I'm not sure if you're trying to say you want him to think for himself, or you would rather be the one to control his decisions and not his parents. Either way, he does need to start thinking for himself, not others. There's nothing wrong with still listening to your parents' advice at whatever age. I'm 24 and don't mind hearing out what my Dad has to say. But still, I wouldn't let him--or my partner--be the one to make all my decisions.
