Well, Farore in OoT is the Goddess of Courage, and if I recall correctly gave Hyrule it's plants, life, etc. Or maybe that was Nayru... anyway, Link is the holder of her piece of the Triforce. If you think about it, Link seems pretty "distant" from the rest of... well, everything. He doesn't say much and doesn't really connect with anyone. As for the "rock" part, if what I said about Farore created life and plants, then "rock" could mean something like "planet", which holds much life...?
