Good article, Mirren.
I've been a bit hesitant about choosing between the two versions. The
GCN HUD looks much better than the
Wii one, IMO. I hate when the HUD takes up too much of the screen (as with Majora's Mask), and in the GCN version the sword and action buttons fit in that small space in the corner, while on Wii they take up half the right side of the screen (and I don't have a Widescreen TV). I know it's not a big deal, but I definetly prefer the GCN HUD.
I'm also worried about the fairy getting distracted, especially since it's apparently just the cursor, not an actual character within the game, like Navi or Tatl. I know I'll frequently be pushing the fairy off into a corner of the screen, as I'm doing with the arrow cursor right now. And then there are the chimes you hear when you move the fairy, which could potentially be annoying.
And then there's the camera. I don't really have a problem with the OoT/MM camera, but TWW has spoiled me. When playing TWW, I think I leave the camera in the set position maybe 10% of the time. I really like TWW's camera controls.
Yeah, those are all just nitpicks, and by now I'm fairly certain I'll be getting the Wii version. I agree with your argument that the fresh controls will enhance the experience, as opposed to having the same old controls that we've had for the last decade or so, that we've all mastered.
