Favorite 'Art Style'

Out of the hundreds, millions of mangas (or animes), which art style "trips your trigger"? Are you the type of person that only pays attention to the story, or do you first judge the book by the cover?

For me, One Piece has one of the most unique styles. Yes, I will say that Oda is not the greatest at anatomy, but he can create masterpieces.

Angel Beach, Enies Lobby

Plus, he makes the most creative characters. Anywho, now I want to hear your opinions.

Ah, one more thing, it would be very nice for there to be some examples.

Hah, same. xP I'm not an avid manga reader, but still a big one Piece fan. Other anime drawing styles like Bleach or FMA seem too stereotypical of anime. :\ Cowboy Bebop is pretty unique though.

But yeah, One Piece is my favorite, it's the only series where I'm following the manga and I've watched a bunch of the anime ;P

NOTE: These pictures have spoilers for the Thriller Bark arc- not huuuuuuge ones, but still.

I like how he can draw very goofy characters in comical situations, like this: http://img7.onemanga.com/mangas/0000...0000443/03.jpg

His characters are a lot more unqiue in terms of art and design than other animes I've seen. Like these ones: http://img7.onemanga.com/mangas/0000...0455/12-13.jpg

Here's a final example of a great character drawing: http://img7.onemanga.com/mangas/0000...0456/18-19.jpg

So yeah, very unique style that I really like.

I don't mean to be picky, but even though One Piece is completely unique and ten times better than the art in Bleach or FMA...they're really not that stereotypical anime to be honest (although it's kinda hard to tell unless you see the manga illustrations, the anime ones do indeed seem stereotypical anime). They have moments that are often used in anime (or morely, anime cliches) but I find both of the styles to be quite unique, especially Bleach's even though Bleach is really really bad in terms of characters and story. Matter of fact I know quite a few people who read Bleach just because of the unique art style, lol.

I mean, really, Cowboy Bebop is more animu than both FMA and Bleach in terms of art style. >_> I'm sorry, it is. There's nothing wrong with that, but I've seen Cowboy Bebop's style tons of times.

That being said, I think the two manga artists who really stand out in terms of superb art that excels even the art in American comics is Kentarou Miura and Takehiko Inoue. Both are just excellent in just about every page of manga they draw. Both, however, did have a rough start and developed their styles over time (meaning, they were mostly okay at first, very detailed, but it wasn't the best, but nowadays it's completely different and I could honestly call these two guys some of the greatest artists in any comic book), and not all of their stuff is the best in the world (however both of their life works are pure masterpieces) in terms of story and whatnot.

Tetsuo Hara also really stands out as a very detailed and good artist although I wouldn't say he's as great as the two ones listed.

For my other two favorites...Naoki Urasawa simple for his awesome facial expressions and emotion, and Hirohiko Araki for his unique, awesome, and detailed character designs.

Ahhhh. That must be my problem, then- the only manga I read is One Piece, the rest I just watch the shows. My bad, then :p

I'll take a peek at the Bleach manga to see the artwork. But yeah, it's quite a cliched show in general; although it has some fun fights, story's more important to me in manga/anime. :\

One Piece's art style has always rubbed me the wrong way a bit. I'm not claiming it's bad, since I know it isn't, it's just not my favorite/something that appeals to my taste. Some of the scenes in it actually look pretty awesome though.

As for my favorites...

Takeshi Obata's style is one I like, though towards the end of Death Note it started to descrease in quality.

Tite Kubo's looks great, though around the beginning of Bleach it was much more mediocre.

Two other styles I like are CLAMP's and Katsura Hoshino's. CLAMP is great with details and expressions, in my opinion, and their color spreads are gorgeous. Hoshino (who does D.Gray-man) has something about hers that's just nice to see, though there's times when you can't tell what's going on because she's tried to fit too much into one panel.

I was waiting for someone to mention Death Note. As for the decrease in quality, I don't know what to say about that. I haven't noticed it. Maybe I should do another quick read of it.
