Pokemon(The Anime)

Since Pokemon became popular way back in when it started in the 90s, it was destined to have a cartoon series. That series came in about 1997, when Pokemon debuted in Japan. About a year later, it started in the US. Starring Pokemon trainer Ash and his Pikachu, the series was a great hit. While it can get repeative, it really has a good charm about it.

I admit, I stopped watching it when Ash went to Johto, mostly because of my new interest in Dragonball Z. By the time I returned, Misty was gone, Ash and Brock had new clothes, and there was a new girl and a little nerdy kid. It was the start of Advance Generation, the second series in the Pokemon trilogy. It has gone to become my favorite saga, mostly because of the introduction of Pokemon Contests and overall better plots.

Advance Generation has just ended it's run this September. Now, on September 28th, the same day as the Japanese release of Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, the third series will begin. Starring a new girl named Hikari, Ash and Brock, it seems to be another great addition to the show.

So what are you're thoughts on the show? I just want to know your favorite parts of the series.

I used to like it when I was like 8 or 9, and then the new episodes were pretty much crap-for-crap-for-brains.
Also, did you know there was 1 episode that was banned because it caused seizures in Japan or something?

I love Pokemon, I've been watching it since I was like 4. Of course, re-runs got me uninterested, but games got me more pumped. I do miss Misty, and her pulling on Brock's ears... And ash in the Jhoto rejion is the best part I can remember of all of the seasons.. But I remember the first episode, my brother even has a book of it.

I can't believe Pokemon has been here for over 10 years.

Yeah, the legendary Porygon episode. I've heard it made a big impact in Japan.

About the newer episodes, sure Team Rocket is still blasting off, but it has evolved abit. May's Contest episode provide a nice twist for the show and Ash has had alot of great gym battles with his AG Pokemon team.

The original series was the best. Then after that, everything, the whole series, the entire show, went down the drains. The storyline was cheezy, Team Rocket became lame and just show-filler, the Pokemons started to look odd and resembled almost nothing like the animals on Earth, which the original series was based on. Then we got new characters that didn't develop that all well, with some looking very annoying and others were just acting in plain annoyance.

Finally, the action and emotional scenes were not as great as before. There were little emphasis on character developments, and there were a lot more actions than before. I wouldn't mind the action parts, but the plot development was disappointing.

While not totally different the older storylines, the writers did attempt to spice up the series with Contests, Ash participating in the Battle Frontier, Pikachu actually learning afew new moves, etc...

I still think it's okay. I remember when me and my bro would wake up at 8 every saturday to watch new episodes of pokemon. good times, good times lol

Yeah. Just saw one yesterday, where Max's battling Ash or something and he didn't want to, then both of them went into a standoff and stuff like that. It wasn't something that's mind-blowing. But like the other thread in the General Gaming, probably it is because that I don't like the series going way off the track of original that I start to hate the new shows.

Ah... Pokemon! I remember back when I use to collect the cards! Ahh, good times! But now its crap.

Pokemon has become terrible now. The Opening Themes lack the empact that the original has, Ash has no true rival (Gary should have stayed), that the story is, well blah. The story has become too episodatic, if you miss an episode you will never know what happened, and it seems as though they are putting more into the random pokemon then the characters themselves! You don't even hear Ash's last name anymore, Ketchum.

Team Rocket is a now blah. They aren't as funny as before, and just no longer fits in the story. Had Giovanni, the boss, take more charge, then the show could have become a bit of an epic, like the games.

Its exactly why I always like Digimon over Pokemon.

Well toasted t.v. the weekday morning cartoon show on Australian channel ten is having some kind of tenth annivesary special this week (This is based on its emergence in japan rather then the rest of the world). Yes I watched it, I'll even admit that the first two movies are the only animes I have seen on the big screen. For me the series went downhill after the first time Ash went to that big tournement. I thought it was good to have him lose as it was more important than to have him overcoming the obstacles first time around. I have watched newer epsiodes and do find it interesting the way Ash kind of helps the new characters as his friends helped him in the first series. By the way at its height it wasn't considered uncool to quote the team rocket poem, motto, mantra at High School. You must remember we had been without anime on free to air for a while and pay-tv was still definately a luxury item.

I too watched those 10th anniversary episodes. It was interesting to see an episode based on the new Rescue ish games, and a mini movie involving Mewtwo again. I remember the Movies when they gave out Promo Pokemon cards. Was Cool.

I loved the Pokemon series, it was the second anime I actually got into. (First being Sailor Moon) I even taped every episode up to the end of the Orange Island Series. I fell in love with the show and which in turn made me love Pokemon.

I basically stopped watching the Anime when they hit the Heion scene. I could adjust to the change in clothes and the lack of Misty. *wants to see more Misty and Ash fights*

As for the band episodes, there have been many more. Even the ol' Tentacool and Tentacruel episode was band because it had some mention of insulting words, the use of guns and destruction of towers by the Giant Tentacruel.
And if you've seen the seizure episode you can kinda see why it waas banned. So much eyeburn!

But the banned episode I want to see would be the Beauty and the Beach episode containing James having huge breasts XD

Pokemon used to be the sh**, now it's kinda lame. If only the original Pokemon were still popular. Hypno and Snorlax are still my favorites...then there's Scizor...

See! The Polemon awesomeness ended after Gold/Silver. After that, the story got old, and the Pokemon (with the exception of the generic starter clones) don't even look cool. They either look like NOTHING or they look exactly like their imitated animals. It's not as cool as the old-skool 90s cartoon.

Pokemon, ahh what good times. I was such a hardcore Pokemon fan, and still am 0_o I don't really watch the anime that much anymore, like some others I took a break from watching it and was more interested in Dragonball Z or something else. I absolutely love the first series, it brings back so many good memories. I even have most of the episodes on video =) I remember gettin' up early in the morning just to watch Pokemon. Good times. The anime changed so quickly though, new Pokemon started to rapidly appear outta no where, and then Misty went...and then it started to kinda suck, well no it didn't suck..but it wasn't how I like it...it wasn't like the first series much. But that doesn't matter, Pokemon's still awesome

Oh yeah, I remember gettin' up the other day and seein' that Pokemon 10th anniversary on Toasted T.V. too. That was pretty sweet. It was different, but good.

although i dont watch it anymore, my favorite episode was when they introduced the character drew, creepy green hair egotistical dude? i thought it was odd cuz my name is drew and it was just weird. my favorite pokemon has and always will be volpix, i have about 10 diffferent vulpix cards, ones from various series of the cards, which i no longer collect.

I have a question.

When the hell is that DAMN PIKACHU GONNA EVOLVE!? And why does Ash keep releasing his BEST pokemon for newer more rip off versions of the old ones?

pikachu cant evolve unless he gets some kinda magic stone to do it, and ash chose not to evolve him for some reason i cant remember, it was explained in the earlier episodes when ash fought lutenant surge the gym leader and could only beat his richu because his pikachu was faster or something cuz he never evolved or something like that, and why he gets rid of good pokemon for rip offs? beats me, he had a charizard in the first series and he never uses it, charizard burns holes in everything and he dosnt use him ever, hes just odd.
