I actually had the same mentality as you did when I was first introduced to Bleach; a mindless, generic gore-fest. Then I went to Japan and started reading the manga, and that's when I really got into it. I highly recommend checking that out, since it's way better than the anime (there's a lot of stuff in the manga that's left out of the anime, and it really hurts the anime. The manga is a lot more fast-paced as well). Glad to hear you like it, though Just ignore the filler episodes, those kind of suck.

I'm pretty sure Bleach is still generic shonen even though the first chapters were good as a kind of Yu Yu Hakusho rip-off kind of thing.

Then I watched a few episodes and realized it was indeed mindless drivel, just with less gore than I had expected. Before anybody does anything cool they have to say a really cool Japanese phrase like "Sunshine Dinosaur Corset!" And there's really thick blood, it's like glue or something and makes schlopping sounds. Also apparently there's some chick with big boobs and that contributes to the story somehow. Or, no, wait, like three of them or something.

Indeed, from what I've heard and seen that statement holds rather true. That's why I like it.

Since there was no new episode or manga chapter this week, I thought it'd be a good idea for everyone post there favorite moments from either one.

One of my favorite moments from the anime is the kidnapping of Orihime. There's just something about Ulquoirra that's so...awesome. The music really helped to make that scene so great.

Yeah, when Bleach gets into the Spanish style guitar solos, the quality of the episode immediately goes up.

My favorite moment was Ikaku's battle with Edorad Leones. It had it all; Spanish guitar solos and violin orgies, stunning animation and insane battle tactics that would only work in the world of Bleach.

Grimmjow and Ichigo's battle in epi 166 is a close 2nd. 3rd would be epi 10 with Don Kanonji or whatever his name is.

One of my favorite fights. The animation of Ikkaku's Bankai initiation is top-notch.

I thought it was a pretty generic filler, some funny parts, some medium quality action, nothing that big. The filler arc only started and I'm already fed up with those.

From the looks of it, I'd say that this filler is taking place before Hueco Mundo, which is good *sigh of relief* I'm also going to assume that from what the begining of the episode said, the new captain is most likely going to be the bad guy (nooooooooo and I like him too ). The new chick is cute, and I wonder why Urahara has that *hobbie

Overall, I think it's providing some good comedic relief before things get really violent and stuff.

Also, one of my sources said the fillers will be lasting for 3-4 months.

Hehe, I like the four from Squad 11. There general philosophy (all physical fighting all the time ftw) isn't really my thing. But I just can't help liking them. Yumichika has that atmosphere about him that tends to keep the audience from liking him. But I think he's great. He's arrogant, vain, kinda funny, and can hold his own in battles. His friend, Ikkaku, has this really straightforward dedication to fighting. He's a risk taker, a quality I seem to find amusing in anime characters. Yachiru is just adorable lol. She's fun, lighthearted, and hopelessly positive. And she brings out the 'soft side' of Kenpachi. And speaking of the Squad 11 captain, Kenpachi is...a beast. Yeah sure, no special skill display or any of that. Whatever lol. And his history with Yachiru is just oddly touching to me (well, all of their histories are generally touching to me lol). I just like these four from Squad 11 a lot. Altogether, they just remind me of...idk.

It definitely seems that way. Which bites since the fights in the manga coming up are insane.

Every fight except the Espada with glasses, Szaryal or whatever. That guy's battle is just overdone: it's like a cock fight, but instead of cocks, the characters have the most out-there of dues ex machinas. And as much as I advocate a adult humor in my anime, I'm not looking forward to the part with Nemu's motherhood being animated.

Seriously, I don't mind the animators taking 3-4 months to figure out how to do that scene and get it on national Japanese television.

As for the fillers, the comedy is refreshing, plus it doesn't feel as out of place as it did in Hueco Mundo. Its just that its whole place within canon is random and completely craps on serial storytelling logic, and that's my main problem with it. Well, as long as it delivers the lulz, I'll keep watching.

Mayuri wins D: (I'm a Szayel fan)

Knowing the animators, they'll do something to jack up the Nemu scene. When Szayel was shown in the anime eating one of his comrades, they made it so that he turn it into a ball, while the manga showed the guys arm sticking out of Szayel's mouth and then Szayel using it as a toothpick. I believe that right there is proof they will jack up that scene royally.
