I've been wanting to re-read my copy ever since I lent it to Lamont. There's one thing that always got me, about the end that they never address. The claw marks in Zampano's appartment, did he make them, or was it proof that at least the monster was real?
Johnny notes that they're too large and spread apart to be a cat, but not the right size to be man made. That, and Zampano was blind. Would he have asked one of the girls he dictated to to make them? What about the ones that Johnny never met?
