Live Action Robotech Announced

Wow, they're going to make a live action Robotech movie, and Tobey Maguire(Spiderman) is going to be producing it. Apparently Warner Bros got the rights and the writer will be Craig Zahler(who is he?) So far no director or a filming date.

Quote:
Tobey Maguire may be swapping his Spidey suit to climb inside a giant robot. Casting more doubt on Maguire's future involvement in the continuing Spider-Man film franchise, it's been announced that the actor is producing and may be taking a leading role in Robotech, a live-action flick based on the popular anime series from the 1980s.
IGN: Maguire Making Robotech

If they pull it off as well as Transformers did, this is going to be awesome.

Now all we need is a live action Gundam movie, and all your major giant robot shows will be covered. Oh and Evangelion (I am ashamed to say I havent seen Evangelion yet, but its on my to do list. Also, I've never seen Robotech, just heard about)

They have done a live action Gundam movie. It's the god awful movie called G-Saviour. You wont find any new copies of the movie in the US as Bandai ceased production. In fact Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino was vocally displeased with the movie.

As for the Robotech deal why not just do the suprior Macross which the first part of Robotech is based off of anyway.

Because they can only get the rights to the mech designs from the anime on which New Generation is based. And there would be a whole heap of legal issues in regards to the differing characters. Sounds interesting I don't think Tobey Macguire is suitable for any existing character in the Robotech Universe though. I can't even imagine him in Louie's glasses. How realistic can you get the Cyclone though.

I'm not much on Robotech, but it sounds like a good thing. Maguire doesn't look fit for a role in this movie (just a hunch), but him as a producer might work out (also a hunch; since he's a good actor, amybe he's also a good producer).

BTW Eternal Paradox, Evangelion is a must see. Very good, not a waste of time.
