Good [Mountain] Bikes
I've been wondering whether anybody hear own good mountain bikes? What name brand is it and what types of mountain bikes you guys think are really good. I am saving money at this moment to buy two important things, a dell computer to replace my old and crappy computer and a mountain bike which is soon going to be my primary source of transportation, I'm tired of taking the bus with stinky people, asking my MOM for rides, and even sitting on the passengers seat of Angie's (my friend) car. Another reason is that the bike could totally help make my lower body get more fit and tight. I plan on going to work with it and possibly someway to college when I start.
I've been looking at some bikes and the one that I really think is cool looking and looks very tough is the 26" Mongoose Blackcomb Mountain Bike. Here's the Pic: ![]() I think it's pretty nice and costs nearly $280, or maybe you guys have a different suggestion. I had a trick bike once and used to do uber stuff with it until I annihalated the brakes and the tires, I still have it with me on my balcony, had it since I 13 years old. A Royce Union, and pretty heavy too. What kinds of bikes do you guys have and what do you recommend me to get?

Re: Good [Mountain] Bikes
Don't buy that bike if it's your primary source of transportation. You'll hate yourself if you try to ride that thing up a hill in a city. It looks very heavy, and the rear suspension wastes a lot of energy on street riding.
I don't know about the components of that bike, but you should do yourself a favour and pay a little more for a much better bike. If you want something that will last more than a couple years, you'll need to dish out at least $500. I ride a Gary Fisher Sugar 1. It's expensive, but it's a wonderful bike. I use it in races, and I use it to get around the city. Because of its frame design, it works like a hartail when I'm going up hills, but the rear suspension kicks in when I'm going downhill. I think for your price range, you should get a bike with only front suspension. If you want the best value, check out some Specialized or Trek bikes. I haven't been keeping up with the models, so you'll have to do the research yourself. Hope that helps.

Re: Good [Mountain] Bikes
I checked on my chosen bike and it says 46 pounds for the weight. Doesn't seem to heavy but thanks for the info Mad Hatter. Though I do think 500 dollars for a bike is amazingly gay, I don't poop money.
One of my co-workers has a bike like the one I showed in the pic told me he started out weak with it and now he's used to it going up hills and stuff without killing himself. But now that Mad Hatter says this maybe I should find a lighter bike for a lighter price...
