I have a cable that has a switch on it. You can switch it between GBA mode or GBC mode. Using GBC mode, I have successfully traded Pokemon between Blue (running on my GBC) and Silver (running on the GBA). So in theory, if the GBA is running in GBC mode, you should be able to link it to a GBC and connect.
