Animal Crossing Zelda reference

In Animal Crossing, you can fish to earn money, and often enough, you catch a rather familiar species...

you don't suppose it's Hylian, do you?
I love Nintendo for this, I really do. All the little Super Mario references in OoT, the paintings of our favorite Italian plumber in aLttP. They always manage to pull off inter-game references so well. By contrast, Square just pissed me off. A friend notified me that there was a ShinRa reference in FFX-2.

-_-

My hatred of that game multiplied tenfold as soon as he finished telling me.

Any thoughts on other game references?

Re: Animal Crossing Zelda reference

The game that reigns supreme for references to other things is World of Warcraft. When fishing, you can catch all sorts of things including an item called "The One Ring." If you go into the dead city jail, there is a torturer who keeps turning this one guy into a sheep and then "poking it until it explodes," a reference to the other Warcrafts. The list goes on.

But yes, Nintendo is very good at doing those. I remember thinking of some other one earlier, but I forget now.

Re: Animal Crossing Zelda reference

Your title is a little misleading. Now I know that you are talking about the Zelda reference in Animal Crossing, but that's not what your thread is about, is it (if it is, then we already have a thread that talks about Zelda Cameos/References in other video games called Cameos)?. Your thread should be called something like "Video game references" and it should be placed in General Gaming, not in Entertainment. I'd change the title and move the thread myself, but my rippling Mod muscles can't do that kinda work

Re: Animal Crossing Zelda reference

Moved to General Gaming.

no games with references to others really comes to mind. I remember reading that in the first Metal Gear Solid, if you had another Konami game's (I forget which) save data on your memory card, this Psycho Mantis guy would know it when you encountered him in the game. I dunno, I haven't played it, but that'd be a bit surprising to see that happen without knowing that little detail of the game. =P

When you click on a unit in Warcraft 3, he/she/it usually starts saying some pretty funny stuff. And many of those lines are references to other games, movies, songs etc.

"This... is... my... boomstick!"

"Me so horned, me hurt you long time!"

"This warhammer cost 40k, heh heh."

"Click me, baby, one more time!"

"Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's me."

"I see undead people."

"My favourite colour is blue. NO! YELLOW!"

...And dozens of others.

Re: Animal Crossing Zelda reference

It happens in MGS Twin Snakes as well. Psycho Mantis reads your MU; "I see you like adventure, you play The Legend of Zelda do you?" and stuff like that.

Re: Animal Crossing Zelda reference

Animal crossing is jam-packed full of references. Off the top of my head, I can remember that Gulliver claims to have girlfriends in Toad Town and Hyrule, and that you can get a Mario statue, Luigi statue, Arwing, and Master Sword to decorate your house.

Ah! That's so cool! I bet they're fairly time-consuming to get though =/

And as to the whole thread moving thing, I'm sorry! I'm a mere deku scrub after all.... :embrsd:

Re: Animal Crossing Zelda reference

eh, alot of developers namely capcom, Konami and nintendo do all kinds of weird cameos like that.

F-Zero is full of cameos and references to. The idea for Falco came from Captain Falcon. Mr. EAD is an obvious pun of mario. (ok, F-zero has all kinds of cameos in it. To many to mention, really.)

Keaton from MM looked alot like a combination of Pikachu and Ninetails.

the boss Gohdan in WW was basically the stafox villian Andross made to work in the Zelda gameplay.

Also, Halmoroc king fought like a watered down version of Meta Ridley from Metroid Prime.

I'm certain many of you know of the Mario references in Zelda and vice versa, so I won't mention them.

Onto Konami.

Zone Of The Enders has had countless (very awesome) Gradius cameos.

In the card game Yu-Gi-Oh, the card "Gradius" and "Gradius option" are available. The card Gradius is the Vic Viper (The ship from well...gradius) and the card Gradius option is one of the Vic Vipers multiples.

In MGS3, a model of the Jehuty from Z.O.E. is seen in one room.

In MGS2, the metal gear RAY looks alot like a Jehuty.

Raidan from MGS2 was an obvious reference to Alucard from Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night. (1. He looked just like him. 2. Like Alucard, he was the main villians son. 3. Both of them took action and became playable after one hero went missing. )

Talking Stuff.

I've kinda got one. On banjo Tooie you don't here about where tooty is at all its not even mentioned, she just completely dissapears from banjo tooie. But then in a later world ( I can't remember the name but its the one suspended in the air where you turn into a bee) theres a room where theres boxes piled up in the corner. On one of the boxes theres a poster saying 'MISSING' and a picture of tooty underneath it. Thats the only sighn of her exisistance... and on Banjo Kazooie the whole games about saving her!

Plus I learnt from someone on ZU that the bombchu on Zelda is like Pikachu, because its shaped like a mouse, and 'chu' means mouse and 'pika' means electric. So theres the 'electric mouse' (pikachu) and the 'bomb mouse' (bombchu)

MWA HA HA HA!

Actually, chu is a sort of sound effect. In Japan it means either the sound of a kiss, or the squeak a mouse makes. Smae thing with "pika", it's the sound of electricity crackling. I'm not certain, but I think "Rai" might be the sound of lightning striking.... ^^;;; I'm probably wrong though.

Re: Animal Crossing Zelda reference

No, I'm fairly sure 'chu' means mouse. Hence, Pikachu (electric mouse), Raichu (thunder mouse, because Rai definitely means thunder), and Bombchu (bomb mouse). I'm sure everyone knows about the pictures in Hyrule Castle, so moving right along...

Chain Chomps in ALttP, LA and FSA
Most of the Mario enemies in LA
The Mario picture in Kakariko Village in ALttP

Don't worry, I'll find more.

Hey, don't forget the Mario and Luigi look-a-likes in OoT and Majora's mask. Don't know what I talk about? Look in Lon Lon Ranch for your answer.
Also there are things in Starcraft that are reference to Warcraft. But I don't feel like trying to remember all them.
