How to kill a sport

Alright boys and girls... why do you do sports? Performance, skill, developpement and of course the main reason to have fun... But tonight I just saw a sport die, or at least for me and my friend. I may be overreacting but I dont think so, I saw my fair share of corrupt Refs and dirty plays but tonight was just the pinnacle.

Tonight my hockey team lost 3-0, to be honest I couldnt care less. I lost some games in my career and I can get over it... But tonight not only did we lose but my best friend almost died... A crazy player of the other team took his stick and swung after my friend catching him right on the wind tunnel, breaking it. He was spitting blood and he was rushed to the hospital.

It could have been avoided, that psycho player was kicked out of the game all 4 times we played them. How can a person like that be allowed to play after a show like that, he only had one game suspention.

The worst is that my friend is suspended for 4 games for receiving a stick in his throat... The ref who was there had reffed us many times before and everytime screwed us so bad that we protested for him not to be able to ref us again... Every time he loses control of the game and there's a fight. And then he just kinda takes a power trip and kick random peoples out... He gives random penalties that dont make sens and acts like hes god... Because of him and what the sport became its just not fun putting skates on anymore. Sports (hockey in perticular) are dying, because of money, corruption and power trips... Look at the hockey lockout its not right...

Whatever I maybe am overreacting but one thing is certain im not playing hockey in that division ever again. Its just not fun anymore.

one of my friends almost died this year in one of our football games...kickoff return he got hit in the head and the *bladder* (air cusion) wasnt filled up and well he actually died for 3 minutes on the field and hes not even close to being the same...it was against our main rival too and after that happened...me and the rest of the team just couldnt play the rest of the game...but we had too...

Yea that would be pretty rough but its something you sorta expect out of a football game I used to play football and I was aware of things like that... But were talking about a crazy guy who swings at another random guy even if they are winning 3-0 its dirty...

I'm surprised the guy doing the swinging got away with his life. If someone did that to one of my team mates, I don't know a single guy in my school who would not try to get immediate revenge in a similar manner.

Probably just shows that I'm no better, but... that sort of thing makes me so mad.


How is your friend? Is he going to be all right?

I don't play any team sports, I just skateboard. The closest thing of something like that happening would be... me getting a concussion. o.o

Yeah... I got a concussion and got knocked out for a few seconds, then got up and walked around the skatepark in a daze. Good thing they force you to wear helmets at the skatepark or I may not be here right now. Considering I got a concussion WITH a helmet on. o.o

Sports have become corrupt. Like American athletes using growth hormones at the olympics. Its all about money and power no. I'm glad I'm not into sports. I'm above it all. Hope your friend makes it through with nothing but a scar. He's going to have a big one on his neck for the rest of his life. Whatever id happen to the psycho player anyways?

how to kill a sport? good ol' money will do the trick. the nhl is a good example of that.
once the sport isn't about playing the sport anymore, it'll die.

My friend is alright now... He still decided to quit minor hockey, so did I. I would probably end up doing something stupid to get revenge or something... The guy that swung got 2 games suspension for "Slashing" and my friend got 5 games for "instigating a fight"

oh and L-O-S, if I wasnt held back I wouldnt play hockey anymore and not by choice...

Yeah, that's really crappy. That ref sounds like a real dick. I would go with you guys and quit, because entertainment isn't worth your entire life.

I used to play in a basketball league, it was fair the people got along, and it was fun. Sure a lot of the refs sucked, but it was still fun, no fighting, some arguing, and that was at the worst.
