Neon Genesis Evangelion- Greatest Manga/Animé Ever Created!1kthxbai

I'm pretty sure every hardcore- or regular person who usually watches animé or reads his daily manga, is familiar with the Evangelion series.

The series occur somewhere in the year 2014, when a young boy, Shinji Ikari meets his real father again. As his father requests something of his son, the story continues.

This is absolutely one the greatest series I've ever read, really. You should all buy the manga immediately, or at least watch the animé.

Discuss.

It's also one of the more messed up Animes out there. I mean, damn.

Granted, I've only actually watched the entirety of two series of anime (NGE being one of them)

Well, it might have something to do with the fact that throughout the series every character is killed, sent insane or screwed over in some way. Also, every single character has a tragic childhood.

Awesome series anyway. Need to see the movies though D;.

Jackin to the sight of your naked comatose lady-friend. That part was so random and out of nowhere; I don't even remember her being in a coma in the series. That was just for cheap shock value,

Before the show broke under the strain of a weakening budget and growing insanity/emoness of the director, I was lovin it. The characters were some of the best I've seen in an anime. And even when you could tell when "these guys were running low on money," I was still lovin it, all up to the last minute of the final ep, the writing was just that good.
The movie was just a big WTF. It was engaging, but a big WTF nonetheless.

The new movies comin out look beautiful, and I hear the dub for the first one's comin pretty soon, like this Spring. Bring on the nostalgia.

I liked the series...as a drama. I don't own any volumes of it because, frankly, I doubt I'll ever watch it again, it's just too depressing.

And yeah, it's messed up. The episode that ends with Asuka getting "mind raped" is kinda the clincher.

Now, I've never read the manga, but from my understanding it's vastly inferior to the TV show. (Rather like the Cowboy Bebop manga)

I disagree there. She was in a coma in the show, and the romantic tension was there.

Now, it was still probably done for the shock value (End of Evangelion was really the series creator's way of trying to upset all of the fans.), but it was hardly out-of-the-blue.

I actually liked the original ending. End of Evangelion does it much better, but I didn't find it to be horribly out of place or anything.

Of course, the "elevator scene" was torture to watch. So much time, so little animation!

Er, which movie?

Really? I just remember, in the show, after the mind-rape, she sorta just regressed and went into an even worse I-hate-everything mode.

Is that the one with Misato? Or the one with Kowaru. I loved the Misato scene, but the last part of Kowaru's decent was that mindbottlingly long still frame. If that's what you meant by torture, then I whole heartedly agree.

The whole of EoE. Granted, I loved seeing Asuka finally kick major ass. It was still WTF-worthy seeing as how she just got out of her coma.

Yeah, but I seem to recall her falling into a coma right at the end (mind you, it's been years, so I'm by no means positive about that.)

No, not those ones.

I mean Rei + Asuka standing in an elevator. Not moving. Not talking. The only noise being a "click" that happened every couple of seconds. I think they stood like that for over half a minute.

Well, it made some kinda sense. But yeah, EoE, as I said, was really supposed to be the ultimate anti-fan service. Make the characters die as slowly as you can, and then end it on a downer.
