Zelda Dimension (Not Destination Zelda, it's entirely different)

Alright, originally I wanted to make a Zelda fansite like this and call it Zelda Dimension and found out that already existed. Once they changed their name I thought, HUZAAHHH!!!!! So I made:

http://zeldadimension.webs.com/

Enjoy!! And please come and make an account.

Re: Zelda Dimension (Not Destination Zelda, it's entirely different)

There are over a million and one Zelda fan websites. Most of them are from free sites, and get little attention because all of the fans are on places like Zelda-Universe, Blog, Informer, Dungeon, Ganon's Castle, etc. I recommend trying to start something original, so you have (more or less) less competition.

You have a good point.

But -- I already did a lot of work to this. I don't want to start over.

What if I... Added something that differs it from other Zelda fansites? Eh eh?

Why don't I...

Make a section for, the Hylian Language. Yeah, And I can make a forum revolving around it, and a font for it. And yeah!

Re: Zelda Dimension (Not Destination Zelda, it's entirely different)

Lol, it feels very odd to look at another site with that name. Though no longer "owning" the site name, I'm not sure how it would be when you try to get the site accepted into the community.

With that being said, it's going to take a lot to get a "site like this". As it was already mentioned, the hardest part of owning a Zelda fan-site is finding something unique - something different than every other site listing guides.

Having the Hylian Language is a good start (Desert Colossus already has this, too, remember), but I'm not sure if it's something that'll jump start a site.

Whatever the case, though, good luck on the site.

Re: Zelda Dimension (Not Destination Zelda, it's entirely different)

Whoa am I really talking to the webmaster of Destination Zelda? I'm flattered.

I was thinking if I added pages with well-written information on guides (something EVERYBODY wants) and maybe adding some other stuff that no one has, thinking, thinking.

I know! There could be a quiz type thing for Zelda games and knowledge and stuff. And so on and so on.

Re: Zelda Dimension (Not Destination Zelda, it's entirely different)

You can go ahead and do that, I'm not stopping you - just remember that every Zelda site seems to have Zelda guides, with most of them resembling the same concept: an image and description of the item, boss, etc (including the locations, uses, strategies, and so on). So, that's not unique, in and of itself. Destination Zelda's no different in that sense (except that I've been trying to write scripts that make the images dynamic, but this isn't about me, lol).

A quiz is a good idea, but again, has been done, and really doesn't have much to it. Once someone does a quiz, that's pretty much it - let's say it's a five minute long quiz, and then what? It's over and aside from finding out the correct answers, not much satisfaction (unless there were personal ego-bragging rights). Again, the more unique things you have, the better, so I'm once again not saying you shouldn't do this; do what you think would be best for your site. Everyone has to start somewhere, right?

Lastly, don't worry about coming up with an idea within the same minute as you're making a post/reply to this topic - take some time to really get critical with the ideas. Possibly take a look at other fan-sites (for other games/topics, not just Zelda), see what they do that maybe Zelda sites overlooked, and expand on the idea - make it better, if you can. This isn't an easy thing to do, and it's not a quick solution, but in the long-run, if you do it, it'll be that much more helpful.

I can tell you have experience. I just have one question, why did you change the name of your site?

Re: Zelda Dimension (Not Destination Zelda, it's entirely different)

Although it's going off topic, one reason was because I had the name since 2001/2002, and wanted something different (and wanted a site name that wasn't "Zelda _insert_word_here". My girlfriend/co-owner of the site came up with Destination Zelda when I couldn't come up with anything (ironically, DZ is just ZD switched around), and I liked it - it has a nice metaphor within it.

The other reason is because some ad company apparently took our old URL, lol.

Some company will always buy any expired name. Especially ones like yours that had page rank. They will buy it. Park it. And prob sell again or sell links on.

Stupid ad companies. All I have (so far) is one measly ad at the top.
