Driving

Is anyone here in the process of learning to drive. I just finished my actcual "in-class" Drivers ed...thank god....and I have my first Behind the Wheel lesson coming up this tuesday. I got my temporary license in mid May so I have to wait six loooooong months until I get my licese (Wisconsin law). I've been driving a lot on streets with my parents and I'm really starting to get a good feel for it.

How does everybody here fit into this category? Temps? Just starting? Already got your license?

Re: Driving

well, it's a year until i'm old enough to take the it but i've decided not to take the driver-license.. at least i'll see how far i'll get without it (by using bus and train etc.) the reason is just because it's way too expencive and takes too much time and driving doesn't really tempt me..
I guess if i tryed driving some more than i have i might end up finding it more fun but nowadays nobody has the time to practise with me...

Re: Driving

I am just about to get my permit this summer after I take that emmensly boring drivers ed course. (keep this a secret, I have diriven before without a permit!! *GASP*) BUt ya, im just about to get it, and i have taken this other class. I drove my dads Mazda RX-8 aruond a parking lot and down a dirt road...i love it, it turns fast, and rides low, so i have to adjust the seat really high. My legs can barely reach the gas pump. heh, i love it all the same. the hardest thing to do is keep adjusting your stearing wheel. Oh well, good luck guys.

I'm old enough to drive. It's like an everyday thing, you just do it.

Re: Driving

I've had my licence for two years now. Like Fat Man said, driving is just an everyday thing, like brushing your teeth.

Re: Driving

I already got my official driver's license, and thank god I got it before they changed the law of driving due to the amount of accidents for speeding and drunk driving.

I first had to take a written exam and must get 80% in order to pass. Each time it costed me $20 Canadian (did it twice, failed the first time). Then I got my L-Driver License (Learner), where there has to be at least a person 20 years or older with an official license sitting beside me, monitoring my driving. During that time, I had an instructor teaching me how to drive. I also went to the Driving School for around a month to shrink the amount of waiting time for N-Driver License from 6 months to 3 months.

After I got all the necessary things registered, I went to take my first road test. I passed it the first time, got my N-License (New Driver). Then I waited for around a year and a half before I can take my second road test for the official license.

I then got my official driver's license after a year and a half after passing the road test in one try and I've been driving ever since.

Now they have increased the amount of time that you need to wait to get from L-License to N-License and N-License to Official License, from six months to a year, and one and half year to two years.

Re: Driving

I've had my learners licence for over a year and half. I'm not sure if I'll ever get my Provisional Licence. I can't afford to go for lessons very often and to be honest I'm not that interested in driving. Tell ya the truth, it's kind of scary. Well, with me behind the wheel anyway. I haven't done any driving since December and it doesn't look like I'll be going for any lessons any time soon. One day I might get it...but for now I don't really care.

Re: Driving

yea, ive had mine for a year now, you'll love driving, so much freedom! *sigh* just make sure you concentrate real hard while you're driving with your folks, so they believe ur a responsible driver. my mom refuses to drive with me cause she's scared of my driving, although im an excellent driver. She's just paranoid. She sits there and pretends to slam on the brakes, even though she's in the passenger seat. lol. Good luck to you Ian. And learn how to parallel park well. THe first time I went to take my test, I failed because i was 3 inches too far from the curb, talk about lame

Re: Driving

hmm wow those sound like pretty big process to get your license, I got mine a few years back.... All I had todo was get 10 driveing question right to get my learners, go for a driveing test for the next stage up (So I could drive alone) and then a harder test to get my full....

in New Zealand its pretty easy

Re: Driving

I don't have my license but I drive anyway. I'm still in the process of getting off my lazy ass and going to the DMV to actually get it - just in case I get stopped for some bogus reason. I haven't gotten stopped yet, so that means I'm not a bad driver. I just really hate the DMV, I try to avoid it as much as possible... the lines... they're always soo long.

Yeah it took me awhile to actually start driving though. I wasn't confident about it, I thought I would suck. I did at first, but after a few more drives I became pretty good. I love driving and I try to drive as much as I can. I just hate paying for gas.

Re: Driving

I got a permit in Texas, so I just had to finish the class. For the licence I just have to wait till August 5, when I turn sixteen!

Re: Driving

I am the proud holder of an open liscence (Not that I can use it as mum won't let me drive the car).
In Australia, well Queensland anyway you have to do your driving lessons in your own time and then have to pass a partical test with an examiner in the passenger seat. If you pass you then get you Provisonal lisence (i.e. legal blood achol limit 0.00 rather then the usual 0.05). You then what three years and get your opens. And you have to be sixteen and a half to get your learns permit and pass a written test in the first place.

Re: Driving

I've had my license for almost two years now. Fortunately I was clever enough to sell my car when I joined the army, thinking I would be away for a year (talk about miscalculation), so I've been carless for the past six months or so.

Over the summer I'm hoping that I've been able to save together enough money to buy me a new car (not new as in NEW, but new as in another) - Driving is great, and I -hate- taking the bus, so I am in dire need of a car :p

Re: Driving

I have a driving licence for 7 years but I manage to earn enough money to by a new car last. All this time I was driving my father's car.
Anyway I love to drive than walking or taking public means of tranport.
What I really hate is parking. You must search a lot to find a place to stop.Especially in Athens
