Re: Laputa: Castle in the Sky

So me and my friends were watching it, and it came to the part where the boy is working in that... what is it? It's like a mining are or something. But anyways, when the boss guy first started grunting (i think he was trying to loosen a bolt) I was like "Ooh, he's constipated." And then sadly, all of the dialogue after that point could be taken out of context and applied to constipation...... but overall I thought it was a good movie.

Cool. My fav part is when they found the Castle in the Sky. A lot of love there. My fav character would have to be Sheeta. She's pretty cool.

Re: Laputa: Castle in the Sky

I liked it overall, but I watched it with the whole Month oif Myasaki (sp?) thing. With Princess Mononoke and Valley of The Wind, it seems like too much 'Humans are evil, and animals are good' to me. Kind of messed up the experience. But by itself, it was a great movie.

Re: Laputa: Castle in the Sky

Love it? I owe my creative resurgance to it!!! Everything in the movie is gorgeous. Considering it was done in the late 80's, it still amazes. It's easly my 2nd favorite Ghibli movie, next to Spirited Away.

My favorite parts are either really epic or funny. For example, the scene when all the pirates try to get to Sheeta, only to end up doing most of her chores was hilarious. And the whole ending scene... it one of those times I wish I had a memory-erasing machine so I could experience it again with the same impact as the first time.

Yeah, same here. Spirited Away was the most beautiful. In every movie, like Laputa, Valley of the Wind, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Kiki's Delivery Service, & Howl's Moving Castle, all have lovers in them. I think that's where all the action gets started, with to lovers.

Re: Laputa: Castle in the Sky

Ok...

Laputa: Castle in the Sky is the official name of the movie made by Hayao Miyazaki. It was "renamed" Castle in the Sky by Disney in America because the words "La Puta" mean "prostitute" (to say it nicely) in spanish, and Disney being Disney, they could not have their spanish-speaking audience (immediately) alienated from buying the movie. (Which, by the way, is pretty much a lost battle, because minutes into the movie, the UNREMOVABLE word "LAPUTA" appears front and center in the screen.)

Where did Miyazaki got the name? From Swift's book "Gulliver's Travels" (at least I think that's how it's called), where there's a land that floats called Laputa. There's even a Princess in the story called ****a! (don't ban me yet! This is merely info!) Probably Swift knew of the meaning of "Laputa" in spanish, and being the satirist he is, put it in. AND Miyazaki being japanese, he probably didn't know at the time what that really meant.

Well, That gives new meaning to the movie.

I still think it's kind of a nice movie all in all. Are we allowed to discuss this part of the movie?

Exactly correct on the name origin there. Good movie, in Australia the movie is packaged under its full title as Disney doesn't distribute it here. (once again madman entertainment is the go to place). I just love the air pirates they are so much fun. In the english language version Mark Hamill proves why he is a go to guy when you need a villian voiced.

Re: Laputa: Castle in the Sky

Laputa is a classic. Gotta love its characters and oh that awesome theme song. The storyline is very funny and interesting too. Good thing I have the movie on a disc right now. It's sitting beside My Neighbour Totoro.

Her name is Sheeta, not ****a. But, I thought that was how you spell it, too. But, I think how her name is spelled is like Japanese. So, maybe that's why it sounds so different from how it's spelled.

Ok. La Puta means prostitute, or similar words. How do you think that relates to a floating castle? There is a princess, and she did let those men in who we know really just wanted some attention, but does that make her a slut, or just niave?

Re: Laputa: Castle in the Sky

I thought it was pretty good and I think my favorite part was when they made it to Laputa and you saw how peaceful and serene it was, without all the crazy army dudes. I guess it just seemed ancient and mystical and mysterious and it made you wonder what happen to this famous Castle in the Sky?
