Abraham Lincoln would be my first reaction, but I think it's been covered.
Ronald Reagan: He managed to put the U.S.'s economy on a steady incline for his terms as President, he was a key part in liberating an ENEMY of the United States, Russia, and he was shot. That last part is important because everyone that did something special got shot. (i.e. Lincoln, Kennedy, Reagan. They were all greats and they all recieved an assassination attempt.)
