Pokemon

Does anyone besides me think pokemon is going downhill? The original season was great, but I stopped watching pokemon after they added more than the original 150. Last month, I was curious about the new pokemon seasons so I decided to pick up Pearl. Prior to that, I did some Wikipedia research and looked up pokemon from Johto, Sinnoh and Hoenn. The Johto pokemon had some that were ok, but most were stupid in my opinion. Then, when I researched Hoenn, the pokemon started getting worse. It looked like the creators were writing down anything that came into their mind, without any thought at all. They added lower forms of pokemon that were already too cute and babyish to begin with(for example, clefairy, pikachu and merill)! And what's with the new legendary pokemon that are puny, but all-powerful(celeby and manaphy)? eww. I had begun to see some improvement in the Sinnoh league, however. It looks like the creators smartenned up and made some good pokemon, instead of the complete mess that was Hoenn.

But it is not just the new pokemon that are going downhill, it is also the TV show. Ash quit, Brock quit, James quit, Meowth quit, Misty quit (they even killed her off, too) and countless others quit, hell PIKACHU even quit! How can you continue a show if you can't even hire dedicated actors? They had to change the voices of all these crucial characters! One other thing I don't like is that Pokemon beauty contests are becoming just as important as battles. Who cares if the thing's cute? All I care about is watching it cream a weedle.

The original season brings nostalgia to me as I grew up with it, but when I look back on it I really do find it to be just as terrible as the newer seasons are. But I can honestly say that the Pokemon anime can be entertaining sometimes with Team Rocket's antics, but other than that, it isn't all that great.

There needs to be an "Always made of fail." option.

The TV series was really only good during the first and second season. The Johto saga was okay, but when they got to Hoenn it just was terrible. Diamond and Pearl is looking even worse.

lolno. Only the Sinnoh Pokemon suck. The Johto ones are awesome, and so are most of the Hoenn ones.

I have mixed feelings about this, there is finally a thread about this.

First of all, I'll say that I feel that the first season of Pokemon was the my greatest, most enjoyable, and favorite anime of my life, even till now. Its what brought me into the anime world as I bet it did to many other kids in the U.S who were born around were I was.
Now I'm not saying that Pokemon was great in past for everyone, but the reason it felt so much better I feel was because it was so much more original in the first season, it started out with a fresh slate and drew me into this giant Pokemon world back then I thought 150 was so much. Travels of Ash ketchum always brought something new to the table. Discovering what people do with their pokemon, what others views were of what pokemon were and how they should be treated. It was all new and original.

This plus, not to mention the fact of Ash traveling around the world basicly and getting gym badges. Everything about the show was enjoyable to me, especially the comedy they added to show back then, the good old original music and (for me) the unforgettable Pokerap and Pikachu's juke box.

Older audiences like lets say past 16 or so would not like it nearly as much as children. But I feel thats why Pokemon is still a favorite. But the generation who watched the original all the way to Ash's first disappointing close loss in the Pokemon league, that will stay.

Now the reason I think the current Pokemon isn't as popular is of course the fact that that they have been re-using the same thing over and over again. Some things about the show doesn't make sense anymore, (Ash's Pikachu should just about be unbeatable for most by now.)and if it were like a regular anime which brings me to another point, it should of, would of ended long ago. (around the time ash won the orange league, by then, everything had been sucked out about pokemon. )

I just feel that Pokemon isn't like any other anime in the sense of.... material. The show is constantly adding on more Pokemon, its like adding new content to a game, which pokemon really is, based off a video game and redoing the adventure in a different style.

This all brings me to the bottom line: People who've liked Pokemon and play the games will always like the show or find it acceptable. Sure they won't like it as much as the first time/season but its always cool to see Pokemon on TV.
On the other hand, the anime lovers that don't really play the games, just watch anime will think of it as trash really. It is as compared to others and probably bad in the start for some. The show has lost its prime long ago and should have ended long ago in terms of a good anime but Pokemon is unlike any other anime like Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, etc.

Pokemon is bad in sense of a quality anime but on the other hand, its common for Pokemon fans and gamers to watch it. It sucks for some and has for a while probably but Pokemon is mainly a video game, based off a video game,its not aiming for an excellent plot, its instead using the same formula just like the games have since they were released.

Oh yeah, no I don't think Pokemon is going downhill for me.

Pokemon is the most dead thing ever and yugioh too.

Of course Pokemon isn't going downhill. Although I still love their original series and Pokemon, the new ones are okay, too. Sometimes I feel like they just made up some cause they needed some (which is probably the case) but I still love Kanto, Hoenn, and Johto.

I think what they really need to do is make one huge game, with Kanto, Hoenn, Johto, Sinnoh, with every single aspect of every game. I would love if we could be Ash Ketcham again, with a little Pikachu following us. I wish it had things from all the regions, and I really wish the game would end around level 100 instead of level 60's.

That's my take on this.

Of course, all businesses do that to keep a franchise open, but I honestly can't see why everyone hates the Hoenn region. Out of all regions, it had the most Pokemon, and only a few actual designs were terrible (you can't tell me that out of 100+ Pokemon in that generation, that most of them had terrible designs; matter of fact, everytime someone lists what they hate, it's only a few out of the generation, not much compared to all the others). Besides, it's not like the first and second gens didn't have a bunch of terrible and retarded Pokemon.

After I discovered the GS ball was a plot device, I started to hate the Pokemon Anime.

But the Anime isn't going downhill in popularity, maybe in writing but not popularity wise.

I love the Sinnoh Pokemon, but the some of the ones in the Hoenn Region are a little weird looking. :/

Are the Johto Pokemon the 2nd gen Pokemon? If so, those were pretty cool too.

Only the anime and cards are going downhill. The games are still going strong, some Hoenn pokemon sucked at looks, but the Sinnoh pokemon were not so bad. Except Bibarel. That pokemon is utterly disgusting. And Dusknoir? Trash.

It's not going down because nothing has changed since the beginning. Ash starts out with Pickachu, meets Brock, and meets noob girl trainer.

Use to be a pokemon fan, I eventualy grew up with it.
And my last game was, pokemon ruby and I stopped it.
What I don't get is why they keep making pokemon in 3D but only for battle. Why Don't they make a pokemon game in 3D with the same gameplay as the 2D games. What I'm trying to tell is that they have to make the 2D games into 3D. But instead they keep making 3D pokemon games where you only can battle in a stupid arena or something.

I agree. I had the same thoughts earlier about Ninty making a 3D Pokemon game that's like the 2D games. They definitely should do that.
