ZeldaFanGirl, I have deleted two of your posts in this thread for being to spammy or low quality, or for having too many spelling/grammar mistakes. This last one came perilously close as well. Keep it mind that posts like that get deleted.
Chrono Trigger is my favorite RPG of all time, and one of my all-time favorites, period. It is a beautiful work of art... "God's gift to gaming," someone in this thread said. I wouldn't go that far, but it's not to far off.
It's one of those games that appeal to nostalgia, the memories of people who played it while children or much younger. It's one of those games that leaves enduring memories, that not only remain with you, but grow sweeter as time goes by. Were I to play the game for the first time today, I have no doubt that I would be thoroughly unimpressed. But I'm not playing it for the first time today - I played it for the first time years ago.
But it is more then nostalgia, for it truly was a phenominal game for it's time. It had the best music I'd ever seen in a game, and even now only Chrono Cross has really surpassed it. It had a very fun battle system.
But what really earns it's place as my favorite RPG of all time is the atmospheres created by the different time periods, atmosphere that is set by a combination of the fantastic music and stylistic graphics. We get to see the desolation of a dying world that awaits us in the future. We get to see the idyllic present and the war-torn but no-less beautiful recent past. We get to see the very ancient past, and the dawn of humans as we know them.
Finally, we get to see the Kingdom of Zeal. When I think of perfection in theme and atmosphere, I think of Zeal. Zeal, with it's proud and delusional people, quite possibly the best music of all time, and most importantly, it's fall. The end of the Kingdom of Zeal is one of the single best events in gaming history.
The fact that Zeal is home to Prince Janus and Princess Schala is probably what seals the deal. Schala is one of the best characters I have ever seen in a game. She doesn't have extensive dialogue, and she doesn't spout insightful philosophy or anything, but the simple kindness and her sacrifices for your party are important. Her death and the battle immediately before it are extremely powerful scenes.
Yes, death. Chrono Trigger and games before it featured the deaths of main characters long before Final Fantasy 7 ever existed. You may not have controlled Schala, but she's as important of a character as any of the others.
And what about Janus? Magus? He is probably my single favorite character to ever appear in a video game. I won't even try to describe it, because I could never do it justice. His story has depth, and immense sadness.
But yes. Nothing can ever compete with the atmosphere of the Kingdom of Zeal and the role it plays in Chrono Trigger.
I love that game.
EDIT: If I may, I'd like to direct some of you to this remix:

It's very long, and I doubt that those who don't love Chrono Trigger as I do would care overly much, but to me it... is wonderful.
