Re: Godzilla vs. King Ghidrah; the Three Headed Monster

Okay then, here's what I just finished. It's the beginning to chapter two, and my favorite parts so far. It takes place on a made-up island *at least I think it's made up* called Kunishiroshima. It's the island where most of the old Kaiju movie "Daikaiju Baran" and "Varan the Unbelievable" takes place. The people of the island aren't like indian natives, but they have no advanced technoloy, and are almost in a medieval type of lifestyle, though, more jungle-ish....

Just read and enjoy, and I've explained most of the stuff on Varan so anyone not familiar with the film or Kaiju won't be confused

Chapter 2- The Mighty Obake; A Sleeping Deity
November 8th, 10:02 A.M.
Kunishiroshima Island

The island of Kunishiroshima was a beautiful place. The terrain mostly jungle, but teeming with beautiful tropical trees and plants, and variety of exotic animals. Streams and rivers ran through it, containing wondrous water, and stone towers of rock rose high into the air near the middle-region of the island. Upon this area, was but one settlement of people. It was a new home for the residents of the island, one that they re-built themselves after the terrible Kaiju Varan destroyed it in his wake back in 1958. This new town was named Irjiro, in honor of the high priest that was the elder of the village before he was killed by Varan.

It was custom that all men grow to study deeply on the religion, culture, and myths of the island and beliefs. For when whatever male would be the oldest living in the village, they would be dubbed the High Priest, as well as the elder, and attain the task of leading the village in their religion and life. Right now the Elder was named Akiro, and even at age seventy-nine, he had the willpower and mental and emotional might of any young man.

The village was peaceful, and the population was growing. It was far bigger than the former village back many years ago, and the resources were also growing in numbers. They had surpluses, and more and more men and women were becoming artisans, as well as scholars, farmers, and even doctors. Truly, for the sole municipality of the island, it was better than any other could be.

Inside her house, the young woman named Akari wore a ragged brown apron, one stained in several spots and with a different array of colors. Her jet hair tied in a ponytail, and a very thin pair of gloves on her hands, she continued to finish up the work she was best at; chemistry.

While she excelled at mainly potions and tonics, she was also skilled in working with herbs and powders, which also gave her the talent of being a great medicine and brew maker. Right now, early in the morning as the rest of the village began to awake, she grounded a small amount of hyssop, her mortar crushing and pressing and turning upon the small leaves continuously as they began to break and shatter. She had been doing this now for nearly five minutes, and was nearly done. While it took close to ten minutes for the normal villager to do this, with years of experience on her side, Akari could finish it half the time, knowing the perfect pattern for the crushing.

When she was done, she set down the wooden club-like utensil, and grabbed the plate that had the milled-hyssop. Walking over to the end of the table she took a small spherical flask, and carefully dipped it in a bowl of a flaxen liquid. Once it was filled about eighty-percent of the way, she very vigilantly poured the minced herb into the flask, until there was not one tiny folio of it on the platter. Taking the cap, she tightly closed it, and then set it back on the table.

“Finally done” she said quietly to herself as she wiped her forehead dry, a smile of relief on her pretty face. She then went over to the sink, and after taking off her gloves, soaked her hands in the cool water. As she doused her palms with lemon-balm, she heard a knock on her door, and simply continued to focus on cleaning her hands. “Come in” Akari said though, and then washed off the balm. The door opened, and together a young teenaged girl and a boy seemingly the age of six or so walked in. The girl was dressed pretty much the same as Akari; a white sarong and a long-sleeve shirt, except hers was blue, unlike Akari’s red, while the boy had a vermilion short-sleeve shirt, and black shorts.

“Akari, have you seen the Elder anywhere?” the girl asked, appearing a bit nervous. The young woman then rinsed off the purple soap she had on her hands, and turning around dried off.

“No Takia, I haven’t, I’ve been busy all morning with that new remedy I’ve been working on” Akari answered. Takia looked a bit disappointed.

“Oh, sorry…” she replied, looking away in what seemed to be worry. Akari became curious.

“Why do you ask?” she inquired. Before she could turn her head and answer, the young boy spoke first.

“We went to see him this morning to ask him about the next season ceremony, but he wasn’t there” the child named Tayo explained.

“Yeah, and we asked a few other villagers, but they didn’t know either” Takia added then. Akari’s eyes narrowed with suspicion.

“Hmm, that’s odd. I wonder why that is?” she said, and then coming to a realization, which brought an expression of inquisitiveness upon the two children, “Oh yes now I remember! I talked to him last night, and he said something about going to the Sea Shrine” Takai’s eyes widened slightly.

“The Sea Shrine? Why would he go there?” she asked. The young woman shrugged.

“I don’t know completely to tell ya the truth, I think something about some prayers. But would you guys like to go see him?” Akari said back. Tayo nodded.

“Yeah, lets go!” he replied excitedly. Akari smiled at the boy as she then took her apron off.

“Okay, let’s get goin’ then” the young woman stated.

* * *

Some fifteen or twenty minutes later, the three were walking down one of the dirt paths altogether. The scenery was gorgeous as they began to reach the cliffs above the sea. Here the jungles gave home to the most scenic of exotic birds, ones with hues and tones of their feathers that were so striking that it looked like someone had painted the colors onto them. Their calls, squawks, cries and chirps sounded like magic, creating an orchestra of the bird-tongue that was as soothing and smooth as the melodies played by any instrument.

Before long the jungles ended, and they can to a grassy area where the reeds grew high and the bushes were thick. Over the edge of the natural walls was the blue sea, ebbing and moving as the wind blew and the currents traveled to shore. The sun reflecting off the surface, it warmed the waters, and created a glimmering shine that was gentle upon the eyes, so one could not help but stare at its beauty.

But now, the three residents of the island were not focused on the waters, but instead the small wooden structure up ahead, probably not fifteen meters from the edge of the cliffs. Its façade was embellished by wooden chimes, as well as a few bronze statues of various mystical, mythical, and spiritual figures. The young woman, the young girl, and the young boy all came up to the shrine, and taking their sandals off entered the Holy House.

Inside, the floor was a shiny wood linoleum, and the walls were simply tree-wood. At the other side was a petite altar, flanked to the sides by two blazing torches. Upon it was a golden statue, of a reptilian-like monster, with a grinning face that looked like a devil’s. Horns and spines were all about his body, adding to the terrible look of him and the intimidation it emitted. This was the Obake, the legendary monster that lived on the island, Varan; the Unbelievable. It was the beast that awoke in 1958 due to military tests, and the deity to the island. After it escaped to Oneda airport and completely ravaged it, it was driven off by exploding bombs in his stomach, and retreated back to the island, where it supposedly settled right below the cliffs where the shrine was, sleeping in an underwater cave.

Before the statue was the Village Elder and High Priest, garbed by a simple white robe, but with several indigo designs and symbols. About his neck was a crimson necklace with several odd shapes attached to it, made and carved by wood. He knelt down, golden staff to his side, his head bowed, eyes closed and hands together as he remained in deep meditation. The three villagers also knelt down, staring at him in curiosity and in silence for many moments.

“Sh-should we disturb him?” Takia whispered as she leaned over at Akari. The young woman shook her head.

“No, it would be a great offense, let’s just go back to the village” she replied, in a nearly inaudible tone, just as the girl spoke in. Just as she began to get up, the Village Elder suddenly released his hands from one another, and lifted up his head as his eyes opened.

“Do not leave Akari” he said. The young woman was slightly taken aback, and as she kneeled down began to become a bit nervous.

“Elder, please forgive the disruption” she apologized. The High Priest turned around, still on his knees, a gentle smile on his face.

“Nonsense, I’m finished anyways” the older man said. Akari felt like giving a sigh of relief, but chose to instead conceal it.

“Village Elder, can I ask why you came here today? And without telling anyone but Akari?” Takia asked, almost in a blurt. For a moment, Akari felt a bit worried from the question, apprehensive of that it might affront the High Priest. Instead, his face only flattened with a serious look, and turned to look back at the statue of Varan.

“I have sensed mysterious omens lately. And I’ve seen strange visions in my dreams. I believe they could be severe, especially in that both were concerned with the Obake” he explained. Tayo’s innocent interest got the better of him.

“What were they Elder? Is Varan going to attack more people?” the little boy inquired. For a few seconds, the High Priest was silence, and soon he gave a grim nod.

“Yes” The three all looked afraid now, at least Tayo and Takia, while Akari seemed more stern on the matter. The Elder then looked at the golden sculpture. “I have foreseen, that the Obake will be awakened, once more by mankind, and strike back against their ignorance. Though, only to then fight against a terror of three, for us” the High Priest went on. Akari’s eyes almost widened in surprise.

“You mean, he’s going to protect us?” the young woman queried. He looked over at her.

“No. Not just for us, but all of the land…” the Elder corrected. Everyone’s eyes then focused upon the figure of the deadly monster. He looked so vile, so wicked, and so cruel. The Kaiju had slaughtered their village when he last walked the Earth, and killed dozens of people; men, women and children. Why on Earth would he attack once more, but defend for the world? How would he? Not one of the three knew, and Takia was hoping for answer.

“Elder, do you know anything else of this?” the young girl asked. The old man shook his head.

“Sadly no, this is all my eyes have seen far. Though I will attempt to gather more upon this” he answered. With that he then stood up, his long white beard wiggling a bit as he took hold of his golden staff. “Let us not worry of this anymore, instead, lets go back to the village and have something to eat, I will discuss this with the other priests later on” All three of them nodded, and stood back up to their feet as they began to exit the shrine. Putting on their sandals, they walked out onto the porch, and then back onto the path as they headed back to the village. As they walked Takia stayed ahead with the Village Elder, while Akari walked a bit behind them, contemplating over what she had just found out. Her train of thought was soon broken by a tug on her sarong, and she looked down to see Tayo, a fearful look on the boy’s face.

“Akari, are we gonna be safe when Varan wakes up?” he asked. While she truly had no idea whatsoever of what would occur, she decided to try and calm him down.

“You don’t have to worry about anything, I promise we’ll all be fine” she responded with a smile. Tayo’s eyes lit up, and a smile just as wide as the young woman’s stretched across his face. “Say, you want a ride back to the village?” she asked. Tayo kept his smile and nodded.

“Sure!” he answered excitedly. Akari then bent down to nearly match the small boy’s height.

“Okay then, get on” she said, her back facing him. With a short chortle of delight, Tayo jumped onto Akari, and wrapped his arms around her neck. Holding the boy’s legs above her arms, the young woman stood up and began to walk off, carrying the boy with her on her back. They walked off together, laughing in glee and amusement as the two both enjoyed the ‘ride’.
