February/March Theme!

Thas right, it’s middle of February and as such I don’t want to wait until March to make the first contest so you’ll have extra long to complete this theme!

This theme will be Zelda based because, horror of horrors, this is a Zelda site!

Mission of the month – Contentment

Rules –
1) It must focus on at least one person from the Zelda franchise. It can be from Link himself to the cat with a fish fetish in Twilight Princess. Yes, they must be looking content or the art should make someone look at it going 'aww they look happy and content with their life'

2) I want original art, none of that copying someone else's stuff! Art consists of drawings created by the participant. They can be traditional pencil drawings to digital ones. If you want to go further and do sculptures or photography you have to have proof it was your work and it relates to the theme.

3) I can't think of anything else.. I reserve this rule.

Have at it people!

Submissions will go into the Submissions thread which will come up in about a weeks time.
Any questions regarding this theme can be asked here - I'll do my best to answer if there are any ^_^

Re: February/March Theme!

I'm confused. So, the overall theme is Zelda - but the 'mission' is contentment? As in, the artwork must be of a character from Zelda, looking content?

Isn't the sweetest sprite ever? (well it depicts samus it has to be awesome)
Sadly it is not mine, it's from Abyss Wolf on deviantart, he made sprites for all the characters in brawl and they are all very good.
I'm not that much of a pixel artist, sometimes I try to make sprites but I'm never satisfied with them.:/

Oh and to make this less offtopic, who will decied who "wins" (I know it's just for fun) will there be like votes or is there some sort of jury?

Well. To quote my self from the monthly contest thread:
Quote:
Art will be graded out of 10 on the following:
Composition – how you’ve set the scene out, if all the elements work well together and the whole image is balanced and not too cluttered or simple.
Interpretation – how creative you were with the theme, whether you included little bits and pieces that would really represent the theme.
Relevance – how much the image is related to the theme and whether or not it portrays the theme well, would someone looking at it know what it was about?
Voter’s Opinion – the personal opinion of the Voter’s of the image as a whole.

If I decide to make voting open to the public - I will enforce that you detail exactly WHY you gave so and so points. No randomly saying "Hey, thas awesome, you r0xorz! + 8". I want you to support a valid reason for your scoring. If I'm not happy with it I'll let you know to give you a chance to change it, otherwise I won't count it.

Re: February/March Theme!

One more question. Can the submission be a short series of scenes (like, a comic or manga format)?

Re: February/March Theme!

To put everyone on even footing I'd rather it was just a single scene. Having things like comics gives you an advantage since you can draw out a story as opposed to a single drawing that tries to capture everything.

So for now, no comics. Perhaps as I get more comfortable to hosting these contests I'll allow them in but not at the moment ^_^; I'm sorry.

Re: February/March Theme!

Yeah, I posted your submission into the thread for you. Now we all sit back and wait til the end of March to close it and start the voting which will be one week.

I've decided I'll let it be open to the public this time and see how it goes.

While we all wait, anyone got any ideas on what the next theme should be? Remember it doesn't have to be Zelda related and can be as simple as an emotion or even a scene from a story or poem you wish to see portrayed.

It's awesome, yeah. I love all the entries so far.

Hopefully I can finally get around to drawing something today, I'm so looking forward to picking up a pencil again.

Hmm! Sadness, desperation, hostility, evilness, madness, etc. Something opposite of 'contentment'.

Re: February/March Theme!

Just submit your work into the Submissions thread ^_^ No need to sign up or anything.

To upload drawings get an account in something like Photobucket and upload your image into it. Once it's uploaded, copy the link provided and just paste it in the submissions thread =3

Re: February/March Theme!

And I even gave them two months instead of the normal one month XD

Was the first theme too hard? Or perhaps I should just host these contests every other month?

I just think people forget or are lazy. Every other month will be worse I think, they'd forget even more.
