The Clans put you with people that are similar to you in personality. On top of that, each clan is a smaller part of Zelda Universe. The clans compete and play gams amongst themselves. PS: The Post Count requirement and one month of membership is just to make sure you don't go inactive.

About that PS... its not like people don't want you in. I mean look at the members. Its like 23,000 people. Imagine each clan had 6,000 or so members with like 5,000 inactive or so. Also you could just make a character and come back a month later and go inactive again, hence why theres a post requirement. Its just like a little balance so only people active would be in a clan.
