Tips on Advertising Your Website

First of all, any thread in this section must follow the rules and regulations, found here.

*This thread will be revised over time to include more tips.*

When advertising a site/forum, you should think about the following:
  • What is the main goal for the site/forum?
  • Does it look professional?
  • Is it free of spelling and grammar errors?
  • What benefits does your forum/site have?
  • How could you make your site/forum better?
  • What other ways are you going to advertise (if you choose to do so)?
A site/forum without a point is bound to fail. No one will join if they don’t know what the site/forum is about. It could be about getting penguins to play checkers with polar bears for all they now. It is also a good idea not to make a site for chatting, alone. There are countless flash-chats like Yahoo’s chat, Skype, and others. Flash-chats are better, faster, and more efficient than chat sites and forums. You may post such threads in the ZU advertising section, but such threads are not likely to garner much traffic.

Likewise, a site/forum which looks professional is likely to get more traffic than a sloppy site/forum. Some characteristics of a sloppy site/forum are:
  • There are many spelling and grammar errors.
  • The colors are not balanced, and so therefore the site is too bright/dark.
  • The forum is full of spam and trollage.
  • The site/forum description is too short, and simple.
  • There are more staff members than normal members.
Whereas a professional site/forum is the complete opposite

In some instances, benefits, while not always necessary, can help create traffic. Benefits are the things people gain access to because they have membership of a site/forum. Some examples of these are: access to an arcade, newsletters, and other special offers.

In addition, no forum/site is perfect. There is always something that could be made better, to make the environment more enjoyable for everyone. While advice offered does not need to be accepted, it is something that might be beneficial to improving your project and should at least be taken under consideration and not simply dismissed.

The above are tips on how to advertise, and make your site/forum better to increase your traffic. These guidelines do not have to be followed, but are here as suggestions to help you. If you have a suggestion with how to make these tips better or to add a tip… please tell one of the advertisement mods.
