The official manga, in my opinion, is not a reliable source. It tells the story in a way that it never happened. For example, and one of the first events, is that mido helps Link defeat Gomma inside the deku tree and that never happened. It is funny how they portray some of the events in the story but I do not consider it to reliable since itīs not loyal to the actual game. My opinion keeps being that Sheik is a female.
