I begin to suspect you're trolling, but I'll answer your statement anyways.
Please explain how multiculturalism lessens the academic standards of a nation that supports it, if anything it should increase them, as new views and opinions are used to examine various things.
Edit: Oh, and about the media and science, science can be popular, just look at Nova, Mythbusters, Bill Nye the Science Guy, or any of the other handful of shows that portray science and are successful, the problem is the news media tends to gloss over science or just not understand what it's about, if they mention science at all it's because of some catastrophic failure, which gives people the impression that science is dangerous, hard, and useless.
