Denzel is a new character who will be appearing in Advent Children. Maybe, Edge is situated on the otherside of Midgar, blocked from Red's view. Or maybe Edge was also destroyed sometime in those 500 years. Wait.........who cares? Find something worth while to ***** about.
I also disagree with your idea of making a movie of the actual game. I'd like to see a remake, but not a movie. It wouldn't work at all.
If you don't like Denzel, then just wait. I think he's only going to be the main character of the first set of stories. Remember, the point of the stories is to fill in the gap between FFVII and AC. Since Denzel's a new character, it makes perfect sense to flesh out his background.
