Exclamation Argh! No lights!!!

Last night, at 11:30 I was happily surfing ZU forums, when my electric ran out.

The meter's charged by means of taking your key to a shop and paying. Well, everywhere within an 18 mile radius that can charge it is closed by 10, meaning I had to light up plenty of candles, and go to bed.

I'm so glad I have a GBA SP- light and power? No problem!!

I also have gas, which means I could still have coffee last night and this morning!!

Re: Argh! No lights!!!

doesn't electricity get supplied to your house via a mains switch? 240v?

I havent heard of charging an electric meter to supply the house with electricity.

Anyways, I hope everything is sorted now and that the family is happy , lol

Re: Argh! No lights!!!

the electricity didn't fail here but somehow all the streetlights in the neighbourhood were out for 2 days kinda fun because our garden looked much nicer with our own lights and not the streetlight, it looked very magical ^.^

I live in the UK. Where do you live? It's probably a country-thing.

The reason it has to be charged as opposed to a bill is because I live in a ****ty little council estate, where the bulk of people don't pay their bills. Every house has a meter. Should be moving out within 1-2 years, though.

Re: Argh! No lights!!!

Lousy Crazy G and his bunker...

I was 2+ days without power from the blackout. I hate not having air conditioning. In addition to that, we had to limit power use so as not to cause more blackouts until the other power plants were back up and running. You got off easy, groovemeister.

No, it wasn't. A company in Ohio screwed up by cutting corners.

Yah that's what I heard too on the radio. Fortunately, I was a 1,000 km away from my city when it happened, so I didn't have to suffer not playing video games...I had to suffer by not being able to use the heater when it got freezing at night in our trailer And on the radio they said dozens of times "It was not a terrorist attack" so I don't understand why Crazy G's saying it's Osama's fault.

Re: Argh! No lights!!!

I saw on a tabloid once that Osama is having an affair with Saddam and breeding killer dinosaurs. what a load of crap! And yes it was Ohio's fault with the power outage. Ohio is the entrance to hell.

The economics of the US I'm afraid; heavy captalism. It wouldn't happen in Europe.

Re: Argh! No lights!!!

Yeah, I remember hearing about that blackout... Glad I don't live in the Eastern US. XP

Well, there's an electric sub-station directly accross the street from our house that has some sort of problem... All summer long our power has been going out at random intervals, and the electric company didn't think much of it. (Our electric company is pathetic... They got in HUGE legal trouble earlier this year because their power plants were giving off WAY too many toxins in the air. They now have to fix their power plants to comply with the law, and the only way they can afford that is to force us citizens to suffer even more by greatly increasing the cost of electricity and gas.)

Anyway, a couple of weeks ago, the sub station across the street finally got the attention of the electric company when one of the towers exploded. --; That sent a huge surge of electricity that fried appliances that weren't attached to a surge protecter, then the power went out. Right in the middle of the day in one of the hottest days in summer! Miraculously, they restored the power after just one day, though it did take another day or two to get the phone and cable services running again (the surge somehow fried all phone lines and cable lines in the area, too.) That was a nice mess... xx;

Re: Argh! No lights!!!

Yeah, Europe could have something like that happen. I assume people in Europe are human, which would mean they can make errors, which is what happened here.

Powerful, but more socialist orientated.

Yes, of course it could happen, but in this day and age the US has gone from the land of opportunity to being a place where you're stuck in a social class, trying to just get by, and big companies will squeeze people for every penny they've got, regardless of morals, safety or the environment.

Of course, in the next hundred years anything could happen on either side of that big Atlantic pond.
