented love on the other. I think the coloring pulls this off pretty well too. The artist did a good job of surrounding the moon with lots of reds and yellows, and did it in such a way that it creates a kind of shooting motion. The blue surrounding the couple, though, especially with the stars therein, all gives off the illusion of a quiet, peaceful night, just like any other, one where there is no moon threatening to destroy all.

Honorable Mention: Submission #4.
This drawing pulls off the theme of contentment almost as well as the first submission. We see a pre-teen Link, at this time far removed from the nautical exploits that will soon be his fate in the struggle against Ganondorf, living an ordinary but happy life with his sister and the children on his native island. The setting of a bright summer day adds to the idyllic portrait being painted here.

-THEME?
I chose this one because it hits me the hardest as a calm, peaceful kind of artwork. Link is relaxing, being with his sister and friends. This art piece captures more of the theme than the others, in my opinion.

- WHY do you like it?
Watercolor!! And to see some good old fashioned art is so awesome. The border adds a treasure map sort of feel. Well done. Their facial expressions are done very well, as are the proportions, although, Link's foot bothers me... some depth problems, but other than that, awesome.

- WHAT really gets your attention?
The fact that its done so perfectly with watercolor. The shading on the figures and rocks almost like it look like a real screen shot from the game.

I vote for Submission #4
-THEME?
The picture fits perfectly with the theme; all elements look good together: the colours, the expressions, the setting, and the characters.

- WHY do you like it?
All details of the picture fit perfectly together. The colours are mild, and I like the texture of the palm trees. It is a picture that makes me happy looking at. The background is detailed and have textures that fit each part - the sky, the earth and the grass.

- WHAT really gets your attention?
That it looks like digital art whilst being traditional.

Submission #4

-THEME?
Everything stays in the theme...the picture looks content in my view.

- WHY do you like it?
I'm no artist, but this looks nearly perfect. Detail is great, it looks like a professionally drawn scene from WW.

The only thing that bothers me is the height of Link. He is fairly tall for WW.

- WHAT really gets your attention?
The detail, everything. It all blends in perfectly. The bridge in the back is also made just like the game, not generic.

My vote would have to go for SUBMISSION #1. It was a close call, though.

- THEME?

To be honest, none of the submissions really captured my idea of contentness. This, admittedly, may have something to do with my idea of contentness. It is, however, a very happy picture, and happiness is fairly similar to contentness, I reckon.

- WHY do you like it?

It's just. too. effin. sweet. Makes your heart melt.

Other than that, it's just a really pretty, well-made picture. I like the colours, and I really like the wee details (the Couple's Mask and the wee trinket thing of which I forgot the name that Kafei has).

- WHAT really gets your attention?

The expression of happiness on Anju's and Kafei's faces. It's really striking, and really nicely done, and very impressive how well it shows the happiness. The colours also stand out. I really like the blue background thing.

HONOURABLE MENTION: SUBMISSION #2

I was originally going to vote for this one, but then I noticed that there was supposed to be a theme of contentment. I personally just don't see the contentment in the picture. Maybe that's just me, though.

That said, the picture is amazing. Seriously. The sheer amount of detail, the hairs, the wee eyes... It's the kind of stuff that made me give up on art on account of me never ever ever going to be as good as that (for the record, j/k).

Besides, it's huggable <3

SECOND HONOURABLE MENTION (if I'm allowed to do that): SUBMISSION #4

After submission #2 was ruled out for me, I had a very hard time deciding between #1 and #4. Both are simply amazing. First off, I absolutely love the way the sky was done in #4. Seriously. The background, in general, is amazing, actually. The whole depth thing was carried out pretty much flawlessly. The foreground is brilliant as well. Link, Aryll and the two kids really look happy. It's a really nice scene. The attention to details is amazing as well. I love the attention to details as well. The wee blades of grass, the gulls in the background near the Lookout, the wee crab peeking over the slope, the cracks in the rocks, stuff like that. Seriously, it's an amazing work of art. I'm inclined to change my vote, to be honest.

Oh, and a big XD at entry #3.

Submission 4

Theme: I love the way how they captured the kids of Outset Island.

Why do you like it: It has a good use of watercolor, realistic but at the same time it is still stays true to The Windwaker design.

WHAT really gets your attention?
The colors blend in pefectly and is a beautiful piece of art.
