I'm not saying that that's what I believe, I'm saying from a point of view why people think of it as a sin. I guess it could be a sin to masturbate for the soul purpose of showing disrespect to God or some crap like that, but if that was the case, then getting a vecectome (sp?) would be a sin too which sounds just as retarded.
