Viewtiful Joe vs. Jak II
Okay, I have a dillema. I'm getting a new platformer for christmas and I can't decide on what to get. I've narrowed it down to two choices:
Jak II Viewtiful Joe Both look awesome, but I can't figure out which to get. I have enough for both, but I'm saving the other fifty for Rogue Squadron III. So, what do you think? Joe or Jak?

Re: Viewtiful Joe vs. Jak II
I'll avoid voting, as I only currently own Viewtiful Joe, and haven't had time to beat the game yet.
Viewtiful Joe is an amazing game. It provides a very satisfying degree of difficulty. However, the actual main run of the game is rather short, with the difficulty being the main factor adding length. There's a lot of replay in the various upgrade options and hidden bonuses, but I can seriously see it not being everybody's thing. While I myself acknowledge that the game is amazing, quite a fun experience, and definitely worth playing, I can see it easily being a rental title for many if not most gamers. I haven't even played Jak II, but the first game was an incredibly solid adventure title, and it sounds as if they've gone a long way to improve upon the previous game with Jak II. It's also guaranteed to be a longer play-through than Viewtiful Joe. I think it ultimately comes down to a matter of taste. Have you ever played Capcom's Cannon Spike? While they're very different experiences, VJ and CS feature very similar priorities.... that is, challenge and fast arse-kicking over length. Frankly, judging from the early RSIII reviews, I'd actually be inclined to dump it in favor of both Jak II and VJ. ![]()

Re: Viewtiful Joe vs. Jak II
I cant vote. They are both very good games by very good devolpers. But if it was life or death i'd choose JAK II. Because now it;s darker it looks alot intresting now. The gameplay is very different but they are very big names for top companies. Capcom have done a great job and so have Naughty Dog. The creators of Crash!

I was under the impression VJ can seem like one of the hardest and most unfair games on the planet, at times. Yet, keeps you coming back for more........ Where as, Jak II was quite simple and no harder than your average platformer/adventure game. Maybe I've been reading the wrong reviews........

Now for what i think about the games. I have only played Viewtiful Joe, i can't say i have anything particularily against Jak though. Joe is a challenging game that offers a lot of re-play with tight controls and is a well polished game. From what i have read, Jak II has all the same good qualities, but one particualr bad one; the overworld has you travel between mission and there is nothing to do, cause havoc, the guards kill you, and the vehicle physics are odd. Your choice should depend on if your play style is more suited towards a challenging sidescrolling brawler, or a platformer where it is good when there is action, but you'll be stuck with absolutely nothing to do between missions. At least we can't say it is the only game to have nothing to do between missions *coughTWWcough* ![]() |
