This article made me mad for two reasons.
1. Gay gamers felt the need to draw attention to themselves.
This speaks volumes because it shows that they still don't feel accepted in the gaming community. People are still bigots, and as usual, aren't keen on accepting people who are different from them. Online gaming is hilariously bad at this, but it's so bad that it's fairly indiscriminate. Hell, people throw ♥♥♥♥ around if your voice doesn't sound right, or your gamertag doesn't jive with them. However, I can see something else here, namely that, still, people are oversensitive to the words "gay" and "♥♥♥♥♥♥/fag" being uses as general insults all of the time.
Newsflash: if you're not gay, and they aren't using it to insult your gayness, then it doesn't mean gay. It means something along the lines of, lame, dumb, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, etc., but not homosexual, nor does it equate being homosexual with any of those things.
This South Park episode is very relevant here. Quote:

Lastly, pointing our your gayness is unnecessary because it alienates people who won't judge you for being gay in the first place, and the people who already don't like gay people for those types of things in the first place. Even further, it implies that your sexuality is something to flash to people for attention, or for some other reason.
2. And to the very last comment in the article: Gaming is about having fun. Not winning.
