Yeah, I suppose going by all records on Earth. But what about beyond the Earth? We know little to nothing about life there.
Sure, none of us can say as a fact that life exists on another world, although the Universe seems just too big for life to only exist here. We only charted 10% of the sea floor, we're finding new life there, in the rainforests of South America, etc. We're finding so many new things on our own world, why not in others? We don't know if this planet was the first with life or not. If we aren't, then any other lifeform that preceded us that has surviving descendents would be more "advanced" then us, although not particularly more "sophisticated" they could be advance in design but less "sophisicated".
