Then the programs where gone!

I just noticed as I was browsing through my programs that all the programs under entertainment had randomly vanished, it just says (empty) I looked for them everywhere, not in the recycle bin either. So, I have lost programs like voice recorder, paint, real player, quicktime e.t.c

I dont think I have lost the programs as such, just the links to them have vanished without me touching them. So anyone know how I could get access these programs again? just the voice recorder and paint would be fine, the others I can just download...or if you could tell me what has happened, even better.

Re: Then the programs where gone!

Go to C:\ or whatever hard drive directory that you have installed, and go into a folder called "program files". Then find your installed softwares there. If they are not there, it can mean one of two things:

1. You got a trojan virus in your computer. Scan your computer immediately with updated virus definition.

2. Your hard drive(s) is/are having some problems. Send your computer to a store and have it checked out.

or (the least likely to happen)

3. You've installed something weird recently, and it's erasing your existing shortcuts.

Could it be that someone else went on your computer and accidentally erased the shortcuts? Like a sibling or parent? They may not even know they've done something wrong.

Re: Then the programs where gone!

Just do an automatice search for the programs ()_();

Oh, and Paint is usually in your Windows folder...that'd be a good place to start looking, manually.

Re: Then the programs where gone!

For Paint: C:\WINNT\system32\mspaint.exe
for Notepad: C:\WINNT\notepad.exe

As for the games, you should be able to find them by going to Add or Remove Programs, then clicking on Add/Remove Windows Components. From that point you should be able to find the entertainment folder. I can't remember which one exactly it is, but all you have to do is put a check mark by it. I could find it if I was at home, but alas I have to work today.
