If all of the major news stations run reports about scientific discovery, people aren't going to be interested in science, they're going to watch something else. The media glorifies celebrities because thats what people want. They want to see ultrasounds of Angelina Jolie's baby, they want to know when Jennifer Aniston takes a crap, they want a front-row seat to the latest movie star divorce trial. And as long as thats what the people want, thats what the media will delivier.

I couldnt have said it better myself. You know I always did think that way, that america didnt care about scientists they care about actors and athletes, which is alright every now and then but they talk about it all the time. Apparently 17 other countries graduate more scientists than we do. Most people dont really care because they are obsessed with celebritiy. They feed that to their kids who waste their lives on pipe dreams of being famous which is an awful way to live. In order to really fix this problem, the media does need to shift and stop caring so much about famous people.
