Deku Scrubs: the forgotten race?

So many people are upset about the near-total lack of Gorons in WW, and for one I was very excited to see their active return in the TP trailers. And then we lament the loss of the Zora, we wonder why an aquatic race couldn't survive in the sea, and we develop strange theories about evolution into the Rito. (These theories must be presented alongside theories of how the Rito were created in their current form by Valoo in certain states of the union) We barely even mention the Zolas, the Zoras' evil cousins, at all.

But then, what of the Deku Scrubs? Why do we care so little about these shady little creatures? What the heck happened to them in the great flood? Will they be in TP?

The Deku were so well developed in MM that their absence in WW really saddened me. Sure, they were annoying, and Deku Link could barely move around. But I missed the little weeds. Where did they go?

Re: Deku Scrubs: the forgotten race?

they would have been "over waterd" from the great flood, like if you over water a plant it will die, but i think they will come back in TP because i saw something that looked like a deku baba in the forest temple in the newest trailer, unless they decide to call it a boko baba again

Re: Deku Scrubs: the forgotten race?

They really arent that important. I mean I guess it would be ok to see them in TP...but they would obviously have to fit into the story somehow. I dont think Nintendo would just throw them in there because they would 'look good in the graphics'

They might just be an adverage enemy that you see in froest etc. or like in OoT how they thell you how to beat "Queenie", they may sell you stuff again, or have their own shops and trading posts.

The Deku scrubs... poor little guys! I think they lived in the lost woods and went down to the bottom of the Great Sea. Maybe some of them were lucky and grow on other little islands... since there are some races from the other games in Twilight Princess, I hope the Deku will be there too.

Re: Deku Scrubs: the forgotten race?

Guess why Deku Scrubs aren't in The Wind Waker? Because they can't swim.

Though, it's likely we'll see them return in the next game because there's a dungeon in the forest with the Kokiri/Deku symbol on the doors, and the monkeys from Majora's Mask are back. Both are of course related to the Deku Scrubs.

I love Dekus, but I think they were put in MM as an alternitive to the Kokiri. Koroks and Dekus are very similar.

Re: Deku Scrubs: the forgotten race?

Dekus? DEKUS?

;o; Come on, fellas, what about those poor, sweet like-likes?

*ahem* anyway, yeah, the return of the Deku would be a nice touch in the next game, though I don't think I'd break down into a fit of bitter tears if they weren't. They were nice, added a bit more color to the game, but I think we could really do without them. They were only really emphasized in Majora's Mask, so it's not like they're crutial, at least I dun think so.

I really miss the like-likes, though. Hmph.

Re: Deku Scrubs: the forgotten race?

Ok, first a few off-topic things dealing with the original post...

1: The Rito/Zora thing - the 'strange theories' regarding the Zora becoming the Rito are not just a fan created theory - it was flat out suggested by Aonuma himself in the Japan only Zelda Box, where in a section talking about Laruto and Fado's connection to Medli and Makar he says that this shows that the Zora and Kokiri races evolved into the Rito and Korock races.

2: Zola's do not exist! It was a different transliteration of Zora, and one that has only been used once in the Zelda series (LoZ). The so called 'Zola' have been refered to as simply Zora in every other game they appeared in (aLttP, OoA, etc). In fact, OoA's clearly explains the distinction between evil and good Zora - the good Zora are called Ocean Zora and the evil Zora are called River Zora. The fact that Ocean and River Zora are capable of surviving in both types of water is irrelevant, I guess... but still, it's official; no Zola, just barbaric River Zora.

As for the Deku in tWW - It's possible that they were not considered 'worthy' by the Goddesses and thus not ordered to go to the mountain tops - and so, were frozen in time like Ganon's men.

Re: Deku Scrubs: the forgotten race?

I wouldn't mind some Dekus in TP. I don't think they should have a home town though. What is interesting about Dekus is that they are always out on their own only trying to do what is right for them. Some are good, some are evil. Like any other race, I'd love to see them in the new art style.

Re: Deku Scrubs: the forgotten race?

I GOT IT!

ok this one also explains the Zora race as well

*ehem*...salt water

some plants can't survive on salt water or salty atmosphere, if a world made entirley of salt water surrounds you you must adapt to it, if you can't you must become extinct, Poor lil Dekus didn't have a chance they were always hiding in the soil, where salt can ruin and kill any old weed or plant (I saw the Dekus scrubs as weeds) they would surley perish, as for the Zoras well some aquatic life can't live in salt water they'ed die of suffacation, and the Zoras did live in lakes and river domains made of naturual water. This they evolved into creatures that could swore high away from the seas.

Sorry my idea sounds stupid >_<

Re: Deku Scrubs: the forgotten race?

Well for one, the Great Sea was formed by torrential downpores of rain. It doesn't rain salt water, so the Great Sea would actually be fresh water. And a reason why the dekus weren't missed and the rest were is that the Dekus never really had a village or a history or anything like that. They do have a palace, but it isn't much. In other games all they do is sell stuff. Swimming would'nt have anything to do with it as the Gorons used boats. That is just what I think.

Re: Deku Scrubs: the forgotten race?

i don't know why they were not in TWW i mean the gorons were on the sea and they can't swim. they could have been on boats but they weren't. i guess they all died, or changed like the Zoras or the Korkiri.

Re: Deku Scrubs: the forgotten race?

Hmm, I don't think I had even noticed the lack of the Deku in WW before I read this... Which is sad, I love them little weirdos. Especially in MM, the Deku Palace was so great! They should get more credit, and role, they are so special and hav
