Monster

Ok, I expect this thread to get maybe 2 responses. Monster is a manga by Urasawa Naoki which was later adapted into an anime by the same title.

The story is about a young neurosurgeon named Dr. Kenzo Tenma. He is the best of all the doctors at Eisler memorial hospital. It is shortley after the fall of the Berlin wall(it takes place in Germany). When Dr. Tenma saves the life of a young twin boy instead of the mayor he learns what it ruely means to be a doctor, that all lives should be treated the same. After certain events which I won't get into Tenma is promoted to the top position. Life goes on for several years until a man named Junkers has to get treated at the hospital. He said a "Monster" is after him. After a long talk Tenma gets a bond with Junkers. That night however when Tenma arrives back at the hospital Junkers is missing, Tenma goes out side after spotting him and follows him to a building underconstruction. Junkers yells for tenma not to come, that the monster is there. Tenma doesn't listen and goes in anyway. What he sees is the "monster" is the boy he had treated 9 years ago. It is now his job to hunt down and kill this young man.

What unwinds is a very intricate story of character development and very intinutive twists. I didn't spoil anything though, this is only vol 1 of 18. If you have read or seen what do you think, and if you haven't i highly recommend it.

Monster is just pure genius, loved every minute I read of it. The characters, the theme, and the pace was just perfect.

Although I prefer his other work 20th Century Boys over it. I suggest it, it's amazing.

With my finals coming up this week i don't have much time to get into something new, but I'll keep that in mind. I hated Runge right up until the end

The way certain characters like Grimmer evolved were fantastic. Too bad Geneon shut down. They were going to bring this great show to us, then maybe we might get a bigger fan base for it.

There was a lot of violence (not my favorite thing.) but it definitely kept me interested. It wasn't a typical fighting anime/manga either which made it all of the more enjoyable for me.

There really wasn't too much violence save for the beginning and end. The middle part was the meat of the series, a nice investigation.

Sadly I heard Geneon was going to bring us this hit before they went under. Oh well, it probably would have gone to Adult Swim and been instantley ruined.
