Why anime is important to me

“Do you know a story that goes like this? A man injured his leg during a hunt. In the middle of the savanna with no means to treat the wound, the leg rots, and death approaches. The man got onto the airplane that finally arrived and there he sees a land of pure white below him. The place glistening in the light was the summit of a snow–covered mountain. The name of the mountain was Kilimanjaro. The man thinks to himself “That was where I was headed...” I hate this story; men only think about the past right before their death, as if they were searching frantically for proof that they were alive.”

I was watching cowboy bebop the other day and this quote really stuck with me. That’s what I really love about anime is the philosophy behind them they really get you thinking. And a lot of anime brings up so many questions and answers about life, death, love and hate, truth, perception and everything in-between. I guess I have been thinking about life and death a lot lately and I have re-watched some of my favorite anime like cowboy bebop, ghost in the shell and most importantly neon genesis and they have put a few things in perception.

There a lot philosophies in neon genesis to many to talk about so I will only talk about some, one of them being truth. In the final episode they talk about how there are as many truths as there are people and that all of them a real truths because we perceive them as true. The angle of view and the position you view your reality will change your perception of its nature it’s all literally a matter of perception. But there is only one truth that is your truth that’s the one formed from what ever view you chose to view it from. One can have a perception that is far too small however a person can only see things from the perception they chose to see them from. Raining days make you feel sad and sunny days make you feel happy if you a tolled this is so, you believe this is so but you can have fun on a raining day as well. Your truth can be change simply by the way you accept it, that’s how fragile the truth for a human really is. A person truth is so simple that they usually ignore it to focus on what they think is a deeper truth.

Another thing that neon genesis has put into perception is the meaning of self. At core we are all the same our minds lack something basic and we fear that lack and that’s why we put importance to the relationships with others. Mankind can not live with out being surrounded by others; mankind can not live alone, although you your self is always unique, that is why life is hard, that is why life is sad and empty, thus you want the close mental and physically presence of others. Maybe we exist to find out why we exist. My body is the shape that lets others recognize me as myself; it is my symbol for myself, representations, everything is a description not the real myself, every simply is a shape, a form and identifier to let other recognize me as me. My cloths, my room these are all parts of what makes up myself. What I think is me is me, what I recognize as myself is myself, I am no more or no less then the some of myself awareness, nobody can ever understand you the only one how can understand you and take care of you is you. Time brings change and as the world around as changes so does us; we are capable of change anytime our minds perceive these changes. The thing that forms you is your mind and its interaction of the world that surrounds you. If you are in world of nothing but yourself you have nothing to interact with, it’s as if your there but not there at all, with out others to interact with you can not truly recognize your own image. In the act of observing others you may find and recognize yourself. Your self image is restrained by having to observe the barriers between yourself and others. And yet you can not see yourself with out the presence of others. If this world is of only me there well be no difference between me and nothing. The perception of others forms my true self. We create a shape each other and so do the images around us

Wow that was a bit longer than it was meant to be I guess I should not drink and watch anime I get bit to philosophical for my own good, I just want people to understand why anime is important to me because it teaches and shapes me.

So I ask you why do you like anime and why is it important to you?

Re: Why anime is important to me

Anime...Yes, How I love it. Not only are the graphics good, but the comedy is original. My favorite part in anime is the emotions they give to the characters, you know such as: XD >.< ^.^, ect. ect. anime gets boring some times and ya gotta watch normal shows... But then I just go and read manga. Anime is what I grew up with... I'm going out with it too.

I grew up watching Sailor Moon, then they cancelled it and replaced it with Batman! I never forgot about that show, never will. I loved her transformations, a custom to most anime, and all of the scouts' outfits. Of course, being a fan, I bought a sailor outfit and put a tiara on my forehead...didn't come close to looking like her, nor the rest of the Sailor Scouts. I just can't stand why they had to let it go. My memories are almost gone of the episodes, as I have not seen an episode in years, and the episodes online are crap. So I only now remember the characters and the bad-guys. Nothing else but those and the little things in between. But It was my first anime show to watch, and a good one too.

Then came Pokemon. I remember the first episode, and even have the first episode book. Collecting little cute and mighty creatures is cute, so I faved this show as well. I have played most of the games, though I see no point in getting the two packs that come at once (green and red, silver and gold. ect.) Ash is cute, I had a crush on him before I knew he was 10 when he started his journey, but I still loved him for saving those pocket monsters from Team Rocket and other cruel villians along the road. This show, I have more memory of, since I see a new epsiode [almost] every day.

Inuyasha was a little adulted for me, but I still like it's plot. The demons and just everything makes you a fan.

Azumanga Daioh (Angel Girl) is a new one for me, as I have just been watching this show online. Amazingly funny, yet anime seems to have more cursing. Funny evil cat. crazy smart girl, and more. It's a pretty good anime. Watch it and Live.

Re: Why anime is important to me

Naruto actually moved 99% of its fans with the spirit of the main character alone. I'm in there with the 99%. Naruto has come into a series of near-death situations, but always hangs in there and acts tough as if it hadn't effected him, or 100% believed that he wouldn't die until he had become Hokage.

Hokagewa, orewa yume nakara.

(Because being Hokage is my dream)

I love Naruto alone, other animes I can't watch, some I like but are only 20 episodes long (Fruits Basket)

It's touched me in a way that I cannot be touched by any pedophile, or anime, ever again.

I didn't mean that literally. Sarcasm's hard to catch online, although I figured my use of "Japano-zealot" would make it clear. *shrug*

Now to be bombarded by flames.
Or not. We'll see.

Re: Why anime is important to me

I like anime because... Well, a lot of reasons, I guess. I can't say that I love anime and that all other types of animation suck, despite most anime being mature and well made (and, just like anything else, there's bad ones).

As I grow more mature over the years, I'm starting to look at anime as just another type of animation, nothing more. But I do like a bunch of them; seen over 100 so far. I usually tend to either like anime with deep philosophical meanings to them or ones with really well-done action scenes in them, with, of course, good characters, nice animation, and an interesting story and plot. Other than that, anime is just Japanese cartoons to me. It isn't that important in my life.

I like Anime becuase of how the chracters are made and how most animes have really good details and good colors. Some anime's a very funny and they have interesting characters but some of them are very stupid. And just becuase it's entertaining. >=3

Re: Why anime is important to me

Meh, I look at anime as just another form of entertainment, though the fanbase behind it tends to blow it out of porportion at times. Theres not really much anime I watch and I don't really watch it that often.

No offence to anyone here, but if anime (or any cartoon, for that matter) is "important to you," then you live one sad life.
