My Windows XP... not genuine?
Okay, so here's the deal. My Windows downloaded this update while I was online, and now, when I start up, it says my Windows XP isn't genuine. I mean, at least I'm still allowed to use my PC, but I want to get rid of this update; uninstall it. I don't know if it's in the Add/Remove list. I checked, but I don't think it's there. Everytime I start up my PC, and windows is about to start up, I get this little box that gives me the option to "Get the Genuine Key Now" or "Resolve Later"
Can anyone help? ... It's irritating the hell out of me.

Re: My Windows XP... not genuine?
You probably got a pirated version of XP. Windows update now requires a key to use, and most likely your computer doesn't have the legit version of the key. Did you try to do a system restore (it won't hurt to try anyway)?

Re: My Windows XP... not genuine?
Unfortunatly, system restore is only in XP, but if you have XP and a dell computer (sorry I only know Dell comps) go to dell solution center and click system restore and it will go from there. Hope that helps.

Ok I work at a shop and all I am getting is that crap, Windows is not genuine blah blah blah.
people now need to buy $140 new software which is getting people mad at microsoft. Just leave it for now and try googleing it because there are hacks to get around this ^_^.

Re: My Windows XP... not genuine?
I say dont even bother with Windows.
They are infested with viruses and they are very expensive to own. Macs can only get like 6 viruses that arent even bad so I suggest to get a mac. They cost more, but with all the virus protection crap you have to pay for with windows, you end up saving money in the end. |

Start>All Programs>Acessories>System Tools>System Restore is how you find it. But it only works on XP (unless you have a beta test of Vista...). |

If you have a dual processing mac (like I do) you can install windows and mac on it, and only use windows for gaming. |
